Chapter 54: Chapter 54

Chapter 52

Gina informed me the next day that Mrs. Clea already arrived at the palace. To be honest, I was nervous when she was outside the palace, especially after hearing Elder Mateo and Beta Miguel talking. I know that soon they will investigate the person who was asking the North Pack about Beta Miguel.

I know that, even though Beta Miguel suspects that I am the one investigating him, I also know that, like me, he will be looking for proof that will put pressure on me that that'll allow him to carry out his terrible plan against me. But I won't let what he plans to happen. I won't let him break me in front of Alpha Greyson.

I made my way to Mrs. Clea's office as soon as possible. I told Rose to stay outside the library so that everyone would believe I was inside, but the truth is that I am going to sneak out and I would pretend to be Kylie while hiding my face with a dark cloak. The plan worked out in the end. Nobody spotted me when I left the library, and everyone assumed that I stayed inside the library.

I dashed over to Mrs. Clea's office. "Mrs. Clea!" I called as I entered her office, swiftly approaching her and hugging her warmly; I am grateful that she returned safely.

"Thank God you're safe!" I exclaimed with relief. Mrs. Clea smiled and brought me to sit across from her table.

"How are you, your Majesty? Is your pregnancy fine?" she inquired as she sat in front of me, as I nodded.

"I'm all right. Alpha Greyson has been looking after me," I replied, and Mrs. Clea gave a nod and later she took out an old book wrapped in an old paper, which I gulped hard as I glanced at.

"This is the book you're looking for, Your Highness. That book contains people who were members of the North Pack as well as people who left and never returned. I made sure everything written there was true because it came from a library that wasn't kept by the palace," she explained.

"Thank you, Mrs. Clea..." She smiled at me. "While I was asking the people there in the North Pack about Beta Miguel... I found out that no one knew who his parents were. He is only known there as the only wolf who became a Beta from the North Pack," she added. I pondered what she said. I already know the entire truth, but it's a whole different story when you see confirmation that all of your assumptions are true!

"I heard Elder Mateo and Beta Miguel talking in a hidden hallway while you were outside the palace. I overheard them discussing a person who was prowling around North Pack, asking inquiries about Beta Miguel. You were the first thing that came to mind, so I was worried that Elder Mateo's men would catch you," I explained.

She gave me a pleasant smile looking as if she was urging me not to be concerned.

"I'm fine, Your Majesty; you should be concerned about yourself, especially in this moment and time; remember that you're pregnant; you shouldn't be stressed like this," she urged. I nodded in agreement because she was right. Since it was just five minutes ago, I immediately said my goodbyes and returned to the library. I immediately pulled on the cloak and walked down the corridor, hoping no one would spot me.

But I instantly stopped walking and hid behind a wall when I noticed Beta Miguel and Alpha Greyson walking down the corridor! They have a large number of guards with them! Shit!

As I heard every footstep, I was filled with dread and trepidation. I was concerned since there was a good probability Alpha Greyson would smell me and detect my presence. We have a mate bond, and I have his mark, so I am terrified that he might notice me!

"We have no choice, Your Majesty, but to find Dylan our own way," Beta Miguel said as they went down the corridor. I forced myself even harder against the wall. But I couldn't stop thinking about what Beta Miguel had said. Did I understand correctly? He inspires Alpha Greyson to go find Dylan on their own!

No way!

"I'll think about it, Miguel," Alpha Greyson stated coldly. "We need to focus more on the kingdom because the Rogues may attack us."

"But we can stop the Rogues' attack if we find Dylan first," Beta Miguel said. My mouth dropped open. Beta Miguel will not stop until Alpha Miguel agrees to leave the palace! And, of course, that's part of his plan! Allowing Alpha Greyson to find Dylan, and then killing Alpha Greyson as soon as possible. It made me feel cold just thinking about it. No way... I'm not going to lose Alpha Greyson!

“The welfare of Amara and our child, Miguel, is more important to me." Alpha Greyson said firmly.

"You don't even know if that child is really yours, your Majesty!" a familiar voice exclaimed. It was Elder Mateo. I had no idea that the old man was with them. When I heard that, my chest clenched. That's a lie, I know! I know they're only making plans, but I can't help but be terrified. Just thinking about Alpha Greyson getting convinced by them gives me nightmares.

"What do you mean by that?" Alpha Greyson's voice is tense. My heart began to sting like crazy, so I clenched my fist.

"Please forgive me, your Majesty. I was only... considering the welfare of our kingdom... I didn't mean to say that," Elder Mateo apologized, and I gritted my teeth because I knew he intended it to make Alpha Greyson suspicious of the kid I was carrying! Fuck them!

"Watch your mouth before I cut your tongue right in front of my people," Alpha Greyson said more coldly before I heard them pass the wall where I was hiding, so I took a deep breath and made sure they were gone before coming out of hiding, and I quickly entered the library, where I saw Kylie, who looked nervous.

"Did something happen?" I'll inquire. She made a shaky motion with her head. "Nothing, your Majesty... but haven't you heard the news?" I scowled. News?

"What is it?" I'll ask.

"I heard it started in the housekeeper's hall and spread throughout the palace. They claimed to have been spread by a housekeeper who used to work with you! She claimed that she witnessed you surreptitiously meeting with Beta Miguel and that you two are still in a relationship and cheating on the Alpha King! They even speculate that the child you're carrying could not be Alpha Greyson's!" Kylie almost burst into tears as she told the story.

After hearing it, I became even more depressed. In that case... Beta Miguel and Elder Mateo had successfully carried out their plan.

"That's not true, Kylie; I've been loyal to Alpha Greyson ever since," I stated unequivocally.

"I have faith in you, Your Highness. But the majority of people in the palace look down on you!" she muttered uncomfortably. That's why, when I was summoned for dinner, I couldn't avoid the gaze of the people in the palace, especially the councilors I met. They bowed for me, but I knew their eyes were full of judgment.

When I noticed Alpha Greyson sitting in his usual spot, I froze. He rose up and drew a chair for me. I couldn't help but notice his movements. I knew he was aware of the news circulating throughout the palace, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking. I'm worried about what he might think.

"Let's eat," he urged. I began eating silently. When Beta Miguel entered the dining room, the stillness gave way to tension.

"Your Majesty, this is what you are asking me to get," Beta Miguel said, setting a bottle of wine on the table.

"I told you to give it to me after dinner," Alpha Greyson stated emphatically. I kept my gaze fixed on my food.

"Please forgive me, your Majesty... I thought—"

"Leave," Alpha Greyson cut him off. Beta Miguel departed the dining room without saying anything. Alpha Greyson's eyes shifted to mine, but I pretended nothing had happened.

"Are you okay?" he inquired. I raised my eyes to him. Alpha Greyson… do you believe them?

"I-I'm fine," I replied. He nodded and resumed eating. The silence was almost deafening. Even the servants and housekeepers were discreet in their service. Alpha Greyson and I entered the room together after dinner. While he walked inside the walk-in closet, I took a bath. He silently followed me to the bathroom after I finished. My chest feels constricted. He's been quiet for some time. I'm not sure what he's thinking.

I sat on the bed, sobbing uncontrollably. I can't continue to act like this with Alpha Greyson. I can't stay silent any longer. When I heard the restroom door open, I immediately wiped my tears. Alpha Greyson appeared in only his boxers. His body is screaming for power. Even in this situation, I can't stop drooling over his body!

When he discovered I was still sitting on the bed, he looked at me. When he neared, I swallowed hard. He knelt down to level my eyes.

When he saw the unshed tears in my eyes, he observed, "You cried..." I averted my gaze.

"Do you believe the news that is being told in the palace?" I questioned; my tone pained. I could hear him sigh deeply.

"I'm now investigating who spread that news, so you don't have to worry about that—"

"My question is, do you believe that news about me!" I said, my tone rising dramatically. He clenched his teeth. His eyes had turned frigid, and I couldn't help but feel the misery infecting my entire body.

"Of course not," he said after a moment. But why am I not convinced? Why? Why do I get the impression he doesn't trust me? Does he not believe me? In what I told him yesterday… didn't he believe it?

"I-I can't believe you're doubting me..." my voice trembled with pain. It stings. The fact that Beta Miguel is succeeding in his dark plans makes me even angrier!

"I'm not, Amara... we'll deal with the rumors once we figure out who spread them, and everything will be fine—"

"And you'll only believe me when you can prove it's not true? So, you don't believe me until you find out who spread it? Do you believe Elder Mateo more? Or Beta Miguel?" I spat the last name with disgust.

His brow furrowed, his jaw clenched, and I could tell he was upset with the situation.

"Then tell me... why were you hiding behind the wall earlier? For what purpose? Didn't you realize that wall was Beta Miguel's room?" I was taken aback by what he said. So... he knew I was there after all, and I know he could smell me, but what? That wall I was hiding behind earlier is... Beta Miguel's room?
