Chapter 177: Chapter 177
Little Ghost’s hand had just touched the iron plate when it was suddenly sucked in. After an unknown amount of time, it was released with a swoosh.
This time, Little Ghost’s body was noticeably more solid, with a more mature and calm demeanor. The previous timidity had disappeared.
It seemed to understand many things now. Lifting its hand again, it grabbed the iron plate which turned into a silvery light and flowed into its body. In an instant, Little Ghost manifested the appearance of a nine-eyed, eight-armed figure riding a white elephant!
The entire cold pond shook, and the corpses at the bottom swayed in all directions.
The surrounding area of the cold pond all the Yin-energy was absorbed into one of the ghost’s eyes.
Then everything returned to normal, and the manifestation disappeared. In the pond, only Little Ghost remained.
It floated out and hesitated in front of the mansion. It could see Slyvia sleeping through layers of obstacles, and its eyes were filled with reluctance.
Then it saw Nathan Lane holding a knife and guarding the door outside, and whispered, "Brother-in-law?"
Seemingly reassured, it turned around and floated away.
Little Ghost was Dave, Slyvia’s brother, who had hidden in the cold pond and not been turned into a ghost soldier.
The matter of fate is truly mysterious and unfathomable. Nathan Lane had carried the iron plate for more than a decade, always feeling it was a good thing but never had the opportunity to enter it with his soul.
In the end, this opportunity fell on Dave’s head; although it seemed a pity that Nathan Lane lost this opportunity, at the same time, he met his true fate, the River God - who was actually Owen Bertram.
As it was about to leave, Little Ghost heard a strange cawing sound. It looked up and saw a gigantic bird more than half a human’s height. The monster bird sat on the wall, combing its neck feathers with its sturdy claws, and tilted its head to observe Little Ghost.
The next day, Owen Bertram slept late unusually. Staggering out of the house, he had Gourd Elder on his mind.
Today he arrived late, and the Gourds were anxious.
After Owen Bertram finished his daily watering, he looked up: Elder Gourd had really matured, and was gently swaying, eager for Master to pick it.
Owen Bertram waved his hand to cut off the vine, and Elder Gourd fell into his hand, immediately shrinking even faster than Ivan, to the size of a pendant that could be directly hung around his neck.
Ivan was astonished: What a heavy plotter!
Master hangs you around his neck and me on his waist, so you will always look down on me?!
Elder Gourd knew he had lost the initiative, and with Ivan settled in at the Smith Clan, it could only cling tightly to Master’s thigh.
Don’t think just because you sneakily got ahead, Ivan, that I won’t come back. The relationship between River God and Master is very good. As long as I can please Master, you will always be my little brother!
Elder Gourd gently vibrated, requesting Master to refine it.
Owen Bertram held the little gourd and recalled Elder Gourd’s "divine powers." Something seemed unreal.
But this gourd has its own consciousness; this is a spirit!
It has divine powers; this is an innate magic treasure!
It might be much stronger than it seemed.
Owen Bertram released a spiritual flame and refined Elder Gourd. The refining process was painful for Elder Gourd - ordinary magic treasure spirits would not feel such pain when being refined, but Elder Gourd was different, maybe because it came from Burning Hillock.
After the refining, Elder Gourd could communicate directly with Master on a conscious level. Owen Bertram hadn’t refined Ivan before because it was prepared for Brother.
He never thought of Brother as his pet, but treated him like family.Boss immediately showed off his abilities before the Master: "Master, you can throw any magical instruments, talismans, or spiritual pills into me. I still have some abilities; these things can be absorbed in my stomach, allowing me to obtain corresponding powers."
Owen Bertram found it novel: "Can you obtain all the powers of these magical instruments?"
"No, I can only get a part of it, and it’s random and not under my control."
"Seems like a mixed bag." Even so, Owen had just obtained a batch of magical instruments recently and threw them all in.
When Brother needs to eat, it can be taken out then.
With the Mechanical Dao soldiers having taken away the Flying Shield and Five-toothed Flying Sword, Owen found himself with insufficient magical instruments on hand. Now with Gourd Elder, he had one more self-protective method.
It’s just that this treasure can only be thrown out to hit people, which was not a very elegant method.
Gourd Elder was looking forward to being hung around Owen’s neck, but Owen just shrank his hand and put it in his sleeve.
Then Owen checked on Brother, who had eaten the "Baby." It had been almost a day and a night, and Brother still hadn’t finished digesting it.
Brother looked very comfortable floating in Ivan’s pond, which made Owen feel relieved.
After taking care of the Bamboo Hat Woman tonight, he would turn his primary attention to the Mechanical Dao soldiers and personally supervise the Henry Case.
On the way back to the outpost, Owen met two military officers who had rushed over from Quinn Base. They saw Matthew and reported: "Lord Prescott, Cornelius Maxwell has arrived."
Another whispered: "He’s quite arrogant."
Matthew’s eyebrows furrowed but York Gordon had communicated with him that Cornelius Maxwell was the person their teacher wanted. He was unsure of the purpose behind the teacher’s instruction to bring in Cornelius Maxwell.
"I’ll go back and take a look. Ethereal Devin, you stay here; report it to Commander Bertram when he returns."
"Yes." Ethereal Devin agreed.
Matthew hurriedly returned to Quinn Base. While technically they were all Lord Prescott, Cornelius Maxwell should have been welcomed as a sign of camaraderie between colleagues. However, it was alright if they didn’t welcome him either.
Matthew traveled a long distance from the outpost back to the base, solely because Cornelius Maxwell’s arrival was ordered by the teacher.
At Quinn Base, Prescott Group hadn’t been completed yet...
Recently, Cornelius Maxwell felt triumphant; after obtaining the Divine Seal Pill, he finally broke through to the Third Great Boundary. For so many years, he felt that his experience was sufficient, and the only reason he hadn’t been promoted to the revered Lord title was his lack of realm mastery.
Now that he had made the breakthrough, and there happened to be an open position for a revered lord in Waves Prefecture, Cornelius Maxwell had been working connections and believed he had a high chance of securing the position.
This temporary mission to Jaafar County to escort additional resources for the Prescott Group at Quinn Base also had Cornelius Maxwell’s personal intent: since these valuables passed through his hands, shouldn’t some portion be his?
So, as soon as he arrived at Quinn Base, Cornelius Maxwell began to cause trouble. If Matthew knew better, he would take the initiative to share some benefits.
"It’s been so long, and even with the conscription of hundreds of laborers, a Prescott’s building is still not completed."
"What is the director of a Prescott building doing near the Riverside and not being stationed at his base?"
After Matthew returned, he saluted Cornelius Maxwell from a distance. Before he could say a word, Cornelius Maxwell had already coldly scolded: "Where’s the others? Where’s Commander Owen Bertram? Can’t he show some respect when an official is here?"
Although Cornelius Maxwell was still a Prescott, he believed everyone should have heard that he would soon be a revered lord. He scolded the entire Quinn Base Prescott Group with the tone of a superior, showing excessive arrogance.
If you all don’t flatter me now, you’ll miss the opportunity when I am promoted to a revered lord!
Matthew’s face cooled down, and his hands dropped: "Cornelius Maxwell, who do you think you are?"
Daring to expect their teacher to personally welcome you?!
