Chapter 15: Chapter 15
Chapter 13
I observed Mrs. Clea, who was agitated in front of me. Gina, Yna, and I are now in Mrs. Clea’s office. After what happened at the Alpha king's lunch, Mrs. Clea is obviously concerned.
But I can handle myself. I know it's dangerous to get close to Alpha Greyson. Maybe now he is planning how to torture me. I accept everything again. All I have to do is be strong until I find Shena.
"Mrs. Clea, I'm fine; you don't have to worry about it," I said to calm her down. She came to a halt and turned to face me. I couldn't see what was in her eyes, but I could tell she was worried about me.
"No, Amara, you don't know Alpha Greyson; he's...too much for you," Mrs. Clea expressed concern. I sighed deeply and bit my lower lip.
"Mrs. Clea how about we just make Amara run away now?” Gina suggested. I quickly shook my head at Gina. "Don't! If you do that, you will be the ones who will be punished! I can't let that happen, Gina!” I strongly refuse.
“But…Gina is right, Amara. You will be better saved if you stay away from the palace—”
"Mrs. Clea, I can't leave the palace!" I argued. Mrs. Clea was stunned. I looked away because I knew she knew why I was here. I knew Mrs. Vikki told her about my hidden agenda. Yna and Gina may not know, but Mrs. Clea does.
"Then...promise me...don't do anything that will endanger your life, Amara," Mrs. Clea said solemnly and emphatically. I nodded as I met her gaze.
"I will, Mrs. Clea," I said. She inhaled deeply. "Alpha Greyson has a very short temper. He doesn't accept mistakes and errors. If you make a mistake, you will surely be killed. You can't move him your tears. Your begging him won't work. He's heartless and cruel. And one more thing...he doesn't care if he hurts you, all he cares about is his desires and goals, do you understand, Amara?" Mrs. Clea preached.
"Do not disobey him, Amara, or you will die," she warned, making me swallow hard. I can already feel the fear rising in my chest because I know that things will not be easy from now on.
That's why, even though it was midnight, I couldn't help but go outside for some fresh air. Gina and Yna have already fallen asleep. I climbed a tree and sat on one of its branches. I can see the moon from here.
The moon shines brightly in the dark night. Suddenly, I felt my wolf wriggling inside me. I hush her down because I don't want her to go out now because I don't want to repeat what happened the other night. What if someone sees me? The wolves I saw that night didn't seem to be random.
That wolf has white fur and it was so amazing.
Because of the beautiful moon, I was no longer aware of my eyes closing and sleep engulfing me. When I woke up, I almost fell over when I saw that the bright sun had almost risen in the mountains!
“Shit!” I hissed and immediately dashed down the tree. Damn it! I'm late! At this time, Mrs. Clea always called the housekeepers to assemble at the Housekeeper Hall!
I dashed to the housekeeper's hall and almost took a deep breath when I arrived. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see the Alpha's guards inside!
What is going on?
When I saw Alpha Greyson ahead of me, my heart almost leaped out of my chest!
What is he doing here?!
"Where is she?" I heard him asking Mrs. Clea.
"W-We don't know, your Majesty. I looked for her in her room but she wasn't there, and her companions said she didn't sleep there," Mrs. Clea’s voice was filled with fear.
Why is Alpha Greyson here? And did I hear correctly? Is he looking for me?
"Miguel disperses the area, she may flee—"
"I will not dare to flee, your Majesty," I stepped forward and spoke quickly. All eyes are now focused on me. I bowed down to pay respect to the Alpha king. I was taken aback when, without saying anything, he grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the housekeeper’s hall!
Alpha Greyson has me dragged somewhere! Is this the end? Is he going to punish me? Can I really not save Shena?
He didn't stop pulling until we got to a room. If my memory serves me correctly, because of the large, golden chair at the far end and the long table that glistened like a diamond, it was the Alpha king's office.
When he turned to face me, I gasped. I bowed quickly because his blue eyes were too intense for me.
"Did you try to escape?" he asked accusingly. As he approached me, I swallowed hard and backed away. "I didn't your Majesty—"
"Where did you sleep?" he asked, suspiciously. I bit my lower lip, feeling his gaze shift on my lips. I let go quickly and bowed even more.
"I...went outside last night...in the forest...climbed the tree and didn't realize I fell asleep," I confessed. I also don't want to lie because I'll be completely obliterated if he discovers the truth.
I felt him withdrawing from his step. I breathed a sigh of relief when he turned his back on me and took a key from there. He turned to me again so I bowed again.
"I want you to clean this room thoroughly, and you will not stop until everything is clean," he said as he handed me the key. I nodded quickly.
"Leave," he said, and I began to walk away. I entered the room after a guard directed me there. A doorway appeared in front of me. Whose room is this? Because it's so large, I'm pretty sure it's not a guest room. I'm also fairly certain that this isn't Alpha Greyson's room.
I began cleaning the room, which was extremely exhausting due to its size. Is he certain I can clean it all by myself?
He really wants to torture me, doesn't he? I looked at the wall clock and saw that it was time for lunch. I can't leave without first cleaning everything up. It appears that I will not be able to eat lunch today.
I cleaned every nook and cranny. I discovered an interesting book while cleaning the room's bookshelf. It had to do with politics. I had no idea, but it piqued my interest. The book was enjoyable to read. It all comes down to how the kingdom functions in the hands of the Alpha king.
The Alpha king holds the highest position, followed by his heir or son, the Betas and Omegas, and the Elders and Councilors who oversee the kingdom's traditional cultures.
The North Snow kingdom is made up of two hundred Pack clans. Each pack clan also has its own Alpha. That means there are two hundred Alphas reporting to the Alpha king.
Pack clan…I didn't even know which pack clan I belonged to.
Maybe I fell asleep while reading the book because I was so tired. I only awoke because I felt like someone was watching me. When I saw Alpha Greyson sitting on one of the room's couches, staring at me sleeping over the bed, I slowly opened my eyes and my soul almost escaped my body!
I stood up quickly and straightened my back. When I felt more saliva next to my mouth, my cheeks became hot in embarrassment! Damn!
Did he notice it?
"Your Majesty, I'm sorry! I had no idea I had fallen asleep! But I assure you that the room is spotless on every corner!" I said quickly, standing and bowing in front of him.
"I see what you mean," he said coldly. I became even tenser. Is he going to punish me for sleeping in the bed?
"I apologize—"
"Are you reading something?" he inquired. I forced a hard swallow. I took a look at the book that was now on the bed.
"Y-Yes...your Majesty," I said, closing my eyes. I know it's wrong. I believe my own stupidity will destroy me.
"You said you were an orphan, and yet you know how to read?" he sarcastically asked. What he said astounded me.
I recall what Shena said when she discovered I could read. She advised me to conceal the fact if I wanted to be with her. I'm not sure why because I was young at the time, but Mrs. Vikki told me the truth.
The poor and orphans have no right to study in the North Snow kingdom. When you are in a difficult situation and discover that you can read, it proves espionage because it implies that you are hiding something.
Why would you hide your poverty when you can read? Your ability to read indicates that you are not poor, which suggests that you may be among the wealthy.
I tried to recall my memories from when I was ten years old and my parents were still alive. But something was hazy about it. I couldn't recall anything. My parents' smiles and laughter are the only things I remember about them. Apart from that, there is nothing. Even though their deaths are hazy to me, I was certain they were murdered by rogues because of how the investigators explained everything to me.
I also recall escaping the investigator's grasp because he promised to take me to his home and care for me since I no longer have parents. But when he tried to rape me, I ran away and found Shena.
I'm getting cold just thinking about it.
"I-I...don't...know your Majesty. Somehow...I know how to read," I shrugged. He rose and approached me. My heart began to race.
"Don't fool me. Tell me...do you really know your parents? Tell me...are you really from here?" he asked, making me shudder.
