Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Agnes woke up and found herself in the hospital, she could not understand why she was in there.

She looked around and when she was sure that there was no one around, except for the patients in her ward, she stood from the bed and removed the hospital wear on her body.

Slowly, she crept out of the hospital without any body having to see her.

Indeed she was really clever and good at sneaking out.

She walked across the road, the she stopped a taxi. As soon as the taxi came to a halt, she hopped without having any particular destination in mind.

For now, all she wanted to do was leave.

They drove for sometime but she still had not told him where she was heading to, probably he was becoming too curious, so he decided to ask her.

"Where are you heading to?" the cab man asked her.

"I do not have any idea," she answered.

"What do you mean by that?" the cab man asked, as he applied his break.

"You heard me. Do not worry, I have enough money with me and I am going to pay you, so just keep going," she said to him.

The cab man looked at for sometime before continuing.

As the car moved, she kept her eyes solely focused on the road.

No one knew why she was leaving or where she was heading to?

Charlie's POV

"Hey man, so what are you doing about the allegations placed on you by your uncle?"

"Nothing. I will not do anything, they can continue spreading rumors as much as they want. The company is still mine and there is no way I am letting go of it, not for any reason."

"Charlie I believe that you you are not bothered about them in anyway but you really need to do something?"

"Besides the board members of the Empire business, gave you one week to prove your innocence. Your profit share will be withheld if you do not provide enough proof."

"To hell with their profit shares, I have many other companies that can fund me, so there is no way I am begging the empire business to take me back."

"Have you forgotten that if you are not a member of their empire, then you can't be in partnership with any of their members. Besides we have two pending proposals with one of their members."

"So what do you suggest that I do? Should I beg them to take me back?"

"No Charlie. All you have to do is provide a solid prove that shows that you are straight and then people can stop talking about you being gay."

"The problem now is how can I prove it?"

"It is very simple, just find a nice woman and get married to her," Pascal, my best friend suggested.

I gave him a sharp look at once. "How can suggest such a thing to me? You know for a fact that I love someone but I can't find her."

"I know but don't you think that it's time to move on, this woman you claim you love is nowhere to be found. You can never tell, maybe she's with another man."

If it were another person in front of me, spouting all this rubbish, I would have definitely shown him or her their place but this was my best friend and his advice had helped me many a times.

"I can't get married to another woman. Suggest something else."

Pascal began to pace around the room, "I've got another idea."

"Spit it out then."

"A contract marriage," he finally said out.

What, this was one of the many reasons why I disliked this best friend of mine, there was no way I could hurt any woman or put myself in such circumstance.

He was still talking about how we would go about with the contract marriage, when Annabelle, my receptionist knocked on the door.

"Sir, a woman is here for a job interview. She looks a bit unkept. I tried chasing her out but she is just too adamant," she reported to me.

"I guess I have to take my leave then," Pascal said and began to walk out of my face.

"Bye," I said to him.

I turned to my receptionist and told her, "let the lady in."

Agnes's POV

I finally found a way to leave the city, with the help of Ethan's nanny, I was able to get my passports and every other thing I needed.

I had still had some money in my account, so I withdrew from it and left for Australia. I heard so much about Australia, so I figured that it would be the best place for me to start over and re build my esteem.

I lodged into an hotel, at least I was going to stay there till I find a better apartment for myself.

One day while I was heading to the supermarket to get some deodorants for myself, I came across a flier which a bold inscription on it. "Job Vacancy."

I knew this was my chance, so without wasting anytime, I took out my pen and a little paper from my bag, then I copied out the address in the flier.

I stopped a taxi and showed him the address, he nodded his head and started to drive to the place.

Well I wasn't sure if I looked presentable enough but I just couldn't waste anytime because anyone could be able to get that position, if I took my time.

As I walked in, I saw a woman behind a desk and so I presumed that she was the receptionist.

I walked to her and told her the reason why I was here.

"Good day ma. I am here for the job Vacancy," I said to her.

She looked at me from head to toe and in a degrading way before she spoke to me.

"I am sorry to disappoint you madam but the position we need does not suit you in any way," the receptionist said to me.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked her, feeling a bit insulted.

"You have to leave now. The position does not suit you," she said.

"You are just a receptionist, you do not have the right to dismiss me. I want to see your boss right away," I said to her, then tapped her desk in a very furious way.

She looked at me for sometime, the. she nodded and moved away from her desk, probably to go and call the boss.

"Wait," I said to her.

She turned and with a smile she said, "finally, I thought it was going to be to hard to convince you to go back to your house."

I smiled and walked to her. "Trust me, I have suffered enough to know when and when not to give up."

"Ohh," she mouthed.

"Well I was about to say something before you interrupted. Make sure you get whoever the boss is to meet me or I might cause havoc and the. the whole blame will be put on you," I threatened her, the look in her eyes showed that she took what I said seriously.

She nodded in a meek way and walked away.

I sat on a chair which was apparently selected for visitors, waiting for her and the supposed boss.

I saw a man come out of the direction which the receptionist had taken, so I believed it was the boss.

Before he could reach me, I stood up, waiting for him to arrive, so that I could greet him.

"Good day sir," I said to him, as he approached.

He paused and looked at me, the same way the receptionist had done earlier.

"You must be the lady that's here to see Charlie," he said, still looking at me.

"Sorry but are you the boss?" I asked him.

"No, I am not but I am the boss's best friend," he replied.

"I am Pascal and you?" he asked, stretching out his hand.

After all I had gone through in the hands of men, I couldn't bring myself to have anything sort of relationship, aside work with them.

So I just left his hand hanging and salt back on the chair.

I didn't look his way again but I noticed that he looked at me for some time before leaving.
