Chapter 3: Chapter 3
I go home to my parents after my work. It almost night when I finally arrive and my parents are too excited for me. While we’re having a dinner my mom ask me about my work. I told them I never quit my job that I’m still in the same company with Martin and I told them that I was doing very fine. And they believe on me and I hope so. I change the topic and ask them what makes them busy this past week and my dad had a surprise look in my eyes.
“ your mom and I are planting some flowers and were really serious about it”. And my dad give my mom a sweetest smile.
“ wow! That’s so cool”. I said and I suddenly change the topic
“ Mom and Dad, I have something to tell, I start. I have a summer vacation in the Philippines this coming Friday and it was paid by my company. I continue. It’s just one week and I’ll be back soon I promise”. I said while looking in my parents eyes and suddenly they both smile with me.
“ wow, honey you’re grown up now”. My mom told me right away
“ what!, What do you guys thinking”? I ask them confused
“ well, your dad and I, are all wondering how to help you to move on”. Mom said and dad is agreed
“ I just think I need time to break to think about my life I guess, it’s been a terrible weeks for me and I want some place to think.” I confess and they both hug me just like how they hug me when I was a kid, and I really love it. My mom put the dishes to wash and I silently ask my dad
“ dad, how do you know that mom is the one you want to marry”? Dad was surprise but he smile and say
“ when I met your mom, I saw her smiling and right away I promised to myself that one day I will make her smile like that and I did. When I did, I make a promise again this time I promise to marry her and be with her until I get old.”
And I was so amazed how my parents loved each other. My parents married in March 22nd , 1974. In a church near our house. I remember how many times my dad told me this when I was a kid. It was a cold night when my dad propose to my mom in front of the church where they married. My dad invited my mom to attend a mass and after the mass when every people go home my father hold my mom’s hand and kneel in front of her. I asked my father why in front of the church he said that he wants to in be in God’s grace when doing his proposal. My mother cried that night because she never knew he will propose but still she said yes.
Every time I think about my father’s proposal I bring back my faith that true loves really exist. It’s just a matter of time and place I guess. I spend the rest of my night looking at my old pictures. My first picture when I had my first tooth, my first walk, my first dance with my dad, my first day in school, my first birthday, everything that my first my mom keeps it.And I fall asleep immediately.
I had a dream, I was walking alone and I keep my eyes open and see the sky so bright. The clouds are flying and make a shape of a heart I touch the ocean and feel the cold air that fly my hair and my dress. I walk again and see how beautiful the world, I fall into the ground and face the sun rays under my skin. I close my eyes and I fall asleep.
Next day, I wake up early and go to grocery store to buy some things that I need to travel. It almost a lunch time when I finish and I was almost to get back to the car when a familiar face came, it was Henry my grade school classmate. He grown up, he got a beard that I almost think he’s someone else. We had a small chat, asking about each other’s life. He’s married now to our classmates sister and they had a two kids now. I can say his happy now and content to his life. He ask me about myself and I just said I was just too busy about my job that I couldn’t make time to find a guy. I never said about Martin because I don’t want to talk about him. I bid goodbye to him and promise him that I will keep in touch with other classmates but I never did. Since graduation I never heard or talked with anyone in my classmates, maybe because we’re all too busy making our own lives. I went home right away to prefer our lunch with my parents and mom are getting ready to Cook and I assist her while dad is cleaning my car. It was a great family bonding and I really missed it. We had a lunch in my mom’s mini garden and it was so amazing because it was my first time having a lunch in a garden and my mom’s food are all so delicious. This moment is what I missed when you’re getting old and focusing only on your work and own life. I almost forget my family who were there with me since the beginning of my life. I almost forget that my parents are getting old now. We’re almost done taking our lunch when my mom start to speak.
“ Justine, honey you know we only want what’s the best for you. Right”? She said seriously while looking into my eyes and this time I look into her eyes too.
“ of course mom, I know how much you guys worried about me but I’m grown up and I was learning”. I said.
“ so, whatever you do, whatever you choose. We’re always here with you and were always love you, okay”? Mom said with tears and dad smile at me.
Remember when I said that “the next best feeling in this world is having a Best friend like Melissa. Well, the best feeling in this world is having a family who understands you and accept your decisions no matter what just like my parents.
I travel back to Oregon next day and I was getting ready for my flight tomorrow. I pack my things, I brought more dress, some swim wear, a slipper, my new toothbrush with toothpaste and some lotion for the sun. Everything is set for my travel tomorrow and I spend the night thinking about my vacation plan.
Travel time, I call my parents to say goodbye and tell them I will buy them something when I get back and I call a taxi to get me to the airport and before I ride on the plane I call Melissa to say goodbye and she bid goodbye to me with a hug and kisses on the phone and told me to enjoy the vacation. It was a lovely flight, a one way flight to the Philippines and I spend most of my time sleeping. I eat some foods but the rest is sleeping. It was 9 in the morning when my airplane arrive at Manila the Capital city of the Philippines and I immediately ask an airport staff where the nearest and most beautiful beach and he told me that he was not from this city so he refer me to his province Cebu and I immediately run to teller booth to ask for a flight right away to Cebu. Luckily Cebu is the most visiting province in the Philippines that time and I got a ticket right away and I ride a plane again for second time to fly to Cebu. It’s almost a two hours of flight and I excitedly get out of the airport to find a nearest hotel.
