Chapter 1394: Chapter 1394
Hugo remained silent and tense all the way until they were fifteen hundred miles away. Only then, certain that the Grand Emperor would not pursue them, did he allow himself to breathe a sigh of relief. Just then, Princess Amelia gifted him with a seemingly radiant smile, saying: "Only by running far enough can we clear our names completely. If I were him, I would have feigned pursuit, only to strike once we were out of reach of the Grand Emperor Palace."
A chill ran down General Hugo’s spine, followed by a frantic application of various protective measures. Then, he saw the Little Princess laughing so hard she could barely stand straight. Hugo frowned, wondering if rescuing the little princess was really the right decision. Despite her young age, there was something disturbingly gleeful about her...
"He is not me, so he wouldn’t come," Princess Amelia pulled out a small mirror and started fixing her makeup. "He’s too old and he only got one chance left, so he wouldn’t dare risk it."
She closed her little gold mirror and patted Hugo’s belly: "I owe you for saving me. Whatever you want to do, I will help you."
Her smile, however, quickly turned cold, "But how to help is up to me! I will not be dictated by anyone else in my lifetime!"
Hugo complained, "Your Highness has put me in an unfavorable position, the Grand Emperor hates me now!"
But the Little Princess seemed unfazed: "You’re Tire-7, and the old man is also at the same level. What do you have to fear?" Hugo impulsively asked, "You could have promoted to Tire-7 long ago, what is it that you’re afraid of, having to rely on me for assistance to dare to promote?"
As soon as Hugo left the Grand Emperor Palace, he had figured out something: Even as a Heavenly Vertical Genius, Princess Amelia could not simply declare a promotion and then immediately cross a Great Realm from Sixth to Tire-7. She had the power for long, but had been suppressing herself, clearly wary of the Grand Emperor.
All of a sudden, the Little Princess looked up, her eyes filled with an eerie intent that made even Hugo shudder. Instantly, her expression changed into a pure and innocent smile: "You can just ask me what you want to know. You’re my benefactor, so I will tell you. You don’t have to beat around the bush."
Hugo didn’t want to say more.
"The old man has long been at Tire-7. His control over the palace and even the Mausoleum through the Demon Array means that even if I become Tire-7, I won’t be his match there."
"The moment I promote to Tire-7, he will seize this body, and my demon soul will be completely erased! Everyone assumes that he keeps me by his side to protect me. Nobody knows that I’ve long seen through his plot. He covets my talent."
"After taking over my body, he could live for at least another five thousand years. Ha ha, with such a long time, he could perhaps even become a Demon Emperor again."
"His demon soul is far too powerful. It needs a Tire-7 body to withhold it. That’s why I’ve always been afraid to promote myself, so long as I didn’t, he would have to continue waiting."
"Unfortunately for him, I have long known his sinister intentions - just as I know that he deliberately killed my mother when I was two, leaving him as my only ’relative’ from then on. Ha ha."
Hugo understood then. The Little Princess had been waiting for an opportunity, and he had inadvertently delivered it. On adding the Little Princess’s promotion and his own capabilities, they would have two Tire-7s - much too great a risk for the aged Grand Emperor to manage.
He somewhat sympathized with the Little Princess, but a flash of madness lurking beneath her innocent facade dispelled his empathy first.
"I dare not instruct Your Highness, but I trust Your Highness will keep her word. You are not helping me, you’re helping the entire Demon Clan..." At this, Hugo cuts himself off. Would this little Highness care about the Demon Clan? No, she wouldn’t.
"I will help you deal with Owen Bertram," Princess Amelia seemed to be fond of patting Hugo’s belly. "Give me a token, else the fools at the front line won’t listen to me."
General Hugo was skeptical about giving away the token and causing trouble: "No need, I will accompany Your Highness instead." Princess Amelia’s face changed instantly: "Are you trying to instruct me?"
With a lengthy sigh, Hugo tossed her a token. Upon receiving the token, Princess Amelia immediately set off, throwing one last threatening line at Hugo before she left: "Don’t follow me!"
Having made up his mind, as soon as the Little Princess was out of sight, Hugo quickly contacted the soldiers at Customs City, explaining the situation: even though she possesses my token, she will only deal with Bertram; do not heed anything else she says.
After painstakingly arranging everything, General Hugo suddenly realized another problem: if Princess Amelia were indeed to defeat Owen Bertram, she would become the new leader of the Nine Witch Demon Court. This would instantly boost her prestige but given her nature, it was hard for him to convince himself that she would behave and not cause havoc.
Hugo, frustrated, scratched his bristly hair. He felt like he’d shot himself in the foot!
The Little Princess, humming a tune, was happily bouncing around before realising that she was lost. She had never been outside the Grand Emperor Palace and did not know the way to Customs City.
"I’ll ask for directions! I can speak, I’ll go ask!" she loosened her sensory range and detected a small town several miles away. Just as she entered the town, a group of children ran passed her with their candy figures in their hands, their faces filled with glee.
