Chapter 56: Chapter 56
Chapter 54
There will be no more squandered time. When I entered the library, I quickly took out the book that Mrs. Clea had taken from the North Pack. I must be prepared. I have to be prepared for anything. I need to get ahead of Beta Miguel before he can carry out his evil plan.
As my fingers grabbed the old book cover, I gazed at the ring on my finger. As I recall our wedding day, I bite my bottom lip. Alpha Greyson and I didn't get off to a good start, so I'll make sure everything works out in the end.
The title of the book was the first thing that caught my attention when I opened it. The Sacred List of North Pack. I'm not sure why I'm so nervous when I open the book. The book's vintage was clear because practically every page was torn open, so I was cautious. The names of renowned people who became the Alpha of the North Pack are included on each page.
Many Alphas have been through the North Pack, and they are all well-known and have made significant contributions to the North Pack. I was about halfway through the book when I came across a name. Miguel Ramirez. I read the details regarding Miguel Ramirez. It is said that he was born during the reign of Alpha King Erick. His family had an extensive stretch of land in North Pack and was known for being friendly and helpful. But one night there was news of the brutal murder of the Ramirez family.
However, the body of Miguel Ramirez was not discovered throughout the investigation, therefore he became the suspect in the murder.
When I read it, I got chilled. I can't be mistaken... this is Beta Miguel. The palace has not tampered with this book; thus, I am confident that it contains solely the truth. I continued to read.
When Miguel Ramirez returned to North Pack after five years, he was promptly imprisoned, but he claimed that he had simply run away from those who took him. His battered body was viewed as evidence that he had been tortured for nearly five years. The motive of those who abducted him was their large territory. When investigators searched for the people who kidnapped Miguel Ramirez, they discovered their lifeless bodies.
Miguel Ramirez returned to their land and resided there after being proven innocent. People close to Ramirez, on the other hand, saw a curious shift in Miguel Ramirez from the Miguel they formerly knew. The change in look is also discernible. The woman who said it and spread it, however, was never seen again.
I put down the book. What I read stunned me. In that case... Is it conceivable... that the Miguel Ramirez who goes by Beta Miguel's name presently isn't really his? As the realization dawned on me, I swallowed hard. Everything could have been prepared by Beta Miguel. To have an identity in the land of the North Snow Kingdom, he had to establish that he was part of a pack, for rogues like him would quickly get suspicious if he lived anonymously.
That's why he murdered Miguel Ramirez's family, stole Miguel Ramirez's body, and might as well have killed him before returning to the North Pack as Miguel Ramirez and made sure no one noticed.
I fixed my gaze on the next few words. Despite becoming an orphan at a young age, Miguel Ramirez became a valuable member of the North Pack. Until he attempted the North Snow Kingdom palace and became Crown Prince Greyson Ruiz's butler. And afterward, in his time, he became a great and excellent Beta.
I clenched my teeth as the truth crept up on me. I put the book down. All I need to do now is find out what his real name is. Who exactly are you, Beta Miguel?
When I exited the library, the guards who had been waiting for me, as well as Kylie and Rose, looked at me. They bowed for me.
"Do you need anything, Your Highness?" Rose inquired.
"I want to walk," I declared. Rose followed me with a nod. I made my way down to the palace's back passage. I looked at Kylie and motioned for her to approach me. She quickly followed.
"Do you know where the spare keys to the rooms in the palace are?" I said quietly. I noticed Kylie was immersed in thought.
"I just know it's under Elder Raymond," Kylie said. How can I steal Elder Raymond's spare key without him noticing?
"I'd like to go to Elder Raymond's office," I stated. She seemed surprised by what I said but she can't do anything about it so she told the guards. Maybe they were all wondering now why I would visit Elder Raymond.
Kylie knocked on Elder Raymond's door. "Queen Luna wishes to pay you a visit, Elder Raymond," Kylie said as she knocked on the door. Elder Raymond's welcoming visage appeared as the door soon opened. He was taken aback when he saw me.
"You didn't tell me you were coming to see me today, so I should have prepared some delicious food for you," he added. I cracked a smile. "There is no need for it, Elder Raymond. I'm... I'm just going to tell you an important matter," I replied. He nodded and finally let me into his office. Kylie and Rose also entered and the guards were left outside.
"What do you wish to ask, your Majesty?" Elder Raymond wondered, sitting in front of me. I took a deep breath and cast a quick glance at Kylie and Rose, who immediately caught my attention. I want them to check around and see if they can spot the keys.
"I heard that Rogues attacked the Rema Kingdom, and there is a chance that Rogues will attack us as well, but we have another problem, finding Dylan. I would like... you to help Alpha Greyson find Dylan, Elder Raymond," I replied, staring at his body, hoping to see the keys.
"I can do that without hesitation, your Majesty, but I have a question...Why would you ask someone as elderly and useless as me?" he inquired.
"Because you are the only one, I trust here in the palace, Elder Raymond," I murmured, unsure of what I was saying. Because the truth is that I don't trust anyone in the palace except my closest friends and Alpha Greyson.
He inhaled deeply. I stilled when I noticed the cluster of keys close to the frame at his table. Is that it? I caught sight of Kylie and Rose, and we seemed to be staring in the same direction.
"I'm thirsty... can you please give me some water?" I requested. Elder Raymond nodded swiftly.
"Just a moment, your Majesty," he murmured as he exited the office.
"Get it," I directed to Kylie and Rose. Rose stole the key, and Kylie replaced it with the fake keys I had told her to collect from Yna earlier.
Elder Raymond arrived just in time. I continued our conversation about that until I said goodbye to Elder Raymond. Alpha Greyson was still busy, so I ate lunch alone. When it was over, I thought of going to Beta Miguel's room where I hid yesterday to avoid Alpha Greyson.
"I need to pee, but you stay here first," I told the guards. I motioned for Kylie and Rose to follow me inside. I donned Kylie's cloak and, like I had done the day before, cooperated with Kylie to escape. The guards were well unaware that I went outside the restroom.
As I struggled to get the keys to fit Beta Miguel's door, I couldn't help but feel anxious. I don't know what Beta Miguel's key is here because the keys are too many! As sweat trickled down my brow, I bit my bottom lip. Especially when I heard footsteps down the corridor where I was standing. But before they could turn in my direction, I quickly opened Beta Miguel's room. I swiftly shut it, and Beta Miguel's neat and tidy room welcomed me. I didn't waste any time searching his room.
I'm sure there is something here to do with Dylan. I can't possibly be mistaken. I went through his cabinets and even his walk-in closet. I peered beneath his bed. I came to a halt when I noticed a solitary frame on his wall. My chest clenched as I stared at a woman's portrait. This cannot be... how... darn it! I approached the frame and looked at the engraved signature underneath it. The name of the person who painted it appears in the signature.
It states Phillip... and below that are the words 'My Luna... Shena.'
