Chapter 127: Chapter 127
[WHY ISN’T he saying anything?]
Wonhee exchanged greetings with Hamin earlier.
And, now, the two of them were sitting across from each other in silence.
Hamin had a completely blank look on his face. Tʜe sourcᴇ of thɪs content ɪs novel-fire.ɴet
[It’s starting to get awkward...]
"Hamin-ssi, you wanted to talk to me?"
"President Kwon seems to be interested in Do Ahyeon."
"President Kwon approached me earlier," Hamin explained– eyes empty, voice monotonous, expression blank. "He asked me if he could buy Do Ahyeon’s contract from the Fall Guild."
Wonhee clenched her hands worriedly. "Why would President Kwon suddenly become interested in Ahyeonnie?"
"Every Hunter here could tell that Do Ahyeon has leveled up. But even if his level didn’t change, I’m sure President Kwon would still be greedy for a Hunter with an ability that could rival Hwang Frost’s ."
[President Kwon is really greedy.]
"What did you say to President Kwon then, Hamin-ssi?"
"I didn’t get the chance to respond because the Big 4 came," Hamin said. "But I’m sure President Kwon will come and pester me again."
"You’re not going to sell Ahyeonnie’s contract to President Kwon, are you?"
"What makes you think I won’t?"
Okay, that response actually made her nervous.
"Hamin-ssi, I thought you care about Ahyeonnie."
"What does it have to do with this? Even if I sell Ahyeon’s contract to APA, what’s wrong with it? It’s not like APA is an evil organization."
Most people respected APA as a branch of government.
[Because APA’s corruption hasn’t been exposed yet.]
"Hamin-ssi, I’m speaking as Ahyeonnie’s friend," Wonhee said carefully. "I assure you that Ahyeonnie wouldn’t want to work with APA. If he breaches his contract with the Fall Guild, then I’ll pay for the penalty fee."
Ahyeonnie still had two years left in his contract with the Fall Guild.
[Our Ahyeonnie trusts Hamin-ssi that he signed a seven-year contract with them.]
"Chu Wonhee, are you saying that you’ll buy Do Ahyeon’s contract?"
"What if I asked for more than a hundred billion won this time?"
"Are you trying to scam me, Hamin-ssi?"
"Well, I wonder if President Kwon would give me what I want if I offered Do Ahyeon’s contract to him."
[I see what Hamin-ssi is doing.]
"Hamin-ssi, do you want me to bid for Ahyeonnie’s contract?"
"I want full control of the Fall Guild’s Nom Nom Restaurant," Hamin said bluntly. "I believe President Kwon can help me make it happen because he’s close to SC Foods’ chairman. But, to be honest, I don’t completely trust him. So, I want to know if you can give me a better offer, Chu Wonhee. Isn’t your brother-in-law the younger brother of the SC Foods’ chairman?"
[He’s weighing his options.]
"Hamin-ssi, I don’t appreciate being pitted against President Kwon. And I don’t want to drag my brother-in-law into this."
Seon Chang-ho, Semi’s husband, was the illegitimate brother of the SC Foods’ chairman.
It was something that even the public knew about.
However, everyone also knew that Chang-ho still had some influence over SC Foods.
[It seems like Hamin-ssi wants me to use my brother-in-law’s connections.]
"This is just business as usual, Chu Wonhee. If you were willing to burn 100 billion won for an Octocagon as if it was just spare change for you, I’m sure you can spend more for Do Ahyeon."
Ah, that was her mistake.
[I flaunted my money carelessly.]
Do Ahyeon was a precious friend, and Wonhee wouldn’t mind spending a fortune to buy his contract.
However, she didn’t want to do what Hamin wanted.
[Because I’m upset with how he’s trying to negotiate with me.]
Fortunately, Wonhee remembered what Yejun taught her.
"Hamin-ssi, do you know someone named ’Bitna?’"
"That’s a pretty common name."
"It’s obviously not her natural hair color, but she’s a greenhead with adorable freckles on her face."
And that was when Wonhee got a reaction from the Fall Guild’s Guildmaster.
Hamin’s jaw clenched, his golden eyes glowing as if he was upset. "She’s still alive?"
Wonhee was horrified. "D-Do you want her dead, Hamin-ssi?"
"No, but I can’t see how a Civilian like her would have survived in a dungeon alone."
[Hamin-ssi doesn’t know that Bitna is an Awakened Person now?]
Wonhee remained calm outside, but she was celebrating inside.
[This was what Yejun meant when he said money isn’t the only thing I can use to make a deal with Hunters.]
"Where did you meet her, Chu Wonhee? Where is she now? How did she come out of the dungeon?"
"I don’t feel like talking, Hamin-ssi."
"Shouldn’t you get in my good graces first if you want to make me talk, Hamin-ssi?"
Hamin froze as if he was surprised, and then he sighed. "I see. Hwang Frost’s cheekiness has rubbed off on you."
"Yejun just taught me how to survive in this world."
"It’s not that I doubt your credibility, but I find it hard that she’s still alive after all this time," Hamin said. His voice was still as monotonous as ever, but there was a hint of desperation in there. "Chu Wonhee, give me proof that you’ve really met that kid. Describing her physical appearance doesn’t suffice."
Right, he had a point.
"’Bitna’ isn’t her real name," Wonhee said carefully. "She said it was a name given to her by a young Hunter. In exchange, she gave that Hunter a nickname and called him ’San.’ That Hunter is older than us, but she calls him a ’kid.’ And, oh, she has a nasty temper and curses like a sailor."
"That’s her, alright."
"You confirmed it by just that, Hamin-ssi?"
"That kid is the only person who’d call me a ’kid’ despite my build. And she didn’t hesitate to curse me out when we first met, even though I was a few years older than her."
"I’ll hand Do Ahyeon’s contract to you– no," Hamin said while shaking his head. "I’ll do anything and everything you want. Just please tell me where Bitna is."
Hamin’s usually blank face had an emotion on it now– and that was desperation.
[Now I’m curious about Hamin-ssi and Bitna’s story.]
"I understand, Hamin-ssi," Wonhee said, nodding. "Let’s make a contract first."
KWON JIWOONG chased after Hunter Hamin whom he was heading towards the exit, leaving the Blue House without even saying goodbye to him. "Hunter Hamin!"
Fortunately, the Fall Guild’s Guildmaster stopped and turned around to face him.
But before Jiwoong could say anything...
"I’m not selling Do Ahyeon’s contract to you, President Kwon," Hunter Hamin said monotonously. "Chu Wonhee already bought it from me."
[I know Chu Wonhee has more money than me, but...!]
"Won’t you regret this, Hunter Hamin?" Jiwoong threatened the Guildmaster. "The chairman of SC Foods has my back, and SC Foods owns the Fall Guild. You may be the Guildmaster, but you don’t own the guild. If the chairman hears that you sold Do Ahyeon’s contract to an outsider without consulting him–"
"APA or SC Foods can have the Fall Guild if you want," Hamin said casually. "I’ll just work for Chu Wonhee as her private chef."
Korea’s first Culinary Hunter– the young genius who saved the country from famine– would leave the Fall Guild to work as Chu Wonhee’s private chef?
[Where is his pride?]
"I’ll bring my entire staff with me if I leave the guild, of course," Hamin added. "Chu Wonhee has the money to hire us all anyway."
"Have you gone crazy, Hunter Hamin?!"
"President Kwon, it’s no longer APA or the Big 4 who rules the country."
Jiwoong was confused. "What..."
"It’s Chu Wonhee," Hunter Hamin said before he turned his back on her. "If I were you, I’d beg if I have to just to get in her good graces, President Kwon."
