Chapter 70: Chapter 70
**Cassie's Point of View**
THE NEXT DAY is my last day working for him. Angel is so preoccupied that she simply emailed her resignation letter, and she has lost interest in our boss, or should I say soon-to-be ex-boss.
I'm not sure if I've crossed the line yet, but one thing is certain: even though I despise Derek, there is something about him that makes me feel empty, so empty.
I haven't been able to understand myself very well since meeting my boss and my son's teacher. I assumed that moving on and enjoying the rest of my life calmly would be simple. However, this is not the case.
While strolling down the corridor, some of the employees gave me strange looks, possibly because I wasn't wearing my uniform. I'm so unattractive right now, but it doesn't matter. I have no intention of working for this company. I'm aware, and I'll face the repercussions later, but I don't mind at all right now.
"YOU'RE LATE!" Is this even possible? Are you completely insane? "Angel just left and left a message for me with a damn email containing her letter, giving up her job that easily," greeted my boss, who looked as enraged as ever.
I groaned and placed another note on his table. I can see his incredulity written on the window of his soul as I look directly into his eyes.
"Are you kidding me?" He said, awkwardly chuckling. I gave him a small smile as I shook my head.
"I'm not kidding; I'm serious." I simply wanted to express my gratitude for the brief time I've spent with you. I shall treasure those memories, but I believe that this environment is no longer assisting me in my growth. Still, I am overjoyed, and this is my resignation letter." In regards to him, I do not wish to send him my letter by email.
"I will not let you go so easily, no, I will not give up on you!" He said as if he were a recalcitrant child. I've made my choice! And I made the decision to leave and move on!
"I am determined, you can't stop me, so please don't try to do anything that will make me angry." If it isn't evident, I am quite serious right now. "That's all there is to it; that's why I'm here." Please pardon me now. "I am willing and so is Angel to train whoever you choose to replace us," I told him. And began to walk away, but he grabbed my hand and drew me closer.
I took such a big sip that I thought I'd swallow my tongue. I can't even look in his eyes because I'm under so much pressure. I can't explain or even find out why my heartbeat is so fast it feels like it's about to burst and run out of my rib cage.
"Please let me go!" I attempted to fight him, but he was too powerful. That even I, a werewolf with unparalleled strength in comparison to this person, can't break free from his clutches. Why is he so powerful?
"Is this about kissing that girl in the elevator?" I've already explained it; what else need I say to show you that I didn't aim to upset or disappoint you? "I fired that girl, and she is not allowed to come near me again." I flinched at how strong his remarks were.
"Who said I was hurt?" I'm fine, you're free, a single man, a bachelor with a life to cherish. In the same way that you should appreciate your time and effort. I'm just a Secretary, someone you've only known for a few months; it doesn't make sense that you're still wasting your time and effort on someone like me. I am a single mother, Derek, and I cannot fit into your life or everything you have. Derek, I believe someone far greater than me will be with you in the future." I'm pushing him away, but why does just saying those words hurt so deeply?
"I'll let you go for now, but that doesn't mean I'll stop chasing you." "I will show you what you meant to me," he promised, and I almost believed him again, but then I remembered who he is. He'll never be serious about someone like me. There are more qualified applicants than I.
"Don't waste your time." I left that office, and I can finally breathe, yet I touch my chest absentmindedly because it feels heavy and painful.
"No, Cassie, you simply made the correct decision. It is the better option." For me to get out of the circumstance before I fall deeper in love, which I do not desire. He is a human, and people don't know how to be loyal, therefore I can't put my trust in anyone.
I left the company and went straight to a neighboring park. I had no idea that someone I knew was there. What brings Dax here? Isn't he supposed to be at school?
“Dax? What brings you here?" I inquired, a little anxious, and he snapped from deep thought and smiled again.
“Pardon? "I didn't notice you," he said.
"I can lend you my ears, Dax; it appears that you are thinking deeply; can I assist you?"''He is a nice friend, and I believe it is acceptable to be close to him; he appears to be a huge soft type of guy.
"It's not a big deal, but how about you?" Shouldn't you be working? I just got out of school, classes are now halted, your son, Charlie, go get him." I knew it. But I'm more concerned and intrigued by his opinions.
AFTER a week of suffering from loneliness for an unknown reason, as well as restless nights due to the pain painted on his face. I can't seem to get that memory out of my head. Derek looked at me as I walked away the last time I left him. It seems like the day I lost my friend.
And that sounds ridiculous since nothing compares to the grief I felt the day I lost Kaiden.
And now when I thought my wolf soul was gone, I can hear her whining every now and again as I recall my ex-boss.
RIGHT NOW, I'm traveling alone in a large wilderness. I'm enveloped by thick fog, and the chilling wind has a numbing effect on my skin.
When I go to the woodland portion, there are no trees, just a plain field of green grass, and the sky is gray, which makes this scene even sadder and gloomier, and I feel like I can't breathe properly.
I noticed a man sitting on a large block of stone, facing in the opposite direction, but I know who he is.
“Kaiden?" I mumbled, scarcely hearing my voice stutter.
"Hey, it's been a while, the love of my life is here," he said, with the same smile that cleared the fog and allowed me to sprint towards him. I attempted to hug him, but I couldn't. I can't touch him because he feels like wind.
"I want to embrace you too, Cassie, I really do," he replied, "but maybe another time and circumstance will allow us to hold hands." I tightened my teeth and formed a fist.
"This is really unjust! Why must it be you? All of those nasty people, all of those creatures who don't deserve to live on this earth! Why? Why are you such a good mate and father to our son?" I murmured as tears streamed down my cheeks. Again, I felt as if my wound had suddenly become larger.
"Love, you know I despise watching you weep. Please, don't be sad; there is always a purpose for everything that is happening, will happen, and has happened in the past, please," Kaiden tried to console me, and his voice is enough cause for me to relax.
"I can't touch, hug, or kiss you even if I wanted to." I'm not sure if I should continue to believe in our Goddess. I can't give Her my faith as much as I can when you're still with me." I'm well aware that I shouldn't say this, but the anguish of losing my companion is enough to transform my heart and head in this way.
He shook his head and smiled weakly. "Don't be that way. My death should not be used to break your faith. She remains our light, our guidance, and our only way forward. "On behalf of our Goddess, I can only promise that we will meet again, and if that time comes, happiness will be on us," he stated.
But just as I was about to touch his face for the last time, he fades away, and someone replaces him, and it's none other than Derek.
That's how I awoke from my dream. I gasped, I was drenched in perspiration, and I can't say that it was unpleasant, but why is he in my dream? What exactly does that mean?
I shook my head and went about my morning ritual. I've been out of work for a few days, but I got a call yesterday, and today is my first day at my new position. Because I am in the same position, I believe I will make just minor alterations.
"Charlie, wake up," I said to my son, tickling him. He laughed and gently got out of bed. "It is too early, Mom," he remarked. That's why I don't enjoy Charlie staying up late.
"Son, please stop staying up late at night, okay?" Do your assignment a little earlier, and give yourself ample time to sleep and rest." Even if we are nocturnal, I suppose we must adjust to this type of human life. That is something we must do.
He nodded, but I know he inherited his father's genes. He was going to be the next alpha, but we departed, and everything is supposed to change from then on.
I shower and take a fast good bath before dressing and letting my son do his thing. Charlie is growing so quickly. In a year, he will grow taller, stronger, and much more self-sufficient.
I sent him to school after we finished our breakfast, and I've noticed that he occasionally inquires about Derek.
I know they formed a bond before that event happened between me and Derek, and they were so close that sometimes Charlie asks about him, but I can't give him a fair reason because Derek suddenly stopped contacting me.
Doesn't that sound pitiful? I am the lone reason and the lady who drove him away and made him promise never to speak to me again. But I can see how that made it easier for me to go forward rather than wishing for a little hope.
He never contacted me again, and he never approached me. There was something inside of me that hoped he would chase me, but that didn't happen.
Anyway, let's get back to business. I arrived at the new workplace in search of a fresh start. As I began to step inside, I was met by a smiling guard. Angel started a few weeks ago and is currently running errands at another branch, so she is not present.
It would be a complete lie to suggest that I am not concerned. Despite being a fully committed werewolf, I'm sure I look as pale as a vampire.
But it's now or never, live or perish. This is preferable to nothing. I hope my new employer is far superior to Derek, but I learned my lesson the hard way, and now I know where to draw the line.
I enter the elevator while seeking Kaiden's advice. Isn't it amusing? I'm not even afraid to fight some shady rogues, but here I am, almost fainting because I'm about to meet my new boss in a minute or two.
The elevator door opens, and I go out to meet my new employer. I am well-versed in the location of his office.
I knocked first, and when he responded, "Come in," I went in. But as I stepped onto the floor and smelled the familiar perfume, I became wary.
I can feel my eyes changing colors and my nails showing claws, and while I am aware that we are not the only non-human beings in Claybourne City, someone like this werewolf gentleman in front of me may pose a threat, and worst case scenario, he knows my brother-in-law.
"Interesting, another werewolf in the city... Don't be like that, aren't you glad someone like you, and soon-to-be your boss, is here?" Dale replied. Dale is the name of my new boss.
"I don't trust people easily." With your stench, you could be a werewolf, but how can I be sure? "And even if you are, that doesn't guarantee anything that isn't a threat," I answered, glaring at him.
He slashed his wrist, and blood poured from it. The smell of blood lingers in the air, and it's incredible how it calmed me down.
"What are you up to?" I inquired. Because whatever he's doing right now has rendered me helpless.
"This is my present. Every werewolf hybrid has a special ability. "I'm a half-vampire, by the way," he said casually. That made me much more aware. Werewolves and vampires are mortal adversaries, and this is not a myth. Because that is what we are.
"Are you some sort of taboo?" I inquired.
"That's a stupid question; do you think I'll hide in a human city if being a hybrid isn't forbidden at all?" He made a valid point.
In his huge office, I sat on the sofa. I think he's someone I can trust for a while, but that doesn't change the fact that I should keep an eye on him.
"Tell me, what are your plans now that you've discovered your new boss is a hybrid?" He inquired as if it were a question of life and death.
"I'll stay and work here," I declared emphatically. I had heard of such presents before, but I assumed it was just a rumor.
Two separate creatures mated, and their kids are guaranteed to have a gift. Exactly like his... Dale's gift is all about the smell of blood.
“Why?" he inquired again, his tone malicious. "You already know that I know you can't trust me."
"You gave me another reason to stay, that's the thing." "I felt the need to keep an eye on you because you are dangerous enough, and I cannot simply let someone like you roam around this city," I warned him.
"Oh." He pretended to be astonished. "But I've been wandering this city for far too long," I realized.
"You are now Angel's boss." She still has no idea about otherworldly entities like us. I can't leave her here alone with someone like you. You will pay the price if something happens to her." I promise to whoever he is praying to.
"I'm sucking blood and eating humans just because I'm a half-vampire." I am a cross! I can also satiate my bloodthirst by feeding on my werewolf nature." I still don't trust him.
"This is a lot of information, but I'm going to start my job right here right now," I declared emphatically.
"OK, this is a win-win situation. "I have a secretary, and you are watching me." I get the impression that, despite his clownish demeanor, he is quite intelligent.
He began talking about my job responsibilities. Although I am aware that he should not do so because he is the CEO!
"Why aren't you on fire?" I asked him as he was describing some of my work tasks.
"Unbelievable, I am talking about this and that, but your thoughts are away, drifting away," he continued as I mocked him.
"I'm listening to you, I'm just curious," I said to him. I do pay attention!
"All right, I'm half-werewolf. My other half breaks the curse that makes vampires vulnerable to sunlight. As you can see, even though I shall dance in broad sunshine, I do not burn. But I can still feel very weak when compared to the dark time of day, when I can be extremely strong, especially at full moon," he stated proudly.
"I see, I hope you are telling the truth that you are better than I expected," I said to him.
"How come you sound more like a boss than I do?" He sulked like a child.
"Act like a boss, even if it's impossible." This will not work for me.
"OK, but seriously, you can trust me, but not others." Because this city is so large, other entities live here, waiting for an opportunity to attack like predators. Be cautious of your surroundings. Do you understand the survival rule?" I am aware that I must eat or be eaten.
