Chapter 46: Chapter 46
"I need to know her reason. Is it bad for me to be asking while she hates my guts? Didn’t you see the manner she embarrassed me back there?” She was fucking pissed and I don’t blame the attitude any way.
Oceana has a way of provoking someone, determined in her act.
As far as she gets what she wants and doesn’t give a damn if she is causing a scene.
She has changed a lot and I kind of feel sorry for Emily.
No matter how powerful I am, when it concerns Oceana, I become such a pathetic Alpha and worship her feet, and try as hard as possible to keep my cool.
“Forget about it, Emily. She’s just a teenager who is getting to know you.’ I persuaded her.
“By insulting me, I don’t like her attitude.’ she argued and I could only sigh and sat down on the bed.
“I know you don’t. That’s why I want you to ignore her. Don’t make her get on your nerves, that’s the only way to move on with her or else you will regret it.’
She hissed in annoyance. “I don’t like the way she behaves with me and if care is not taken, I will be at her command and everyone will look down on me. I’ve had enough of the hatred and criticism from your fans for being your wife. I don’t want another from your sister.’ she went on and I knew what she was talking about.
During the time I got engaged to her, most female Alphas, Omegas, and Betas expressed their anger towards Emily for marrying me.
The clan spread rumours, and she faced nearly being stoned while we walked in public.
The disrespect, gossip, and insults she received, being an outsider, were enough to drive someone to suicide.
The people still respect and fear me, so she was in safe hands and no one will dare to hurt her under my watch.
They knew what I was capable of, and would burn down the ground if they tried such a thing in harming my wife.
The realms have this funny attitude of being at its pace, so any little slander was enough to ruin a wolf’s reputation in one night and that is also why I am protecting Oceana.
Damn the stubborn brat.
“Don’t worry about it, she will come around…”
“You really don’t have to let it go this time. She insulted me in my face. Ever since I had come to this palace, she had been nothing but trouble.”
Why was she this persistent in being stubborn? Just let this issue die down, I thought.
“I said, let it go.” I nearly shouted. “You are my wife. Everyone is watching you. Any single mistake, rumours you create, no one will ask what happened, all eyes will be on you. You are still new, an outsider around here, and you don’t know all the fucking damn rules yet, and you need the people on your side. With time you will adjust, understand what I’m talking about, but for now. Stay low and don’t let my parents think otherwise and begin having this sort of strange expression because of you. They cherish Oceana too. She is their only daughter, followed by Alex, my little brother. So, try to understand. Don’t take this too extreme, Emily, and make people talk. Forget about this. I understand how you feel, but don’t take it upon yourself. Let it go. Pretend it never happened. I will have a word with Oceana soon. Just calm down and put all your faith in me.”
“I don’t understand you, Gérard, are you thinking of me or the clan, and what the wolves will say, is your reputation more important than me? Everyone is seeing how she talks to me in public and before we know it, rumours will spread about how she disrespects me and you want me to just keep shut and watch the way she insults me.”
She is hurt by my words, I could tell that, but I can’t just stand by and let her and Oceana tear at each other for whatever reasons best known to them which I know but hate to admit it.
I don’t want to draw in some attentions to myself too, it’s best known we keep a low profile.
I got up from the bed, went close to her, and held her slender shoulders with both hands.
“Emily, I am worried about you and I want you to always know that. Remember our vows, I will always stick to them, I don’t want you getting hurt, stay away from Oceana for now, it’s for your own good and I’m not in support letting her talk to you in such a rude manner, let bygones be bygones, eventually she will get used to you but I will talk to her for you, listen to me.”
“Is there anything happening between you and Oceana?’ she blurted out with a straight face.
My heart skipped if there was food inside my mouth.
I would have choked.
I needed to avoid this question, pretend like I knew nothing of what she was talking about, but I was curious to what she was thinking about that made her think there was something between me and Oceana.
“What are you talking about?’ I softly asked.
“I’ve noticed the way she stares at me, in this sort of jealousy, envy and anger running through her veins and it’s like she doesn’t like me being married to you or maybe she hates me because I am an outsider.’
I hugged her and pressed kisses on her forehead, murmuring. “I love you.’ I struggled to say those words, and the guilt was killing me. “Everything will be fine.”
“Thank you so much, Gerard, I’m glad I got married to you and I’m still sorry for getting mad at you on that day at the hotel, even now, I just wanted to know if you truly love me or if that’s just your way of expressing yourself.”
I cupped her face. “You don’t have to bring that up. I forgot about it a long time ago. Just let it go, okay?’ I kissed her forehead and hugged her again, thinking of Oceana and Carmine, who is in big trouble, hiding his mate from the family and that takes me back to one question: How did father find out about Carmine’s mate?
After consoling Emily, kissing, licking her and having a remarkable sex, I slightly got out of bed while she was sleeping and it was dark.
I didn’t know I could stay that long in bed while having sex.
That sure is surprising.
I put on my white robe, lit up my cigarette and drank red wine as I strolled to the balcony to have some quiet time to myself.
