Chapter 54: Chapter 54

The outside is getting darker and colder and the palace guards have been searching the forest for some time now to no avail. They have no other choices than to give up in the search because they can barely see where they step their feet.

After taking this conclusion with so much resistance they run back to the palace with two empty horses to announce the sad news knowing fully well that their life is at stake.

Maryline on the other hand is standing in the compound worried sick as she watches the sky getting darker but Eve and the guards ain't back, yet. She gets thoughtful and queasy "Moon Goddess help them, help Eve, please" she prays endlessly.

While Edmonton has been locked in his office since he came back, absorbed into his researchers as he reads many books at the time like he was looking for something. So he has no idea that Eve is out of the palace worst at this time of the night. He knows Maryline isn't dumb to let such a thing happen.

He believes that Eve is surely somewhere around the palace, as usual, and Maryline, preparing for Eve's presentations ceremony which is going to take place tomorrow as concluded with Maryline.

With all this Edmonton has no reason to leave his office any type me some except for extreme cases. And, Maryline is so scared about his reaction that she can't inform him about the happenings. She prefers to solve everything out by herself.

After all, she's already stressed enough to augment Edmonton on her back.

• • • Eve's POV • • •

"This way young girls." the beautiful lady redirected and we move into a very dark corridor that seems to have no end. We're moving straight as robots without any means to distinguish or recognise anything because places are completely obscure.

This is when my legs begin to throb at every footstep that I make and my stomach grumbles making me feel very uncomfortable. I want to cry right now but if I do Matilda will be more worried, after all she warned me. How could I be this dumb. I hit my face as my heart starts pounding in fear.

"Is this the path to hell?" cried Matilda "I always believed that I will have more time to say goodbye to my family." her shoulders slump helplessly as she speaks.

"It was a mistake following you. We want to leave this place, now!" I order and at same time wishing she could see my face right now; I'm hungry, thirsty, anxious and ready to battle for freedom.

"Unfortunately Eve, you don't give orders here. You will only leave once we are done with you" she says with so much carelessness in her voice that it makes me sick.

I frown, unfortunately, she can't see my face, places are dark. I attempt shifting into my wolf in vain. I keep trying.

"We, who?. Who are the "we" she's are talking about, Eve?. What the hell have you gotten me into?!. I told you this was a very bad idea but no, you never listen." she reprimands me as if it's the right time for all this. She isn't herself anymore. Anxiety is slowly eating her up.

"Oh, Daddy... My Father is surely searching for me... Eve Elite, if we get out of this place alive. I will kill you!" she screamed and the echoes of her voice resonates in the room and it sounds damn creepy with the darkness engulfing us.

"Why have you done you which?" I scream after trying to shift in vain. "You can't shift in this room. You will understand soon" she sounds pleased in her voice.

"Just hold on a few more seconds and don't stop walking." she adds while pushes us. "Ah..." we scream with our eyes closed as we stumble into space. Anyway, that is what we thought.

When we open our eyes we find ourselves in another room.

"Omg, what the hell is wrong with this woman." Matilda pouts. "At least, there is light here" I mumble while scrutinising places.

This room has a throne and the throne is facing the wall opposite to us. So we can't see who is seated on it. Perhaps it's empty, I told myself.

The throne rolls around to face us. "Welcome, Eve of Eden and Matilda of...?" the old woman seated on the throne asks herself thoughtful, "Of nothing... haha..." then she ends with laughter as she retorts sarcastically.

She and the young lady laugh while Matilda and I are dumbfounded. The woman looks so old and depleted that I feel sorry for her when she laughs. What if she has an attack because of to much emotion and dies?...

"My bad, young girls I thought a little sarcasm will make you relax but as I can see, I was wrong. What if you both taste my magical sweet that give joy?" she asks.

"Thank you, ma'am, I passe. But I seriously don't know about Eve maybe she wants some of it" Matilda seriously pouts with nasty looks at me. If only looks could kill I would have been underground by now.

"Hey, are you crazy?" I hit her waist. "Of course I am. Can't you see it?" she murmurs. "Just relax I will find a way of this place, I promise."

"Eve, don't promise what you can't do. It will just make me want to kill you, more." she murmurs then flings her stare away. Wow! she gives me some goosebumps.

"Come here young girl, and let make this quick I need to rest" the old woman's cranky voice interrupts. I move close to her with shivering legs.

"Don't be scared, I'm not your enemy. I eat with the gods and their angels, I do their will, I hurt no good soul, I'm a mediator of the gods, their blood flows in me and so do you." she looks very serious and all she said sounded crucial.

"Meaning?" words honestly escape my mind.

"As your great, great, great, great, etc, grandmother, you have my blood running in your veins." she replies.

"Really!" I'm astonish. "Why should she believes you?" Matilda got apprehensive.

"Matilda is right, why should I believe you?. Why didn't you come to the palace to tell me all this?" I get agitated.

"With time you will." the old woman retorts. "Yea, good answer, haha... but time is what I don't have. I need to leave this place now." Matilda lets out sarcastically.

"A bit of respect she's an old woman" the beautiful lady interrupts her but you all know Matilda, she gives a damn.

Matilda turns to the beautiful lady frowning "Perhaps if I wasn't here out of my will all this won't have been happening," she grumbles

"Let me count you a short story" the old woman's voice calls back our attention to her.

"Many years ago, after witnessing the sufferings of humans a very gorgeous, kind lady help a very brilliant witch to create a portal as instructed by the gods. This portal separates the humans from werewolf to avoid the instinct of species."

"The karat gate" I murmur as she explains. "Which gate is that?" Matilda whispers back.

"Today, someone is trying to cast the spell over the gate. If he/she succeeds this will lead to great disaster. Your mission is to find the person and stop them. We recently felt external attacks on the gate but a few days ago we felt a great unusual disruption in the human world and wolves living there had their powers for a few seconds, luckily...."

"Adam!" I exclaim as she speaks.

"We have to do something quickly before it's too late." she ends.

"Why me?. I don't have what it takes to fight such a person and I seriously hope you aren't expecting me to risk my life for your issues." I wave my hands and eyes recklessly.

"You are a decadence of the gods, you have their blood in your vein and the Gods will come into your rescue in times of extreme hardship henceforth." she expands.

"Hell, no. Where were the gods all this while; when I was born a girl, when dad was maltreating me, when I was forced into a marriage, captured, etc?" I recite furiously.

"Young girl, whether you like it or not your life will soon change drastically. Perhaps by then thing will become clearer and you will better understand. I hope I will still be around to help you."

"Exactly, I don't want my life to change now that I'm trying to get along." I cry but she clearly doesn't give a fuck.

"All this is crazy, I would have really loved to stay and listen to all these ancient myths. Unfortunately, I have to leave and give space to the decedents of the gods to discuss amongst themselves. Omg, I don't even know what I'm doing here?" she's anxious yet she sounds relieved.

"Young girl, destiny brought you both together and only destiny shall decide on your fate; when you come or leave. I have no power over that and so not you." the old woman replies.

Matilda is more confused now. Her mouth open and eyes widen "What did all that parable mean?" she asks then she answers herself.

"Sincerely, I don't want to know. You and your gods should not place your trust in me. I'm the wrong person to give responsibilities to. I'm not as prone as Eve. The last time my mum asked me to look over my junior brother he got missed 25times in just a day. Haha, can you imagine that?" she gets nervous.

"Save your strength to save the world, girl. You can't run away from the gods call." she replies

"Oh, yea I can and I will as soon as I get out of this place." she speaks too fast and she hits her face because she regrets it.

"Take this stone and hit it three-time if you are in trouble, Aldine, the beautiful damsel here will appear" she hands over the stone to me.

"Now, go!." she yells while flinging her hand by the side and a magical portal appears. "I have many questions, who was the lady working with the brilliant magicians to create the door? What's your name?... etc" I ask several questions.

"I'm the lady!. Now leave" she screams still with her hand up maintaining the portal open.

Matilda is already by the portal. What if it's a trap. Anyway, it's too late to say anything when she has already fallen into it. She didn't even waited for me. I simply follow her.

As I move into the portal I keep descending like down ground level "Ooooouuuuaahhh..." I scream... I'm up side down and it's damn freaking. The ground walls are getting close to each other to scrape me in.

I scream louder in vain no one can hear me.
