Chapter 110: Chapter 110
"’KEEP your friends closer and your enemies closer.’"
Wonhee didn’t lose her calm exterior when Park Ruda said those sharp words after laughing out loud.
"Since our Wonhee loves idioms and fancy phrases, I’m sure you understand what I meant by that," Park Ruda said, extending his hand to her. "Keep an eye on me the way I keep an eye on you, Wonhee-ya. Isn’t it easier to do that now that we have an acting project together?"
[So, this is why Ruda Oppa forced me to attend this audition.]
"Oppa, thank you for giving me the opportunity to bring you down," Wonhee said, smiling as she shook Park Ruda’s hand politely. Of course, she had to manage her expression since there were people secretly watching them speak. "See you at the table read."
Wonhee was able to arrive at the A-LIST Entertainment’s building without a hitch.
But the reporters caught wind of her appearance there.
Hence, when she stepped out of the building, a huge group of reporters greeted her with their unending questions and unstoppable camera flashes.
[I should have asked to use the building’s secret exit.]
It was too late for regrets now.
Wonhee hugged Billie’s arm while Ahyeon and Lee Seodam made way for them by simply pushing the reporters without touching them.
Ahyeon and Lee Seodam were using their aura, but they were being careful about it.
"Unnie, you may return to the company first," Wonhee whispered to Billie, covering her mouth with her hand. "The Special Forces summoned me to their office, so I need to go there. Please let the CEO know that I’ll give her a call later."
She turned off her phone because many unknown numbers were calling her again.
If Soobin hadn’t contacted Ahyeon, she wouldn’t even know that the Special Forces (Cracks Division) summoned her.
"Alright, I got it," Billie whispered back. "Take care, Wony-ah."
Wonhee walked Billie to the company’s luxury van and made sure that her manager unnie made it safely inside. She then briefly greeted the young road manager who was in the driver’s seat. "Drive safely, Dan-ah."
"I will, Wony Noona," Dan answered cheerfully. "See you at the company later!"
Wonhee just smiled and nodded.
She was about to close the sliding door, but Lee Seodam beat her to it.
"Let’s get you to your car, Wonhee-ya," Seodam whispered, gently grabbing her by the elbow to guide her where to go. "I drove here, so I’ll just follow behind you. It must be uncomfortable for you, but President Kwon asked me to stay with you the entire day until the arrangements are finalized."
She vaguely recalled President Kwon Jiwoong telling her that they needed to have a contract signing to appoint Lee Seodam as her official APA bodyguard.
[My life revolves around signing contracts these days...]
"But I can just leave my car here and have someone from APA pick it up later," Lee Seodam said. "Do you mind if I join you in the car? It will make it easier for me to protect you if we’re together in the same place."
Before Wonhee could explain that her grandfather, the former South Korean President, was with her, the car that she brought took the spot where the company car was parked earlier.
And then the window to the driver’s seat rolled down.
Wonhee giggled when she saw her grandfather take a peek from the open window, wearing a pair of sunglasses.
[Where did Grandpa even get that?]
"My precious granddaughter, you’re as famous as ever," Grandpa Suk-yong said, laughing. "Hop in!"
Wonhee smiled and nodded. "Okay, Grandpa."
"GREETINGS, sir. I’m Hunter Lee Seodam from APA. President Kwon sent me here to serve as Miss Chu’s bodyguard."
Wonhee felt a bit awkward while watching Seodam introduce himself to her grandfather.
It was hectic earlier because of the reporters around, so she got in the car and told her ex-boyfriend to just follow them to the Special Forces (Cracks Division) Station.
[So, here we are now.]
Fortunately, the station was a safe place since press people weren’t allowed there without permission.
The guards ushered them to the reception room.
It looked like a common lounging area for an officetel. The place was neat and nice.
"Ah, so you’re here to protect my granddaughter. I’m relieved," Grandpa Suk-young said cheerfully. "I thought Ma Yong-deuk’s son already caught me. That young man is as annoying as his father." The latest_epɪ_sodes are on_the novel{f}ire.net
"Grandpa, you can’t say that about President Kwon in front of his employee," Wonhee scolded her grandfather. "And you’re being mean."
"Oh, is our Hee-ya upset? Grandpa is sorry."
"It’s okay, Grandpa. Just don’t be mean again."
"If that’s what our Hee-ya wants, then this grandpa will behave."
Wonhee then felt someone’s gaze on her.
And when she turned her head...
Their eyes met and she missed the timing to avoid her gaze.
[Why is Oppa looking at me the way he did when we first started dating...?]
It was like Seodam was seeing Wonhee for the first time all over again.
"Miss Chu, I apologize for making you wait... ah! Hunter Suk-yong-nim, you’re here."
Lee Jiho, the captain of the Special Forces (Cracks Division), bowed politely in front of Wonhee’s grandfather.
Wonhee smiled proudly.
[Grandpa is more famous than me.]
"MISS CHU, Hunter Yeon Soobin provided us with the CCTV footage of your house during the attack."
Wonhee asked Soobin to take care of the things that needed to be taken care of related to the attack, like cooperating with the authorities and calling her lawyers to compensate for the damages caused to the properties of the people living in the apartment complex.
[Now that I’ve calmed down, I just realized how reckless and irresponsible I was to leave my house just like that.]
"Miss Chu, Mr. Do, is this your first encounter with these people?" Captain Lee Jiho asked while pointing at the square-headed attackers. "Do you recognize them?"
Right now, Wonhee was in the conference room with Captain Lee Jiho.
[Only Ahyeon and I are here because Captain Lee only needs the statement of the people present during the attack.]
Graham was supposed to be there, but he had already entered Semi’s Isolated Laboratory.
[But Captain Lee said he already got Graham-ssi’s statement before he left with Unnie.]
"That was the first time I’ve seen them, Captain Lee," Wonhee said. "I haven’t heard about a group of square-headed villains even in the news before..."
It was the ever-serious Captain Lee Jiho. The captain even covered his face with the clipboard he was holding.
[Did I say something funny?]
"I apologize," Captain Lee Jiho said. When he put down the clipboard, his face was back to being stoic. "These ’square-headed villains’ that you encountered are actually a new group of rebels who call themselves ’Anti-System.’ Apparently, their goal is to punish the Awakened People favored by the System."
"This person," Captain Lee Jiho said, using the pointer to point at the square-headed gun-wielding villain in the paused video. To be precise, the captain was pointing at the weapon. "This is similar to the gun that the culprit used to shoot Guide Ahn Kisoo. The cameras near the Summer Guild didn’t catch the culprit’s face, but the cameras caught where they threw the gun that they used. Moreover, the outfit of the culprit is similar to the one who attacked you, Miss Chu. The culprit was also ’square-headed.’’
Wonhee didn’t want to admit this, but hearing that scared her a little.
[I’m being targeted by the bad guys because I’m favored by the System.]
"Miss Chu, we suspect that the Anti-System Extremists targeted Guide Ahn Kisoo because their real objective is to bring down the Big 4. After all, if the Big 4 members’ Guides lose their Guiding abilities, then it’s only a matter of time before the Big 4 members snap one by one," Captain Lee Jiho said in a serious tone. "However, their plan was foiled with your appearance, Miss Chu."
Ahyeon let out a soft gasp. "B-Because Wony Noona is an S-Class Guide who can guide the Big 4..."
Captain Lee Jiho nodded firmly. "That’s right," he said. And then he gave Wonhee a look of pity. "Miss Chu, I’m sorry to say this. But it seems like you’ve become the Anti-System Extremists’ number one target."
Wonhee smiled bitterly. "My life as the first S-Class Guide has truly begun."
Lee Seodam, who was waiting in the lounge area with Hunter Yeon Suk-yong, turned to the old man and asked politely: "What do you mean by that, sir?"
Hunter Yeon Suk-yong sipped his tea first before asking again: "How much do you need for you and your family to leave my precious granddaughter alone? Fifty billion won? One hundred billion won?" he asked, and then he put the cup down on the table. "Just name your price, boy."
[So, he knows that I’m Wonhee’s ex-boyfriend.]
Lee Seodam clenched his hands tight, feeling humiliated for the first time in a long while.
YOOL gasped when Song Moonho revealed the identity of the person who bought all his stuff that was sold online by his crazy fan. "Who bought my stuff again, Song Moonho-ssi?"
"An idol," Song Moonho said, smiling. "Maru the Man is his stage name."
So, he didn’t hear it wrong.
Yool covered his mouth with his hands. He may look calm outside, but he was screaming in all-caps in his head.
[Wony and Ahyeonnie will be so jealous!]
