Chapter 139: Chapter 139

"THERE’S a scarcity for Guides all over the world– especially Irregular Guides that the System nurtures to become the next Administrators."

Wonhee felt like she had heard that term before.

"I’m an Irregular. That’s probably why I was given attack skills as a Guide," Bitna explained. "The System wants to protect me, so it would release a scent similar to camellia flowers to let me know that a wild beast is in the vicinity."

So that meant a monster had entered Bitna’s supposedly safe haven.

Wonhee knew that it was an emergency, but her mind got stuck to one piece of information. "Bitna-ya, can a Guide release a scent like that to ask for help?"

"It’s not common knowledge among Guides, so I’m not sure," Bitna said, knitting her eyebrows. "Moreover, the scent of camellia that calls for help can’t be detected by Hunters. After all, most of the time, Hunters are more dangerous to Guides than monsters. So, as far as I know, only high-class Guides like us could pick up the camellia scent..." She trailed off, and then she looked at her with wide eyes. "Wonhee-ya, are you saying that you met a Guide that releases the scent of camellia flowers that only you could detect?"

"That’s exactly what happened, Bitna-ya."

"Aigoo. I really want to know more about that Guide, but I’m afraid we don’t have much time left to chat."

"We’re in danger, aren’t we?"

Bitna just nodded, and then she put a few slices of sashimi in her mouth, chewed them, and swallowed them hard before speaking. "Don’t worry, Wonhee-ya. The System sent a monster here on purpose."

"Because this place needs to be an active dungeon so that it would be possible for the System to send us straight to Korea."

"Oh. So that Yejun could come in and save us..."

"To save you, yes," Bitna corrected her while getting up. "The System is cheating by temporarily activating a dormant dungeon, but it can only do so for a short time. One of us has to stay here to "deactivate" this dungeon and turn it back to its dormant state before the System gets into trouble. Obviously, that would be my job."

"Wonhee-ya, don’t feel guilty," Bitna said firmly. "You know that the System isn’t showing favoritism towards you for free, don’t you?"

"Yes, I’m aware that there’s a catch."

"I don’t know what from, but I’m sure the System will use you to save the world soon."

Wonhee clenched her hands and nodded. "I have a feeling that’s the case."

"That’s why you shouldn’t feel guilty," Bitna said firmly. "Whether you like it or not, you’ll have to pay the price of being born under the Lucky Star soon. Just accept everything the System gives you and consider them as advanced payment."

That sounded pretty harsh.

[But it actually made me feel better.]

Wonhee was about to thank Bitna for the pep talk, but the sudden noise that the ocean made forced her to stop talking.

She then glanced at the ocean.

The waves were so big that she was scared they were gonna get hit by a tsunami.

But the thing that scared Wonhee more was the monster riding the big waves.

"Is that a dragon or a serpent?"

"It’s a Sea Serpent– a monster with the head of a dragon and the body of a snake, with a few fins," Bitna explained calmly while nodding. "Fortunately, it’s only a baby Sea Serpent."

Bitna called the monster a ’baby,’ but it wasn’t baby-sized.

The Sea Serpent was the size of an adult whale!

[And it looks scary...]

"It’s an S-Grade Monster," Bitna explained. The way she was staring blankly into the air suggested that she was reading the monster’s stats. "As long as we use a weapon or an attack that’s at least SS-Grade, then it will pierce through the Sea Monster’s scales."

"An S-Grade Monster?" Wonhee asked, gulping hard. "T-Then this dungeon would show up as an S-Grade Crack, right?"

Bitna stopped talking and stared blankly into the air again.

[The System probably sent her a new message.]

"Wonhee-ya, according to the System, Hwang Yejun is with Hamin," Bitna said, grinning mischievously. "Should we give them a call now?"

"Yes, please," Wonhee said, nodding. "I hope Yejun hasn’t snapped yet."

"TAKE THE call, Hyung!" Yejun urged Hamin impatiently. "It must be from Chu Wonhee!"

The talking orange wouldn’t send Yejun to Hamin for nothing.

[If I remember correctly, Cyborg Hyung is connected to that broccoli.]

And there was also the thing that the talking orange said to Yejun earlier.

["Before the System shut down earlier, it sent Chu Wonhee to her . We don’t know if we succeeded, though. But we’ll let you know as soon as the System’s maintenance is complete."]

The System was down, but it didn’t affect the Awakened People all over the world.

But, apparently, Wonhee and the Status Windows were also shut down when the System was almost hacked.

Hence, they couldn’t tell if Wonhee was sent to the broccoli safely.

"This is my Status Window," Hamin deadpanned. "And that cabbage kid is the Virtual Friend I got as a reward during my first big mission a few years ago."

"Don’t all Awakened People have a Virtual Friend that assists them during their missions?"

"Hyung, you’re a part of the First Generation of Hunters. Why aren’t you aware that having a Virtual Friend isn’t common when you’ve been a Hunter from the beginning?"

"Well, I don’t talk to other people about the System."

Hamin gave Yejun a dire stare. "You should know, Hwang Yejun."

"I once asked you and the other Big 4 members about the existence of L-Grade skills, and the four of you almost cut off my tongue. That’s why I thought it was taboo to talk about the System and the skills we get from it."

[This hyung can’t read and pick up on social cues...]

"Hyung, you asked about our L-Grade skills in front of World Rankers who came to Korea to pick a fight with the Big 4," Yejun reminded Hamin. "That wasn’t the right time to talk about our L-Grade skills. Of course, we’d shut you up."

Yejun could only sigh and shake his head at Hamin’s obliviousness, then he quickly went back to their topic. "Hyung, that Virtual Friend of yours is one of the System’s very few Admin. Apparently, only you and Wonhee have a personal Admin here in Korea."

To be honest, Yejun already figured out that Wonhee’s , aka the broccoli, was Hamin’s personal Administrator.

But it was none of his business, so he didn’t mention it.

[And I have a feeling that if I bring it up, Cyborg Hyung will only ask more questions.]

Yejun didn’t have time for that.

"If Chu Wonhee has the means to call from wherever she is right now, what makes you think she’d call me instead of you?" Hamin asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice. "And how did Chu Wonhee manage to get a hold of my Virtual Friend?"

[He’s already asking so many questions.]

"Hyung, I also don’t know what exactly is happening. I’m just following the System and my gut feeling," Yejun said impatiently. He was lying, of course. Explaining would take too long, so he just lied. "Look, Hyung. I’m going to die without Wonhee. Please help me."

[I even said ’please.’]

Yejun was that desperate, and he made sure he looked pitiful when Hamin looked at him as if he was calculating his next move.

[I really can’t tell what’s on this Hyung’s mind most of the time...]

But, fortunately, Hamin pressed something into the air.

[Must be the button in his Status Window.]

"This is Hunter Hamin of the Fall Guild," Hamin said indifferently. "Who am I speaking to?"

<"Hamin-ssi, it’s me– Chu Wonhee.">

"Wonhee-ya!" Yejun said, relieved. "Are you alright? Please tell me you’re fine and not hurt anywhere."

<"Yejun-ah, thank you for worrying about me. But you should worry more about you and the safety of the people around you.">

<"I don’t know where you and Hamin-ssi are at the moment, but the System informed me that an S-Grade Crack will burst open above you in a minute.">

Hamin, who always had a poker face on, looked shocked.

Yejun, on the other hand, was relieved. "You’re inside that Crack, I suppose?"

<"Yes, the System will send me there in a minute. I’m sorry to ask this, but can you come and pick me up? We can’t come out on our own...">

"Chu Wonhee, you’re not alone?" Hamin asked curiously. "Who are you with?"

Yejun hoped that Wonhee wouldn’t answer Hamin’s question because it would only lead to more questions.

But it was only because the line got cut off.

Yejun didn’t have time to worry about the line getting cut off because he felt the shift in the air. "Hyung, I’ll pay for the windows later."

Hamin looked at him, confused. "What?"

Instead of answering verbally, Yejun just ran towards the floor-to-ceiling window of Hamin’s residence.

He covered his entire body with his Mana, hence breaking the glass walls easily.

Thanks to that, he didn’t get hurt despite the glasses breaking into tiny pieces. Discover more novels at novelꞁire.net

Of course, Yejun didn’t fall to his death.

His flight skill allowed him to stay suspended in the air while waiting for the Crack to burst open.

The Crack appeared at the same time all the Fall Guild’s alarms went off after it detected the dungeon break a second later.

The Crack that appeared this time was a shipwreck afloat, scaring the hell out of everyone who saw it burst open in real-time.

That was when Yejun’s Status Window popped up.

["HURRY UP AND SAVE GUIDE CHU WONHEE, YOU STUPID HUNTER HWANG YEJUN!"]

"Shut up, talking orange," Yejun said, scoffing, while flying towards the Crack. The gloomy-looking ship had a long crack on the deck, so it must be the door that led to the dungeon. "I’m gonna save my Wonhee."

WONHEE gasped when the sky suddenly split open.

Like a paper getting torn in two.

And then it happened.

It was like a meteor shower, except the ones pouring from the sky were beautiful ice arrows and not meteorites.

All the ice arrows only had one target– the Sea Serpent.

Wonhee smiled when she saw Hwang Yejun fall from the sky– his beautiful blue-gray hair dancing with the wind, his red eyes glowing menacingly. He looked cold because of the blank look on his face, but his aloof side was also pretty hot...

Wonhee realized that she already reached the point of no return.
