Chapter 65: Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Both body and mind were exhausted; as soon as I reclined on the sofa, I fainted. My eyelids were heavy, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't open them. My whole body lacked strength, and even though my mind was somewhat alert, I couldn't do anything.

I had wanted to persist until bringing Rollo home, but that was impossible.

"You're exhausted, Flora. Lately, you've been looking much thinner," were the words I could clearly hear before losing consciousness. Enzo said something else afterward, but I couldn't make it out.

When I woke up, while my mental state had improved, my body ached and felt tired. The familiar bedroom appeared right in front of me. I gazed around in a daze, not knowing how long I had been asleep. The room remained shrouded in darkness.

"Rain?" I heard the sound of heavy rain outside, probably the reason I couldn't realize that it was now morning. As I was about to turn around to get out of bed, I discovered a strong arm from the person beside me wrapping around my waist.

Enzo was still asleep, holding me tightly even while sleeping, not willing to let go, regardless of how much I tried to release his grip. This action also woke Enzo up.

"So early in the morning, where do you want to go? Sleep a bit more." Enzo pulled me closer, his face nestled in the curve of my neck, breathing in the scent on my skin. This peculiar act made me embarrassed and I moved away.

"Let go... Why aren't you wearing clothes?" Earlier, because I had turned away from him, I hadn't noticed, but now I saw that he wasn't wearing clothes. His strong physique was fully exposed before me, with only the sheet covering his lower half.

I panicked, thinking that something had happened between us last night. Fortunately, when I looked down, I saw that I was still wearing my nightclothes. Enzo noticed my relief and spoke.

"Are you relieved that we didn't make love last night?" Enzo looked at me coldly, appearing quite disappointed.

I didn't say anything, just turned my face away, wanting to leave the bed. But once again, he stopped me. "Why don't you think that we made love last night and I helped you change as well? You're wearing new clothes. Did you think you changed by yourself?"

His uncertain words left me bewildered. I turned, pushing him away with force. We had been intimate many times, and that was normal since we were husband and wife before.

"No matter what it is, I don't want to hear it. Rollo is probably awake by now. I have to take him home." I pushed him away and got out of bed, not saying anything else, quickly leaving the room. Enzo didn't stop me this time.

Standing by the elegant black car, Taylor held an umbrella, shielding me and Rollo. I put Rollo in the car first, then glanced back at Min with a hint of reluctance.

"Mom... I want to come too..." Min reached out as if to step closer to me but was pulled back by Enzo. I looked at Enzo, slightly furrowing my brows, but he seemed unusually calm and composed.

Min looked at her father, then lowered her head without saying anything more. The sight of her looking sad and lost made my heart ache. I couldn't take Min with me, a strange feeling of confusion arose within me.

At that moment, I wondered if we would always be like this.

Before I got into the car, Enzo spoke, "Flora, you'll be back here soon. You belong to me, your life belongs to me. Even if you die, you won't escape from my grasp." Finishing his words, he smiled twistedly and menacingly, sending shivers down my spine.

Hearing those words made it hard for me to breathe. I quickly turned away to avoid his cold, knife-like gaze. I tried to calm myself; he often made threatening remarks, so I reminded myself not to care. But this was the first time I felt so scared to the point of breathlessness.

Rollo sat next to me, still looking at me. I gently stroked his head, not wanting to reveal my own fear. Rollo didn't ask questions like why Min didn't come along or when we could come back here.

Instead, he asked, "Mommy, what did Daddy mean by saying that just now?"

I shook my head and said, "It's nothing, don't care about it." Although I said that to dispel Rollo's curiosity, sweat was already forming on my forehead from Enzo's earlier words.

I sneakily glanced at Taylor and saw no unusual expression on her face, which brought a slight sense of relief.

"Madam, would you like to go to the hospital now?" Taylor suddenly asked, leaving me momentarily stunned, not knowing how to react.

Seeing my silence, she continued, "Isn't Madam's lover in there?"

"How do you know?" I furrowed my brows in question. I hadn't told anyone about Ron's accident and hospitalization, not even Enzo. Yet, Taylor was asking me about it, making me confused and cautious as I looked at her.

Taylor looked at me through the rearview mirror, her beautiful smile fading. "Don't give me that look, Madam. Of course, I need to know about your lover being in the hospital. Anything related to you, I'm well aware of, Madam. I'm well-versed in matters concerning you."

I raised an eyebrow, aware that Enzo had never intended to follow me, but it was understandable that he would know about Ron's hospitalization. "He's not my lover, and don't call me 'Madam' as I'm not the wife of your Boss," I spoke softly, genuinely wishing everyone would understand this and not further complicate matters with misunderstandings.

It's true that Ron had feelings for me, but at present, we were only at the level of close friends. Though others might see us as a couple, we hadn't reached that stage yet. As for Enzo, we had even said divorce. That's why I didn't want to be known as Enzo's wife.

Hearing this, the smile on Taylor's beautiful face vanished. She looked at me expressionlessly through the rearview mirror. It was the first time she had given me that icy look, but what I said was entirely true. So, despite her menacing stare, I remained unaffected.

Outside the hospital gate, Taylor helped me and Rollo cover ourselves.

"Thank you for bringing us here," I said to Taylor, though I didn't want to involve Enzo while Taylor was one of his close subordinates.

"Mommy, why are we at the hospital?" Rollo stood next to me, tugging at my clothes and asking.

Before leaving, Taylor said, "I'll be back to pick you up soon. Have a good time. See you." Her tone was gentle and pleasant, yet it made me uneasy. I felt there was an underlying meaning in her caring words, similar to what Enzo had said before.

I took Rollo to Ron's room. Before entering, to ease the little one's fear, I spoke up.

"Rol, Ron is having a regular health check-up right now, and he's sleeping. Don't make noise when you enter the room."

"What's a regular health check-up?" Rollo curiously asked. I knew he would ask that, so I had a response ready.

"You can think of it as a way for people not to get sick and to detect illnesses quickly. We often go to the hospital for regular check-ups. Everyone does it, but it's not always necessary to go to the hospital." I gently explained. As I finished my sentence, I felt a lump in my throat and remembered saying the same to Min when she had to go to the hospital.

At that time, I was so exhausted that I didn't have a moment to breathe freely.

Perhaps Rollo understood, as he didn't ask any further questions. When I entered the room, Ron was awake, sitting on the bed, looking surprised at me and Rollo.

"Why are you two... here?" Ron asked, his voice hoarse and tired.

Rollo happily ran over to Ron and hugged him. I saw that Ron was awake and still laughing and talking with Rollo.

"Fortunately, you're awake now. Last night, the doctor also said that you might wake up today or tomorrow. You really scared me to death," I said with a mix of joy and the need to hold back tears.

Due to Ron's strong impact and extensive injuries, his complexion was pale, so I refrained from letting him move too much and reminded Rollo not to be too noisy.

While Rollo played on his own, Ron said, "That night, I had an accident and felt something quite unusual."

I paused while peeling an apple and listened to him. "Unusual? What do you mean?"

Ron shook his head slightly and remained silent for a moment before looking at me with a piercing gaze. After a while, he finally spoke, "I'm not sure, but I just felt that the driver intentionally caused the accident. But that's just my guess. How did you find out about the accident?"

"A police officer called me. They found you while you were on your night shift. By the time I received the call, you had already been taken to the emergency room. The officer said they haven't caught the person responsible yet, but it should happen soon," I comforted Ron. I believed that with the help of the police, the culprit would be apprehended swiftly, but Ron shook his head.

"Huh?" I noticed that Ron's expression was very gloomy as if he was contemplating something deeply.

"I hope so too, but it won't be as simple as you think. If you were here with me that day... how about Rollo and Min at home?"

I understood what Ron was concerned about, and I didn't hide anything as I nodded and said, "When I received the call from the police officer, I quickly came here. In the morning, I got a call from Enzo. It seems that he came that morning to pick up Min and didn't find me at home, so he called me."

In reality, that was the case. Since Min couldn't stay with me forever, I thought that was the only reason he came to my house.

"Is it really that simple?" Ron raised an eyebrow and asked, both of us knowing that things wouldn't be straightforward.

"When I wasn't home, he took both Min and Rollo to his place. I went there last night, and this morning I brought Rollo here to visit you." I spoke but didn't mention that Enzo also knew about Ron's hospitalization.

The doctor said Ron's condition was improving, but it was still necessary to stay in the hospital for observation. Ron agreed with that decision.

"You don't need to worry about me. I'm better now. Even if I were out, I still wouldn't be able to return to work. The hospital will take care of me," Ron said.

Seeing Ron's improved emotion, I felt relieved. Throughout the entire previous day, I had felt out of my mind, thinking I wouldn't be able to make it to today.

I took Rollo back home, and my apartment remained unchanged, if not even tidier than before I left.

"Rollo, did anything happen with Enzo yesterday? Do you know why he came here?" I gently asked the little one, though only I realized I was trembling as I asked.
