Chapter 15: Chapter 15

Agnes woke up. She stretched her hand to the other side of the bed and whispered. "Ethan."The bed was empty. She got startled. "Ethan," she called in a haste voice.

"I am the right here," he said faintly. He was seated on the bed and drew the blanket to cover her half naked body.

"What happened yesterday night?" Ethan asked.

The bombshell dropped.

Agnes's face turned sour. "You do not remember?"

"Remember what?" he asked.

"I was so drunk yesterday right? My mind is blurred. I need an answer."

"Yes, you were drunk," she said in a fierce tone.

"Tell me something. Did I touch you?" he asked.

"Yes," she answered, with a hideous smile on her face. Finally her husband had touched her sexually.

"I thought you didn't love me Ethan but yesterday you proved just how much you loved me."

"How?" he asked. "Because I had sex with you? I am sorry that I took your virginity dear wife but all in all I used a condom." He added in a sarcastic tone.

"Ethan," she shouted in anger. "How dare you?" Don't you want me to become pregnant? You clearly told me that you wanted me to be the mother of your children, yet you stand here and say all this despicable things to me. I hate you so much."

"I do not care about your feelings for me. You can choose to hate me or love me but I apologise for taking away your pride," he said and stood up.

"You are my husband. Why are you apologizing to me?" she asked, feeling so dejected.

"Do not disturb my peace Woman. I will take my leave. Freshen up and come downstairs for breakfast," he said to her.

She stood up with the blanket wrapped around her chest. "Tell me the truth Ethan, am I just a pawn to you? Tell me the truth, you married me for a purpose right?"

Fear clouded Ethan's eyes on hearing her words. Was she beginning to get to the bottom of the issue? He had to hasten up, if he didn't want her to suspect him. Infact suspect was a topic, he had to be fast, if he did not want her to actualize her suspect.

"Why are you so silent? Have you become deaf or dumb? Say something Ethan," she said wryly.

"Make a point," he said looking away.

"The point is clear," her voice seemed to entangle. "So I am just your pawn but why did you make me believe you loved me?"

His eyelids flicked. He raised his eyebrows and courageously looked at her. "You are certainly insane. You are crazy, infact. How can you think of such a thing?"

"Divorce me now, you do not need to wait for the auspicious time," she said, clearly.

He feared her words. "Who is playing with your brain? Because it is very obvious that these words aren't from you."

"No one is playing with my brain. You are the only only one playing with my brain, my mind, my soul, my heart, my head and lastly the love I have for you, Than." she said amidst tears.

"I do not have time for your nonsense. We have only been married for just few days and yet you have turned into a nagging old hag. Listen I have not intended or planned to use you as a pawn or neither do I want to divorce you. I need sometime before I can accept that I am no longer a bachelor," he said and walked out on her, shutting the door behind him.

"How could you?" she voiced out, as she cried.

"Why did you use a condom, when we are married? It only means one thing Ethan, you have not accepted me willingly.

"Ethan it's been a month since you have been married, give me a gist on how you and your wife are faring," Clinton said.

"Clint, you know why I married her. You know I did not willingly accept her, you are very aware of how much I hate her. I only married her to take revenge on her for what she did to me on the first day of our meeting. So why are you asking me questions that you know I will never answer?" he voiced out angrily.

"Mehn calm down. You should not be serious in everything. I just asked because I was concerned...

Ethan interrupted him. "I had sex with her last night."

"You did what?* Clinton's voice was shattering as the news. "Why man?"

"I was drunk, I was not aware of my actions."

"This mistake could be really costly. What if she gets pregnant? I hope you know it will be very difficult for you to get rid of her," Clinton said lividly.

"Well luckily for me, I used a condom," he revealed to him. "I also told her about the condom, she is so angry at me, she even suspects that I am just using her as my pawn and very soon I will divorce her. With the way things are going, I am scared that she might be the person to throw the divorce papers at me first."

"That's all your fault. You can't maltreat her and expect her to fold her hands, watching you behave behave unfairly to her. She is a woman. Come to think of it, it hasn't been up to three weeks you both got married, so when did all of this happen?"

"It's actually a week ago," Ethan answered.

"Is she still suspecting you?" Clinton asked.

"No she is not but she is acting all cold this days," he detailed, looking so worn out.

"How, from good to bad or vice versa?"

"No, she has become so quiet as ever, tolerating whatever I do to her. She does not even complain when I bring in other girls to the house and sleep with them on our matrimonial bed. She is either crying somewhere or sleeping in a dark corner."

"Tell me the truth Ethan, you are worried about her, right?" Clint asked.

"I am not, it's just that her tolerance makes me scared to the core. What if she becomes traumatized? I won't be able to show her to my dad, then I will lose the properties to my uncle. It is remaining only four months and some weeks before I divorce her but it seems as though it is remaining a whole three years. I am so tired of waking up and seeing the face of that tramp," he spoke out, aggressively.

"I do not know why you hate her so much and I do not care to know but Ethan I am pleading with you to give her a bit of respect for the love she has for you, if not for anything. Look, she had nothing before she married you, but her peace of mind was intact. Now you have taken away that peace from her. Even if you provide her with everything in the world, that peace will still be missing. If I had a say in your life, my advice would be that you divorce her and find any other girl who deserves this punishment. I even find your dad splitting the properties between you and your uncle much better, than for that small girl to suffer for what she doesn't know or deserves."

"Do you have whiskey?" Ethan asked, he needed something to drink.

"I have got all types of drinks. Name any drink you want, I've got all of them," Clinton remarked.

"Whiskey will do," Ethan answered. "Marrying Whitney has made my life so different, boring and suffocating. Now I clearly understand that bachelorhood is a license to freedom. As for marriage, it is a license to limitations and bondage."

Clinton stood, "that's your own point of view man. The truth is that marriage is as sweet as honey, when love exists and as tasty as sugar, only if you know the essence," Clint said and walked into the bar, to get a bottle of whiskey and two glasses. He placed them in a tray and took it to the sitting room.

After dropping it into table, he said, "serve yourself and after that, we will make a toast to you and your beautiful wife."

Ethan sneered at his words.

Clint laughed out, "cheer up Ethan, it's just a harmless joke."

He opened the whiskey and poured it into the glass cups, then he handed a glass to Ethan.

"Thank you," Ethan said.

"Marcus my son, how are you?" His father said, while sitting on the visitor's seat.

"Good day dad," his eyes was fixed to the window of his office.

"Have a seat and to answer your question, I am so good and happy. Scheming is a trade mark for success, progress and happiness."

"What have you done this time around?" His dad asked, amidst surprise.

"I have sown the seed of hatred between some people. I did something that you would never think I could be able to do," Marcus said, smiling so widely.

"What mystery have you done this time around?" His dad asked with enthusiasm.

"I have just made our problems reduce in size. Ethan had deceived us by presenting a fake information and invitation card to us. He even got married to the love of my life under our nose."

"Have you gone mad? The love of your life should be wealth and nothing else. Women are a burden. Your mother was the biggest mistake in my life and her death was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Listen to me, you fool do not be deceived by women and their looks. They are all decorated masquerades."

"Except for this girl dad," Marcus said, grinning from ear to ear.

"You better stop behaving like a fool or else I will have to blow off your skull and bear the pain of not having a child anymore if you dare talk about that woman again," his dad warned him. "Have I made myself clear?"

He nodded, "I understand you dad but trust me, I am ready to die for this girl."

"I will have to send you to the asylum, you mental health needs to be checked. I am very sure you are not in your correct state of mind," his dad said, looking paranoid.

"Listen to me son, you can die once my brother transfers all of the properties to me."

"Hmm," Marcus let out a sigh.

"Now give me a much better news," his dad commanded.

"Agnes is on the verge of divorcing my cousin and once she has done that, we can be sure of having all the properties to ourselves." he said spontaneously.

His dad let out an evil laugh, "that is the reason I call you my son. You are just as smart as I am. Keep it up son. You have proved to me that I can rely on you with everything, including my life," he praised Marcus knew his father and he was certain that his father's words were just fictions and not real. His father could never trust anyone and he was certain about that.

His father was so deceitful and two faced. He lied a lot.

He smiled at his dad, "I shall take my leave dad, I have a lot of work to do."

"Very well my son, I hope you have talked to your uncle ever since he travelled?" The man asked.

"No. Why do you ask?" he asked, looking a bit confused.

"Because he wants to write out his will." The sly old man replied.

"Do you mean he has already written out his will?" he asked, searching desperately for an answer.

"Yes but we can not be hundred percent sure about that. He claimed that the only his son would get from him was the company, his house and three hundred million dollars. While we get his estates, his his hotels, his roads, his filling stations, his remaining billions, his cars and his business properties."
