Chapter 50: Chapter 50

Ask Diddy your most personal interrelationship questions. Tell Diddy everything. Go on! We dare you!

Remember, the reason Ask Diddy is added to the school newspaper is to help students interact with a fellow yet an anonymous student. All secrets told to Diddy remain secret.

Dear Diddy,

The best way to put this, Diddy, is that I am on an assignment. No, I am not a spy or a secret agent. My assignment here is illegal and I will do whatever it takes to complete it. I can’t tell you the details but I am trying to save my clan from long-term generational poverty. We will never have to work for money or bend our knees for any other person just to live and survive. Why am I telling you this? When things get out of hand, I want you Diddy to know that I tried to warn you.

_Be careful.

Dear Be careful,

I am currently trying not to smack my head at your stupidity. It seems like one of you Edwin and Co. kids have gotten their hands on System/Worldbuilding games again. There’s too much going on in Edwin and Co. for me to pay attention to your childish rants. When you are done being foolish, dear Be careful, don’t forget to read for your upcoming tests. Best wishes.

-Diddy.

The next day as soon as we woke up I got my things together and headed to my apartment. Don’t blame me for running away from some extra drama very early in the morning.

Mr. Jorge called Aaron and me to his office very early in the morning. There on one of the seats was a man with a tag on his dark blue uniform that indicated he was the head of the security team in our school.

“I will let Jonathan tell you what he has to say,” Mr. Jorge indicated the man as soon as we opened the office door.

“Good morning, students,” he said as we walked into the office. “I know yesterday must have been terrifying for you all. The good news is there were no further suspicious movements yesterday so I can say for a fact that you are safe for now. However, we did get a definitive print from the pliers found on the fence but it doesn’t match the DNA found in the shoes. This means there were two people at work last night and both must have run out when Eva ran out raising alarm last night after seeing one of them in her bathroom. So, I was trying to convince Mr. Jorge here that you students should be allowed to go home until all of these is cleared…”

“And I have told you that that is impossible. Mr. Maximilian Edwin has too much scandal in his life right now to be labeled as the man who couldn’t keep his students safe. You do realize that we have children of monarchs, world leaders, and famous actors and musicians do you not?”

“Mr. Jorge I understand that but if your theory that this is the work of the enemy of one of the students you have here then wouldn’t sending these kids home so that they can have maximum security in their homes be the best thing to do?”

“Their parents sent them here for a reason,” Mr. Jorge argued hitting the tip of his index finger on the desk. “And I didn’t call you here to plant doubt in the kids' minds I called you to let them know your plans for today and tomorrow.”

Jonathan released a sigh. “Fine.” He turned back to Aaron and me. “We will be following you to the game tomorrow, at a distance of course without alerting the intruders to our presence. In a way, this game is a good way to work on the fastest way to capture the culprits. With my team and the Class 3 seniors out of school, the rest of the security team can keep an eye on the others and decide who the enemy is truly after. We have also decided that the class 2 seniors should go with you to the game.”

“If you are going with us does that mean you think the intruder is after one of the final-year students?” I asked.

“Yes. The intruder did come to the Seniors’ quarters after all.”

“That makes sense,” I said looking at Aaron for confirmation. “Thank you for your service, Mr. Jonathan. A couple of the seniors have listed possible enemies who could be after their families. I will get the list and bring it when we are done here.”

He looked impressed. “That will be great.”

As soon as we were done I went back to the hostel and got the list Aaron compiled together yesterday. Let me just say that I am pleased as heck to have normal, everyday parents. If I had to gather this many enemies to be born to rich parents then I’ll pass.

By the time Aaron and I returned to the main school area the main hostel doors were opened.

A loud static caught everyone’s attention for a moment, then Shewa’s voice came through loudspeakers from the school area.

“It’s another great Friday Edwins and Edwinas! Shall we put the unpleasantness of yesterday behind us and focus on what’s truly important? Tomorrow, the senior boys of Edwin and Co. play against the boys of St. Patrick! Can I hear your loudest cheer?!”

Everyone spilling out of both the hostels and seniors' quarters cheered loudly. Jake Newmarsh caught my eye and came over.

“Hi,” he said. “I’m guessing since we aren’t being shipped off to our homes everything is good?”

“To a degree,” I yelled over Shewa’s voice and the cheers. “The security team is making great progress so far.”

“Good. Some of the other students were demanding to know what was happening.”

“What did you tell them?”

“That it was a drill to practice in case of a real invasion.”

I couldn’t be any more sure that this was Aaron’s replacement as Head Boy. Luckily Aaron was coming over. He put his hand around my shoulder.

“What’s going on?”

I smiled up at him. “Have you found a replacement for when we graduate?”

“Still looking into it. Why?”

“Jake here will make a good Head boy.”

Jake’s eyes widened. “Me?!”

Aaron was observing him then he put his hand out to grab Jake’s shoulder and patted him. “We will see.”

Jake left us in astonishment and I watched him go. Suddenly Aaron’s arms closed around me.

“I missed you so much last night. It seems we haven’t had any time to ourselves for so long.”

“I know, well it seems like you’ve been staying away from me.” I leaned back to look into his face.

“I would never. I would have chosen you yesterday if Siobhan hadn’t called my name.”

“I know that. It couldn’t be helped, though so I guess I understand. She and Andre are currently not on the best terms. Although,” I looked away from Aaron and saw Siobhan catching up with Andre. She slipped her arm around his waist. “It looks like they are back together.”

Aaron was looking too. His arms tightened around my waist protectively. I saw the tension in his jaw as he stared.

“Hey,” I called his attention. “Are you alright?”

“Do you know that for every top shooter at tomorrow’s game, you stand a chance to win three kisses from three cheerleaders of your choice? That’s true boys! This means you all should do your best tomorrow. And after that, we get to party! I hope you all are ready to dress your best for your chances  to be crown king and queen of Summer Term!”

There were surprised and pleased gasps from the junior students. Soon the only thing they cared about were the preparations, decorations, and clothes for the party. I’m guessing Mr. Jorge will have them busy with the organization of the party to keep them both out of harm’s way and the guards’ job.

“I get to kiss you tomorrow before everyone?” Aaron asked beaming. “I want everyone to know you are mine. That sounds like a good idea!”

“Yeah but…” he was already detaching himself from me.

“Need to join the boys for practice. See you later!”

“But…” he was already running toward the court. I stood there looking at him wondering what was wrong. He was sweet but something didn’t seem right. It felt like he intentionally avoided my question.
