Chapter 78: Chapter 78

**Cassie’s POV**

Well, at least they are getting closer. Now it reminds me of how close they were back then. I mean, my mates, Kaiden and Damon, I can see them that way, like they are long-lost brothers, and that's amazing to me, to be honest.

Now I let them bond. My son, too, is enjoying their company, so I have no problem with that. Now I am preparing for our lunch because it will not be too long.

While chopping some onions, I saw Damon coming here into the kitchen with the plates and utensils they use. Art brought some pastries; that is why.

"Put those on the sink; I will wash the dishes later," I said to him with a smile on my face.

"How could I? You are the Luna; I can't let you do some work; it will be embarrassing to the memory of the late Alpha," he said while starting to wash the dishes. This guy never changes his principles in life. I know that he is still loyal to my mate.

"I am so thankful that you stood with my mate until his last breath; I wish I was too; maybe I will have less regret if that is the scenario," I said to Damon while frying some garlic and herbs. "And by the way, don't call me Luna here, Dax and Derek would find it weird. They don't know who we are, and I want them to stay away from our chaotic world," I reminded him.

"Oh, I am mistaken; I thought they were your lovers," he said, instantly making me blush.

"Of course not! How could I? Kaiden is still the one, and no one will ever change and compete for my heart," I said to him. Damon should understand that I am not here to fall in love, but I want some peace, which is difficult to achieve anymore because that sneaky bastard named Damon manages to know our whereabouts.

"Alpha Kaiden will not be mad if you start to fall again for someone else, as long as you are happy. I know his last words and wishes; he said that he will support you as long as he is the one you will fall in love with in the afterlife. Damon said that, which made me stop until I realized that I was crying. I almost burned our lunch!

"I don't want to talk about it again for now. I still believe that I cannot dare to replace him in my heart; no one could ever be." That is a hell of an emotional conversation. It just freshens up the wounds. I thought it was completely healed, but I was mistaken.

At least they love my chicken casserole. I enjoyed the way they enjoyed our lunch. Derek is talking to Damon like they are so close; that was fast! I never thought that Derek and Dax would be this social with Damon. Something is weird, but it is in a good way.

"Are you planning on staying here?" Derek asked Damon. And I think it is a very genuine question.

Damon looks like he is thinking deeply about Derek’s question. I am also curious about his answer. Of course, he is always welcome here. The door is open for every kind of pack member.

"I am not certain. When I came here, I just wanted to send the news to our Luna, I mean Cassie because she is not familiar anymore with what is happening in Blue, I mean in Clayland." Damon doesn't know how to get a break from his words. He almost spilled the milk!

"I see. Do you have a place to stay? I can share a spare apartment with you. I can also give you some work," Derek said, and I appreciate his kindness.

"Really?! That is awesome. I badly need a place to stay here; it is embarrassing to be a bother to Cassie," he said.

"Damon, you are not a bother. You are always welcome here because I can see you as my friend and brother." I reassure him that he is not someone he thinks he is.

"Thanks for the understanding. Ah, Derek, about the work: I am already employed by Cassie's boss, so I will start working there," he said. Yeah, Derek's offer is a bit too late since Dale gives his heads up for giving Damon a work on the company.

"That damn Dale is very fast," Derek muttered.

"Language," I warned him because Charlie is still here with us. He shut up and said sorry. I nodded to accept his apology.

Evening came, and Damon planned to go to the apartment that Derek was sparing him. It is not that far, so he can go here from time to time since he vows to protect me and my son. It is not his obligation, and I didn't oblige him to do so, but he swears with his friend's graveyard, which is my mate, to protect me and my son. They know that we are the last hope for the Blue Moon Pack.

Before Damon left, he asked me something that made me a little bit confused.

"Cassie, are you certain that those two men are humans? They have the scent of humans, but something is weird. When we shake hands, I can feel their strong grip, when in fact I am much stronger than they supposedly are. I am not as strong as before because my body deteriorated, but they are still both weirdly strong." I can see what he is pointing out.

"I know that something is unusual. To be honest, when I first met them, they had a weak presence; they have weaker bodies compared to me. But I can also notice that as time goes by, they are changing drastically," I said to him. I am also trying to ignore this because it is so unusual for them to change; no human can change so fast like this.

"Then I shall look at them closely; I will not let them do something weird. They look kind, but prevention is better than cure." I also have no plans to cross the line even more.
