Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Erik's POV

The fact that he is directing his killer's intent on Clara confirmed my suspicions. The wedding ceremony and celebration were ongoing until midnight. After that, we all rest, and now we are preparing to travel back to the pack house since the wedding is already over. We planned on staying for two more nights, but Lia scolded us, telling us that we could not be away from the pack for too long. Even after Clara pouted at her, she still insisted on going home.

We were done putting our luggage in the back of my truck and rode in my car. As usual, Tia rode her broom and flew across the sky while we were in my vehicle. Ian and Lia sat in the front, Ian was the driver, and I was with my mate at the back.

The drive home was quiet. With all the problems we kept facing, we all thought the same.

"When will this end?"

•••••

We traveled for two days, and now we are officially home. Clara and I made our way to our house to take a rest.

"I'm hungry," Clara said. We were about to sleep when she said that she wanted to eat.

"Babe, we finished our dinner," I reminded her.

"I know, but I am hungry," She said with finality.

"I'll go down to the kitchen and cook something. You go and sleep," She said and hurriedly left the room. I shook my head and followed her to the kitchen.

She was moving fast, looking through cabinets for utensils to use. She hurriedly opened the refrigerator to look for something to cook. She was moving too fast that I got scared she might hurt herself.

I grabbed her arm and turned her to me. "Sit there and wait patiently. I will cook you something light since it's already dark," I said.

"Something light? Erik, I am hungry," Clara said word by word.

I sighed and gave her what she wanted. I opened the fridge and took some meat to make it a steak. Clara licked her lips when seeing the meat. When I saw her lick her lips, I got aroused. Who wouldn't?

"Can you please cook faster?" Clara urged.

"Relax, babe. It's not like you didn't eat earlier." I said jokingly.

"I am hungry," Clara repeated.

"Okay, okay," I said, raising both hands at the side of my head, showing defeat.

"Can you also make some salad for my side dishes?" Clara demanded.

"Yes, your highness," I said.

This was the first time Clara got hungry late at night. She always eats on time, except if she wakes up late, but she always eats on time.

I did what she wanted and cooked her a meal. I cooked steak and salad for her. I served her the food and watched her eat at the other side of the table.

"You eat like you haven't eaten for days," I said.

She gave me a look and rolled her eyes to me. "I got hungry all of a sudden okay?" Clara said, defending herself.

"You finish your food so we can rest," I said. She straightened her back and gave me a salute.

I smiled, looking at Clara gobble her food is adorable. She is weird now, but this sight is still priceless to me.

"Are there any problems while we're gone?" I asked Vincent, who is in my office giving me reports.

"Rogues are getting wilder every day. They are always open to trying to attack anyone they want. We had a barrier, so there is nothing they can do about it, and our project to build a wall is proceeding properly," Vincent reported.

"I see. How about the preparations of our troops?" I asked again while looking at some documents that were on my table.

"Yes, the troops will gather here and at Alpha Rick's," Vincent said and gave me another document.

"That is all the information that I gathered about Alpha Louis. I gathered the information myself," Vincent said.

I read the document and nodded at Vincent. This information is reliable since Vincent himself gathered it. As I've said, Vincent's information is always accurate and reliable.

Vincent said his goodbyes and left the room. I read the document thoroughly.

"4th day on the month of fall 15 years ago. He gathered some troops and marched them to another Alpha's territory Came back to his pack by himself a year later," I read out loud.

"The name of the Alpha where he went and attacked with his troops is unknown. Alpha Louis is constantly leaving his pack and will come back months later. He gave all the work and management of the pack to his beta."

15 years ago? That was when my father was killed. So he is the one who is responsible for attacking our pack. I do not need to investigate who that Alpha is since it is obvious that it's my father.

The only thing that curious me is that he constantly leaves his pack and lets his beta do all the work. Where does he keep on going? He comes back months later? What kind of Alpha is that? Or he is so busy helping the Raging Tail that he can't run his pack correctly.

Whatever the reason is, one thing is sure. I've got you now, Alpha Louis.

Clara's POV

I woke up and saw members coming in and out of our house.

"Something happened again," Angeline said, curious about what was happening.

I went to the kitchen and saw Ellie preparing some food she had cooked on the dining table.

"Good morning," I said happily.

"Good morning, come and eat," She invited, and I happily smiled at her.

I sat down, some plates were already prepared, and she served me some food.

"Where's Erik? I mind-linked him earlier to eat some breakfast," She said while serving me food.

"I think he is in his office. I'll try and min-link him," I said, and she sat on the chair in front of me.

She started eating her food, and I mind-link Erik.

"Where are you? Come and eat breakfast, babe," I said.

"I'll be there in a minute," He said and looked at Ellie.

"He'll be here in a minute," I said.

"Okay then, let's eat," She said, and we started eating together while waiting for Erik.

Erik came to the kitchen in a few minutes and sat beside me. "Are you busy?" I asked.

"Yes, the wall that we are building is proceeding nicely, so I am making some preparations for our next projects for the country," He explained while putting food on his plate.

"I see. I'm glad our plans for the country are doing okay," I said and ate some sausages.

"You just started eating, my love? You should not have waited for me," He said, and I raised a brow to him.

"It was her second serving," Ellie said while standing up and going to the cooking area while bringing the plate with her.

"Second?" Erik said while chewing his food.

"Yes, dear, I am hungry," I told him the truth. I am starving, and I don't think this second serving won't satisfy my hunger.

"So this hunger is like last night?" He said while slicing some meat on his plate and eating it.

"Maybe yes, or maybe this is more," I replied, not even looking at him and focusing on my food.

He mouthed an o and focused on his food. Last night he cooked me three servings of steak and two servings of salad. It was so satisfying when I finished all he prepared for me. Thinking about the food, I ate last night made me even more hungry.

"Can you pass some scrambled eggs, please" I requested, and he passed me the plate full of scrambled eggs.

Instead of getting some scrambled eggs on the plate, I set aside my empty plate and ate all the scrambled eggs.

"Are you that hungry?" Erik asked, surprised.

"I don't know. I'm just hungry," I said.

Erik just shrugged his shoulders and finished his food. I also finished eating the scrambled eggs, I want to eat more, but it seems I am eating more than usual. "I should hold back," I thought.

"What are your plans for today?" Erik said while taking my empty plates and putting them on top of his empty plate.

"Nothing much. I will just check where the warriors will stay with Tia, you?" I said and asked him also.

"I'll be in my office as usual" He grunted and brought the plates to the kitchen sink.

"I'll come with you since Tia hasn't arrived yet," I said while standing up from my chair when suddenly I felt dizzy. I grabbed the chair sitting for support, and Erik rushed to me.

"Are you okay?" He said with a worried look.

I closed my eyes and waited for my dizziness to be gone. When I felt okay, I stood up properly, let go of the chair, and looked at Erik, who was restless in front of me. I smiled at him to calm him down, and I felt that he relaxed a little in our link.

"We should go to the doctor," He said, and I shook my head.

"No need, It must be because I stood up fast," I said, not wanting to make this a big deal.

"Are you sure?" He asked, making sure that I was okay. He looked worried and kept glancing at me while we walked toward his office.

"Yes, babe, don't worry, I am fine," I reassured him.

"We will get weaker as the days come," Angeline said.

"What do you mean?" I asked, but she didn't respond, so I just remembered her words.

I focused on walking toward his office, but he kept glancing at me, worried I would feel dizzy again. I laughed at him, and he gave me a confused look. We stopped walking for a minute to face each other. "I am feeling fine, okay?" I said, loving his reaction since he looked so cute.

"Are you sure? Maybe we should go to the doctor first for reassurance, or maybe call Tia to check on you," He offered, and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Stop being a worrywart and walk faster. You still have meetings to attend to," I said, grabbing his arm and pulling him to walk until we reached his office.

"When you feel dizzy again, we will immediately go to the pack doctor, understood?" He said, and I nodded at him, also giving him a salute. He fixed his posture before entering his office.

I know I'm not sick, which was just a coincidence. Maybe I am just under the weather, and Angeline said we would be getting weaker as time goes by. I followed Erik and also entered the office. Vincent and Ian were there waiting for Erik, and when they saw us enter the room, they immediately bowed to us.

"Your majesty, your highness," greeted us, and I smiled at them.

Erik sat down on his chair, and I sat on the sofa on the side. Vincent stepped forward and gave Erik some documents. "This is?" Erik asked Vincent while looking at the paper.

"The total materials used on building the wall for this week and a drawing for you to see the progress," Vincent said and stepped back.

"Is there no lack of materials?" Erik asked while looking up to see Vincent.

"None, your majesty. The trees we exported here are enough for the month," Vincent said, and Erik nodded.

"Good, I like the way they built the wall. There are no problems, and they followed the design on the blueprints," Erik said, looking through the documents again and putting the papers inside the cabinet of his table. He looked at Ian, and Ian stepped forward.

"Your majesty, the troops will arrive in ten minutes," Ian reported. "Good, you go and wait for their arrival. Just mind-link Tia to make an entrance on the barrier. After that, you bring the troops to the throne. Clara and I will greet them there. The captains will dine with us here for dinner while the warriors will eat in the pack house. Tell your mate and Angela to prepare lots of food for the warriors here and at the pack house," Erik ordered.

"Yes, your majesty," Ian said and bowed before leaving the office.

Erik slumped his back to the chair and looked at Vincent. "You look good. Is that the result of finishing your mating process?" Erik teased, and I laughed.

"Shut up, both of you," Vincent said and slumped his body to the sofa while grunting.

I smelt Vincent's perfume and felt nauseous. Erik stood, surprised that I felt sick. "Are you okay?!" Erik exclaimed, and I nodded while covering my mouth. I glanced at Vincent, who was looking at me with a worried look. "What kind of perfume are you wearing?" I said, feeling irritated at his smell.

"What? This is the perfume that I always use, and you'll react now?" Vincent said, smelling his shirt.

"I don't like the smell, and I should go to Tia instead of waiting here. I can't tolerate your perfume any longer," I complained and left the room while pinching my nose not to smell the perfume.

I was not too fond of his perfume to the point I felt nauseous. I shook my head and headed to the pack house to meet Tia.
