Chapter 1404: Chapter 1404

Owen Bertram looked serious. The presence of the little girl was quite telling: Customs City was seriously riddled with vulnerabilities. Even though the Demon Clan has retreated, they should still be cautious of potential spies lurking within the city.

Customs City, which was recently conquered by the Human Race, had yet to develop an Array specifically designed to screen the Demon Clan. Moreover, there are over hundreds of thousands of slaves living within Customs city, among whom are undoubtedly those who’ve pledged their undying loyalty to the Demon Clan. In a very short period of time, Owen Bertram managed to contemplate various strategies and decided to immediately order agents from the Horizon Bureau to enter the city. Counter-espionage operations needed to start without delay.

Another aspect was defense. During the retreat of the Demon Clan, it was the best opportunity for the Horizon Bureau to plant spies among them.

The Demon Clan possessed many techniques for mimicking humans, and the Horizon Bureau also had their share of methods to disguise themselves as the Demon Clan. Owen Bertram had once reviewed secret files pertaining to this, and was surprised to find that the most successful spies infiltrating the Nine Witch Demon Court all practiced a method known as the "Yan Crow Demon Body."

This method morphed their outward appearance into handsome demons, making them fit right in among the elite women of the Nine Witch Demon Court. Additionally, the superior skills of humans in certain aspects, unlike the crude and brutish demons, who only knew how to climb and be straightforward, made these assimilated human spies even more appealing to the demon-women.

"Your Highness, please leave immediately. I’m reluctant to ignite another battlefront, but you shouldn’t take advantage of our situation!" Owen Bertram had no desire to fight another war that would result in the complete destruction of Customs City. Moreover, even if it was Tire-7 Battle Law, it still held tactical intentions. There was simply no strategic or tactical payoff in fighting Princess Amelia.

The little princess jumped down from the city wall, put her hands behind her back and spoke seriously to Owen Bertram: "I came here to see my brother for a serious matter..." Owen Bertram felt a sudden chill running down his spine. As expected, he heard a howl from behind him. Verna dashed out, making a vicious face at the little princess, baring her tiny fangs: "Shameless!"

"He’s my brother! Who gave you the right to call him brother?"

"I won’t let you call him brother!"

Verna wielded her big spoon aggressively, still bearing the smell of food. As she swung it around, the aroma wafted here and there. The little princess was entranced, her pink little nose followed the spoon in earnest, as if it was her baton.

Owen Bertram immediately clarified his position on his sister’s behalf: "My sister doesn’t like you, so please leave."

The little divine princess licked her lips and said, "I have a legitimate business here. That old corpse you have isn’t any good to you, but I can buy a part of it."

Owen Bertram’s heart was filled with foreboding: "Will you use his demon body to practice the demonic arts?" The Demon Clan had many gruesome and evil practices, including refining their relatives’ bodies... Of course, in the values of the Demon Clan, this wasn’t considered evil. Each large clan had countless similar practices.

The divine princess straightened her face: "This is my business, and it has nothing to do with my brother."

Owen Bertram shook his head resolutely: "Not for sale."

Verna was quite pleased with this answer, shaking her head arrogantly at the little princess. The little princess just ignored the annoying stumbling stone in her path. She turned her attention to Owen Bertram: "Three Shell Coins for his Demon Heart." As she spoke, she took her hand from behind her back, revealing three Shell Coins on her palm.

Owen Bertram was tempted. Shell Coins were never too much. However, thinking about the possibility that the princess might use the Emperor’s Demon Heart to practice a special technique which would eventually be used against him, Owen Bertram refused firmly. He wasn’t about to shoot himself in the foot.

"Highness, please leave now."

The princess frowned: "You are getting a little greedy, brother."

"This is not about greed," Owen Bertram replied earnestly. "Using a clan member’s corpse to cultivate demonic arts may not be a taboo in Demon Clan, but we humans can never accept such despicable behavior. I cannot become an accomplice to such cruelty."

"Despicable? Cruel?" Princess Amelia giggled a tad crazily. Owen Bertram felt incongruous. A hint of coldness flickered in the little girl’s eyes."

The coldness disappeared as quickly as it came, and her eyes soon filled with affection once again. "You, step back. I need to whisper something to my brother."

With that, Verna was expelled by some invisible force. Owen Bertram and Princess Amelia were enclosed in a mini-world.

Verna found herself strangely distanced from the sight of her brother and the detestable girl, as though they were separated by mountains and rivers. Was she going to stand for that? She slammed into the mini-world head on: "Verna charges forth, attack!"

The little princess enclosed herself and Owen Bertram in her mini-world, ready to speak, when she suddenly felt an unusual force ramming into the mini-world.

The mini-world was incredibly sturdy, being the very root of her Tire-7 power, hence it didn’t shatter on impact. However, this odd force transferred onto the little princess herself through the mini-world, sending her flying out of it with a swift ’whoosh’!

The princess slammed into the yard wall, leaving behind a human-shaped dent and numerous fissures.

She shook herself free after a moment of surprise, glaring fiercely at Verna as she charged toward her: "You fat girl! Seems like you aren’t going to behave unless I give you a beating, huh?"
