Chapter 51: Chapter 51
At Old Madam Mo's room:
"What are you doing?" asked Yun Xi.
As soon as Linda heard Yun Xi's voice, she dropped whatever was in her hand. Her face went pale, facing Yun Xi. "No... Nothing. Wh... What could I be do.. doing? I was just checking if everything was fine." With that, she picked up whatever she dropped and went out hastily.
Yun Xi narrowed her eyes, seeing her run away. She was acting suspiciously. Earlier, Yun Xi couldn't see what Linda was doing as her (Linda's) back was facing Yun Xi. She only saw her doing something with an IV drip which was being supplied to Old Madam Mo.
Yun Xi had an instinct that something was wrong. Without thinking anymore, she changed the bottle of the IV drip with another one. She has been learning different things to take care of Old Madam Mo better. So, changing the bottle of saline water was nothing difficult for her now.
She then hid the used bottle under her dress. As her belly was already a big bulge, she was wearing loose maternity clothes, no one would be able to tell that she was hiding something underneath. She then checked around, and when she saw no one lurking around, she walked out. She did not want to make family members worried for nothing. She wanted to make sure what was going on first.
...
Linda rushed to her room and slammed the door close. She was sweating profusely, and her whole body was trembling.
"Did she see anything?" She asked herself, biting her nails in anxiety. She was scared of what just happened. Yun Xi had caught her in the act. But Linda was not sure if Yun Xi saw everything.
Linda started pacing around the room in worry. "What if she got suspicious? What if she informed other family members?" These questions continuously played in her head.
She wanted to contact the person from whom she got the message earlier. But she knew that if she did so, that man will get rid of her in an instant. After all, she participated in such a huge matter.
Linda was reminded of the time when that man had contacted her for the first time.
(Flashback:)
It was 1 am in the morning, and Linda was awoken by her ringing cell phone. She rubbed her eyes as she irritatingly woke up. She glanced at the cell phone placed on the bedside table and realized that it was from her home.
"What is it? Why are you calling me this late night?" She started firing her questions as soon as she picked up the phone.
Instead of answers, from the other side came her mother's sobbing sounds. Linda was alarmed at that. She quickly sat up and asked, "What happened? Why are you crying?"
"Linda, your father has gotten into some problem. Please come home." Her mother asked in a teary voice. Before she could ask what was wrong, her mother hung up the phone. Even when she called back, no one picked up.
So, the first thing she did the next morning was returning back to her hometown. Her family lived in a countryside village. Before leaving, she informed Old Master Mo about it.
Seeing that she was worried, Old Master had told her to inform him if something was wrong at her home. He would help. Linda smiled and nodded, before leaving.
After around 5 hrs, she reached her hometown. Since it was a normal village, she had to first take a train and then a bus.
"Knock, knock."
The door was opened from inside and in came a view of a middle-aged woman of mid forty.
"Linda, my daughter. You are finally back." The woman hugged Linda.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Linda asked the same question as yesterday night.
The woman grabbed her hand and took her inside the house. "Come inside. I will tell you everything."
After getting herself seated, Linda's mother spoke up. "Your father- he- he lost some money in gambling."
Before she could complete her sentence, Linda shouted, "What? Again? Didn't I warn you not to give him any money?" She genuinely hated her father. To this day, he has not done anything other than bring trouble to the family.
Her mother replied while fidgeting with her fingers. "But he is your father after all. Also, I only gave him a little money. Who knew he would get loans from others and even spend them all on gambling. Now, the gambling lord has refused to let him go until he pays every single penny."
Linda stood up from her seat, hypered. "Then let him be. Maybe he will learn after getting some good beating from them."
Her mother started defending her husband. "Linda, just this once. You have money, right? Clear his loan for this last time. I won't give him a penny after this, I promise. Just this once."
"How many times have you said the same sentence? Do you only have that stupid husband of yours in your eyes? Have you ever thought of me? You people are just like a leech, leeching of all money from me, every single time."
Her mother's eyes widened at her blunt words. She begged in front of Linda that it will really be the last time.
After insistent begging and sobbing, Linda finally relented. Along with her mother, she walked to the place where her father was being kept. Her father was kneeling in front of the gambling lord. As soon as he saw his daughter coming, his eyes lit and crawled to the gambling lord. "Lord, that is my daughter. She has a lot of money. She will clear all the debts I owe."
Linda glared at her father at his remarks. How can he do that to his own daughter?
She then turned to the gambling lord and asked, "How much does he own?"
"A million dollar," came the reply.
Linda and her mother's mouths opened at his reply. "What?!" Linda shrieked in her high pitch voice, "One million dollars? Are you kidding me?"
"Did I stutter? If not, ask your father." Linda turned to her father with a questioning look.
Her father did not have an ounce of guilty look on his face. Instead, he walked to her and grabbed her arms tightly saying, "What are you shouting like that for? Just pay him the money."
"From where will I bring so much money?" Linda shouted at her father, swatting his hand.
"What do you mean where? You work for a billionaire family. Just make them a call. They will send you that much money in a second." Her father replied.
Linda wanted to kill her father at that moment.
"No," she decisively replied. "I am not doing anything of that sort. And I don't have that much money." She then turned to gamble lord and said, "You can just beat him or make him your servant. I don't care."
With that, she was about to leave when her father pulled her by her hair. Linda fought back with her father.
As the situation was getting heated up, a sound came from behind them.
