Chapter 494: Chapter 494
When Titus Zane got into the car of his mother Ariana Evans, he took a deep breath.
The silver Honda started slowly, and Titus Zane unconsciously turned his head to glance at the dimly-lit villa, quickly withdrawing his gaze after just a glance.
Because looking any longer, he feared he would not be able to control his emotions.
A weight settled on the back of his hand, it was Ariana’s hand covering his, warm just like when he was a child.
"Titus, don’t be sad, let the misunderstandings be misunderstandings. After all, there were plenty of them before."
Titus Zane smiled, but the curve of his lips couldn’t hide his self-mockery.
"Mom, I’m not sad. This place was never my home."
His home was in Paris, the small house that once carried all his struggles and joy.
"Good that you understand." Ariana gave a meaningful glance as the silver sedan slowly drove out of the villa area.
Initially, Titus Zane had planned to stay in a hotel; he had already booked a flight to Capital City three days later to visit Jon, and then he would return to Paris to wait for news.
Because in his home country, there was no longer anyone he longed for.
Yet, he ended up being forcibly taken home by Ariana, and upon seeing the similarly dimly-lit buildings, Titus Zane hesitated before following Ariana inside.
Seeing Titus Zane return, Julian Zane unusually did not put on a stern face like before, and even took the initiative to greet him.
Although it was not warm, it moved Titus Zane.
Standing inside the villa door, Titus Zane didn’t continue walking inside but sought Julian Zane’s opinion.
"Dad, I’ll stay one night and then leave."
Julian Zane’s lips moved, and before he could say anything, Ariana spoke first.
"Child, even at your own house you’re still so formal. Come in, it’s cold outside, close the door."
Seeing his father Julian Zane didn’t oppose, Titus Zane then pulled his suitcase in, and headed towards the stairs.
"Let Mrs. Zhang make some late-night snacks, Titus hasn’t had dinner yet." While putting down the medical box, Ariana spoke, and Julian Zane got up from the sofa, "No need to call Mrs. Zhang, I will do it." After that, he walked towards the kitchen.
Watching her husband’s retreating figure, Ariana couldn’t help but scoff. Get full chapters from NoveI★Fire.net
Sitting at the dining table, looking at the plain noodles in front of him with a poached egg on top, Titus Zane felt unexpectedly cherished.
For the first time in thirty-one years, his father had actually cooked noodles for him personally.
"Eat up, go back to your room to rest early after you’re done." Seeing his daughter just looking without moving her chopsticks, Julian Zane spoke.
"Thank you, Dad." Titus Zane hardly curved his lips, not sure if it was because his father had been too indifferent in the past, he was somewhat unaccustomed to the sudden care.
"Hmm," Julian Zane responded indifferently and then left the dining room, slowly going upstairs while holding onto the railing.
Titus Zane didn’t know if it was his illusion, but he always felt that in the short span of two days, his father had suddenly aged a lot, looking somewhat spiritless.
"Titus, eat quickly, or the noodles will become mushy." Ariana had already changed into home clothes and was applying hand cream to her hands as she sat down opposite Titus Zane, still as kind as before.
"Mom, have you ever eaten the food Dad made?" Curious, Titus Zane asked, and Ariana lowered her gaze, seeming to recall.
"When we were young, your dad often cooked for me."
Back then, right after being fired from the hospital and having a miscarriage, she spent her days holed up in a rented room, doing nothing, sitting with her knees hugged and looking out the window at the blue sky outside, while Julian Zane would cook all three meals for her.
"Mom, Dad must have really loved you back when he was young, right?" Titus Zane swallowed the noodles in his mouth and tentatively asked.
Ariana came to her senses and smiled, saying, "At this age, there’s no need to talk about whether or not there’s love."
After saying that, she also got up, "Titus, Mom has a major surgery tomorrow and needs to rest early. You should sleep early too."
