Chapter 199: Chapter 199

Mr. Nicholas had been straining himself over the past few days and found it difficult to sleep each night. Only after the concubine made him a calming soup could he doze off.

This left him feeling tired in every evening.

Mr. Nicholas felt helpless. His cultivation level was low and he relied solely on Prince Henry’s rise to power to elevate his own position. Then, and only then, would his mental exertions cease to hurt him.

He massaged his temples, reviewed the day’s arrangements, and then prepared to rest.

He encountered the old blind beggar in the street on his way home, who was still playing the erhu.

With a crisis impending, Mr. Nicholas offered a silent prayer. Upon seeing the beggar, he suddenly felt a surge of kindness: "Give him two taels of silver" he commanded.

The attendants gave the silver to the beggar, dropping it into his worn bowl. The blind man bowed gratefully, and huskily thanked him for his generosity.

Leaving the street behind, Mr. Nicholas arrived home and went to rest while the concubine started to prepare the calming soup. After a while, he woke up suddenly from a dream. His concubine quickly asked, "Master, what’s wrong?".

Distraughtly touching his head, Mr. Nicholas said, "I’ve become so muddle-headed recently. I just remembered a task Prince Henry had entrusted to me that I forgot to carry out."

He hastily got up and rushed to his study. He wrote a long letter in a haste, then sealed it. Once dry, he headed into the backyard and threw it over the wall.

Afterwards, feeling lighter like a weight had lifted off his chest, he went back to bed and fell asleep immediately. He didn’t even acknowledge the concubine’s worried inquiries and quickly began to dream.

Outside of the wall, Owen Bertram caught the letter and passed it to Abner Lane.

The whole of the Horizon Bureau had a look of disbelief. Can it really be? Without jumping to conclusions, they need to see if this letter did contain the information they desperately needed.

Abner opened the envelope and quickly read it once before passing it to others. The knight leader, who took the letter first, found that Abner’s hand was shaking slightly, showing his excitement.

After finishing reading, they all fell silent. Their looks slowly turned to pity as they glanced at David.

David’s face turned beet red, and he gritted his teeth and whispered fiercely, "What are you looking at? A man’s promise is his bond! I said what I said, as long as his scheme succeeds and it saves the boss, I’d become his slave if I have to."

Another knight chimed in, "Just hope he doesn’t really hand you over to Nathan Lane."

As if struck by lightning, David stood there, open-mouthed, unable to speak.

The knight leader sighed, "True, you will be using this gesture often, better practice more."

Furious and embarrassed, David was about to respond but was stopped by Abner, "Enough! In these several places, let’s assign roles and launch the surprise attack now!"

Abner then handed the letter back to Owen, pointing at a place name, he said, "I can make the decision. If you want to replace it, rather than raiding Henry Mansion, you can go here, that’s fine."

Owen nodded slightly and said, "Thank you, sir, for your understanding."

Abner waved, "You should go now, be mindful of your safety with Nathan Lane. Next up... Darnell Manor will be in chaos!"

The letter detailed all of Prince Henry’s arrangements for the rebellion, including control of each army, all backers in the imperial court, and... every location of the treasuries.

Being familiar with investigation work, it was clear to Abner and the others that the contents were true.

The theory that Owen had previously proposed: using the Mind Control Sound track to plant commands into the subconscious, convincing Mr. Nicholas that he was obeying Prince Henry’s orders and that his actions would not harm Prince Henry, came as a great twist.

Abner and the others didn’t fully understand the explanation, they just wanted to try. David and the others were unwilling to make sacrifices for Abner. Abner felt that even if the attempt failed, it was not too late to risk everything in a last stand.

To their surprise, it turned out to be a success!

The Mind Control Sound that Owen got from his brother was a sonic weapon which could infiltrate the targets’ minds and manipulate them at will. Though the control strength was much weaker than the Spirit Seed.

However, Owen studied it closely and found that the effect of the Mind Control Sound was similar to hypnotism from his past life, but significantly more potent.

Thus, he began to design this scheme the first time he met Mr. Nicholas.

Exacting a confession from Mr.Nicholas, as Prince Henry’s key strategist, with lots of protection around him and several magical control methods, was undoubtedly a challenging task.

Only characters of Mr. Nicholas’s level were worthy for Prince Henry to spend heavily on these control methods.

But the hypnotic effect of the Mind Control Sound could generate an illusion directly in his mind: that this was Prince Henry’s command, thereby bypassing the "defence" set by these secrets methods.

Owen was able to think of this method instead of Abner and the others, solely because of his knowledge from his previous life and because his brother just happened to have the Mind Control Sound.

The Mechanical Dao soldiers had previously given the old blind street performer a Spirit Seed, so Owen was able to use the erhu in the hands of the old blind man to perform the Mind Control Sound on Mr. Nicholas.

Every evening, Mr. Nicholas would hear the sound of the erhu when he passed here on his way home.

After the first time Mr. Nicholas heard the erhu, he had a headache, and his subsequent fatigue were all results of the continuous reinforcement of the Mind Control Sound.

After this matter is over, Owen would secretly take back the Spirit Seed and someone would start to take care of the old blind man from then on, ensuring that he was well provided for for the rest of his life.

This was in repayment to the old blind man. After all, Mr. Nicholas was protected by strong cultivation practitioners. He was unfortunately being drawn into this because of the possibility that applying the Mind Control Sound could be detected.

If something went wrong, Owen would collect his soul and make suitable arrangements in the Ghost Zone.

Abner also very "thoughtfully" pointed out to him that Henry Mansion was probably empty by now. The really valuable place was one mentioned in Mr. Nicholas’s letter: Dragon Abyss.

This was Prince Henry’s most mysterious treasury. Not even Mr. Nicholas knew its exact location. It was completely controlled by Prince Henry. Those who went in and out of Dragon Abyss were all Prince Henry’s most loyal followers.

As Abner and others hurriedly left, Owen was somewhat worried: Relying on their own strength, a decapitation operation, there was a chance to capture Prince Henry. But a full-blown attack on Prince Henry’s forces....
