Chapter 1331: Chapter 1331
Walking down the street, Tilan touched the breathable veil on her face, and then followed the fragrance wafting to her nose.
"A really talented bird-masked doctor arrived at the main camp this morning, and lots of people had their illnesses cured instantly."
"Is that so? My brother-in-law went out hunting a while ago and got his back broken by a bison. I wonder if he can be cured. Normally, I really don't trust those rude and perfunctory doctors in the King Camp."
"It should be fine. There are people who have been bedridden for years who were able to get up. This shouldn't be a big problem."
Then many bystanders chimed in along the roadside. Some said the doctor was a rare 'Raven Species' who, according to legend, could pull the newly dead back from the Underworld. Others said the doctor was in disguise, actually an ancient Transcendent Mechanical Body that could diagnose and treat ailments via its internal database. Some even speculated that the doctor couldn't heal at all but was a Butterfly Species skilled in Illusion Techniques, making patients think they were cured through deception.
On this planet filled with a plethora of new and old Species, Mechanical Bodies, and relics of civilizations, people's imaginations and narratives were exceptionally rich.
Listening to these conversations, Tilan searched the street side, but many of the dining establishments had hygiene conditions that deterred her from entering. In the end, she had to settle for a relatively acceptable barbecue stall.
The grilled meat in the shop was freshly sliced and roasted with a knife, then sprinkled with seasoning, exuding a full aroma, but the prices were quite high.
Reaching the stall, Tilan lifted her hand from beneath her sleeve and pointed to the menu displayed beside her.
"One portion of big horn beef barbecue." Apart from the big horn beef, there were also roasted chicken legs and grilled fish, though these weren't very fresh but relatively cheaper.
"No problem. Are you sure you don't want any drinks? Eating just meat can be quite greasy." The owner introduced the large keg beside him; with just a twist of the valve, bubbly beer would gush out.
In environments lacking clean water conditions, brewed drinks were far more sanitary than river or spring water.
"No, thanks." She could condense distilled water herself and wasn't lacking for water to drink.
Just like that, while Tilan enjoyed her steaming, salted grilled meat, in the main tent of the King Camp, Gus was also reporting to the Wolf Blood Queen.
The broad dining table was filled with freshly prepared meats. A whole steamed and roasted piglet was lifted by the Wolf Blood Queen, torn in half with a single pull, and consumed entirely in two bites. Next, a roasted ham was picked up, torn at her mouth, its steam escaping, with some grease dripping onto the table.
Having listened to Gus's report, the Wolf Blood Queen flicked the leftover bones from between her fingers, landing on Gus's forehead.
"That young girl has some skills, and with her requests for so much food this time, it's evident she plans to cultivate and grow a settlement. With someone like her, it won't be long before a considerable force takes shape, perhaps even similar to the 'Gray Feather Scholar' of the past, stirring up an alliance reminiscent of Shilin Mountain Castle."
"Should we then prepare in advance, simply not letting her take the food away?" Gus rubbed the grease on his forehead and looked up, inquiring.
"Hmph, that's quite disgraceful and embarrassing."
"In recent years, I've rarely acted personally, aiming to groom you all and form a system of order and rules, facilitating future governance of the grasslands." The Wolf Blood Queen's crimson fingers rotated slightly.
"Be it religion or Law, or some method for those surrendered Grey Feather Species to concoct a grand title of righteousness or the like, what I need is a grassland that listens to orders, not a bunch of hypocrites stalling and holding us back."
Despite the Wolf Blood Species being strong, they hadn't formed a somewhat stable alliance, capable of mobilizing the resources of various settlements like Shilin Mountain Castle, which is why, despite being extraordinarily powerful under the Wolf Blood Queen's rule, they hadn't been able to extend their influence beyond the grasslands.
If the Wolf Blood Species were to launch an expedition, a portion would have to stay home, as no one would feel secure otherwise, and each command from the King Camp would require supervision by armed wolf cavalry; otherwise, many settlements wouldn't execute orders well.
For a period, the Wolf Blood Queen even considered exterminating all other settlements on the grasslands, but ultimately abandoned the notion upon realizing that eliminating them would mean the Wolf Blood Species themselves would have to take on the laborious chores.
Especially in farming, fishing, crafting, and herding, the Wolf Blood Species were neither skilled nor efficient, with corruption often occurring.
For the corruption among their own species, they couldn't push the blame outwards like with other settlements. In the end, it would mean more executions and the need to dispatch supervisors, bringing the situation back to square one.
So it was better as it was now, letting other settlement species handle the miscellaneous and laborious work, killing them if they performed poorly, thus maintaining a sense of superiority and unity internally while avoiding low efficiency.
"Let her heal, give her food, even let her take it away from the King Camp, but don't let her leave the grasslands alive and don't let anyone know her whereabouts."
"Like a beautiful dream, forgotten as if it never existed."

Her wine-red eyes watched the swaying wine in between her fingernails, somewhat disappointed that these people only understood when she spoke so bluntly.
It was time to educate those Grey Feather Species who had come seeking refuge; otherwise, wouldn't it be a shame if no one documented and passed on her greatness and beauty?
