**Cassie’s Pov**

I blinked my eyes and was embarrassed about being emotional at the wrong place and time.

I tried to take my handkerchief from my pants, but my boss gave me his. I hurriedly wiped my tears and gave him an apologetic smile.

"I am so sorry; that is so embarrassing. I suddenly miss my husband; it has not been that long since I lost him," I said to him.

"I am sorry for your loss." I shook my head and stood from the chair. "I will go back to my paperwork if you will excuse me. Do you need anything, sir?" I tried to ask him. Maybe he has worked for me, not just because of that coffee.

He gestures no, so I excuse myself and go straight to my table. No matter how I imagine what I have done in front of my boss, that is damn embarrassing.

I bit my lips and sighed. I want a normal life now, and I am slowly doing it. I hope Kaiden will guide me from now on. If he is somewhere now, I hope he is still looking for us and watching us there.

I started to continue organizing these documents, and after a few more hours, I am finally done.

I massaged my shoulder since I felt a little stiff there. I can't help but notice that ever since I became mateless, I can feel that I am not as strong as before.

Not that weak, but since I felt that I lost my connection to my mate, it has been a whole new, drastic change.

My dad said this thing to me in advance, but I can't get used to it as of now. Maybe for the next few months or years, but I doubt that I will feel better now.

"Hey, let's take a break. It is already time for our lunch." Angel called my attention. She wants to treat me because of my new job, but I am too ashamed because she has been properly taking care of me ever since I met this big city. I have no audacity to bother her more.

"You don't have to treat me. You've helped me a lot since day one; I can't accept it more."

She winked. "It's a treat from our boss. I want to keep it a secret, but I think you are not fond of surprises. Everyone is waiting for us there." I was shocked, but I think being surprised has no use because, as I heard, Mr. Derek Ross is a little bit good in terms of giving bonuses and gifts to his hard-working employees.

I think, except for the fact that he is a little bit of a womanizer, based on Angel, he is a kind man. But I also think that I have no reason to be close to him. So I will set my boundaries. I do not want to fall for his charm, but I bet not.

"Do you find our boss a handsome guy? I wish you were not thinking of him as a prince charming. Because he is far from that kind of man. If you can see his true nature," From her words, it seems that she despises our boss.

"No, maybe he is handsome, but I know lots of good-looking men. He is not somewhat extraordinary." I am just stating the facts.

Her eyes bulged at what I had just said. "For real?"

I took my phone; yes, I have one, but it is not brand new. It was a gift from Kaiden before; I remember that was the evening of the New Year.

I showed the picture to Angel, and her mouth fell to the floor as she saw my late husband's picture.

"I can see. No one can compete with your husband's feature!" And I am proud of it no matter what.

"I did not fall in love with him because of his looks. But because he has been everything to me ever since we were childhood best friends, It is a miracle that my supposedly one-sided love is not one-sided. It is such a plot twist that we became lovers, but it is so early for him to leave us."

She hugged me, although we were basically on the elevator. "I am so sorry that I brought it up."

"It is okay; in the first place, I have to move forward. I still have a son that needs me even more."

"Of course."

We entered a very fancy and classy restaurant. It smells so good inside, like meat and herbs. If only I could...

No, I should stop thinking about what-ifs now.

Angel guided me inside the private room, where a table with lots of food is set up, and there are familiar officemates that I can see here.

And I am a bit surprised that my boss is here. I thought he was the type of man who would not waste his time on this kind of occasion. But I heard that he was the one who insisted this happen. And I am wishing that he was not doing this out of pity when he saw me crying.

"You are here!" It is the reaction of my other coworkers.

"Thank you for making this happen. I do not know what to say. Thank you, boss!"

"It is a tradition. It has been a while since we greeted and welcomed a new employee." I nodded.

And even though I have a low appetite now, I can't stop drooling over how tasty all the food served on the table is.

The beefy steak tastes like heaven, and everything tastes divine. I am a bit guilty because I want to share all of this food with my son too.

"We can pack something for Charlie," Angel said to me. Maybe she noticed that I stopped eating my food.

"Charlie?" My boss asked.

"That is the name of my son, Sir Derek."

He nodded. "Maybe he looks handsome too, he surely is."
