Chapter 46: Chapter 46
• • Eve, Elite POV • •
The morning sun has barely surfaced, when Adams gets up to park his things. After parking and dressing, he then comes to my bedside, caresses my hair and he gives me a kiss on my forehead and leaves.
Suddenly, I shudder out of sleep like I had just had a bad dream in which Adams was leaving without me. I quickly move out of bed, and browse my eyes around the room and he's nowhere to be found. This makes me anxious. I notice that breakfast was served and was eaten already. I hurry out of the room, check the corridors leading to the compound like a mad dog.
I arrive the compound just when he's about moving out of the gate and I scream so loud like I was the only one around. "I can't believe you are doing this to me" He instantly stops at the sound of my voice, then he moves backward with hesitation.
"I thought we were leaving together." I stroll towards him.
"Eve, you made it clear that you need time and space. And this is exactly what I'm giving you; your space and I seriously think it's the best thing to do. Let's use this time to think about our future together, wedding. Since you are not sure, I don't want to push you into taking decisions that might prove fatal tomorrow. I don't want to force you to do anything." he seriously, explains.
"I know what I want now, Adams."
"That's nice, but I think this distancing is still necessary. I will be gone for a week only. So use this time for yourself and I will do same." with this said, he turns to leave.
"This is not fair." I frown and I run to my room. Adams want to follow her but he leaves instead.
"Where the hell are all the maids in this palace?." the king moves out of his room yelling with a towel tied arrow his fat round belly "My King." a maid bypassing the corridor rushed to him.
"Get me some hot water, the one in my room is damn cold. Do it quick. Hey come back,-- also get me breakfast." he adds, the maid exits immediately.
"A set of very lazy people. Things around here will change when my son gets the throne." he moves into his room, angry.
I rush back into Adams room and fall flat on the bed. Maryline come searching for me for our daily routines but she doesn't find me in my room and she becomes worried.
She remembers and she rushes to Adams room, knocking on the door, "Get in." I retort with my face wrapped in the bedsheet thinking that it was a maid who came to clean.
"You got me worried, I have been searching for you." Maryline's voice would have made me shudder but I remained on the same spot, with the bed sheet covering my face.
"It's time to go for your bath." she moves closer, yet I remain there like no one is talking. "Is anything wrong with you Eve?" she sits on the bed, then she tries to take the bed sheet but I flinch. She keeps insisting until she takes it off me "Why are you crying?. Where is Adams?" she yells in fury.
"He's gone." I fling my face away wiping my tears off. It's silly crying like this over him, this is what I keep telling myself, but the tears keep listening to my heart and my emotions are all over the place.
"Come here, my baby!" she takes me into her arms "You don't have to cry, he's going to come back, don't forget you both have a wedding ceremony awaiting you."
"I hope so," I murmur. "Why only hoping, don't you remember how the king had been insisting on this damn wedding?".
"I doubt if Adams is on the same page as his father. He's been acting weird towards me since I made my speech. He spent the whole night without saying a word to me and today he left without saying goodbye?"
"Girl, why didn't you tell me all this earlier I feel stupid now, I practically forced you to come have dinner with him. How could I be so careless not to notice your worries? I'm sorry." she feels guilty.
"When I approached him he said, why didn't I inform him? Just for this, it's clear that he is so pissed at me." I lean on her shoulders.
"Oh, don't worry, he's just being a man, you mounted that stage without discussing it with him, he surely felt like you were putting his virility into question, you not being open to him was not a good idea. Atleast you would have hint him. He just felt overpowered. You know men and their ego. Still don't worry, he will get over it." she cuddles my hair.
"I hope so!" I murmur.
"Don't stay here and lament, he will surely come back. Get up! Get up, it's time for your bath." she rushes me to my room.
A few hours later, we are standing in the compound, Maryline, Uncle Edmonton and I.
"Stupid, Adams." the king murmurs to himself as he mount his horse. "I hope to see you soon princess, Eve." the king says with an evil smile, then he strike his horse and leaves with his warriors.
While Matilda manages to pass through the main gate of the palace. She's so rapid like a flash, that no one noticed her. She hides behind a building.
The King left and the gates of the palace are sealed. Everyone moves in while I stand out gazing at the sky for a while. As I turn to leave, I hear a sound like that of a bird, but it's too weird to be a bird, I turn immediately and It's Matilda, she's waving at me.
I move to her with quick steps. "How did you get in? I wonder aloud "Does it matter? Aren't you happy to see your friend, so you don't miss me?" she gets silly and she hugs me tightly "because I'm happy to see you and I have to confess, your speech was phenomenal. Wow, I didn't know you had the balls." she speaks none stop like a parrot.
"I got no balls girl, I got the eggs." I retort sarcastically. "You got me there." we both laugh.
Then we hear this crazy voice filled with anger which interrupts our laughter "Young, girl what are you doing here? I thought I made it clear, the last time we spoke?" Maryline interrupts with a bitter look fixed on matilda that it gives me some goosebumps.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am," Matilda replies with a trembling voice. "Maryline, we won't do something stupid this time, please. I promise. I'm too bored in this palace and you know I need company."
"What if she takes you to another exciting but very stupid adventure and this time you get killed?" she scolds. "She won't! We won't isn't it Matilda?" I roll my face to her "Of course, Yes!" she nods, seriously.
"I hope so!. And you, I'm watching you." she moves two fingers from her eyes and points it at Matilda with a furious look that sends frozen chills down the young girl's spine. With this said she leaves.
"Wow, this woman freaks me out." she puffs in relief as she watch Maryline fades away. "Don't mind her, she's just being overprotective." I grin.
"Extremely over protective you mean, - the last time we had an encounter, she was damn severe, - I nearly lost my fingers. She was ready to chop them off." she freaks out.
"Trust me, Maryline will never do such a thing." and I laugh. "That is what you think, you didn't see what I saw!" she murmurs, seriously.
"Enough about me, how was your Kidnapping, did you meet a nice sexy prince charming?" she start jumping on her feet like a ball. "Tell me more?" she insists.
"Okay, okay. The first days were hell, no food, no drinks, I saw myself deing in a cage, like an abandoned stray big..." I narrate the story and she carefully listens to me.
"So sorry about that," she sympathises. "Afterwards..." I pull my words to create suspense and it's effective as she begs me to continue "The king took me to the royal table with his children. Finally, I saw their faces, I mean that of his children. Kidron is a good looking man and Elgin his sister, is a very kind and beautiful young girl like us. Unfortunately, she has this incurable disease. You need to see when she has an attack, you will surely pass out. OMG, she falls as if she's possessed by an evil spirit." this intrigues her.
"It's so sad. Talking about this, there is something I've been wanting to tell you, and it seems to be similar to what you are telling me. I saw a young girl having such an attack in her dreams, like she was fighting, struggling to breathe with her eyes closed, it was damn scary." she freaks out at her voice.
"Where did Do you see this?. It's exactly like what I saw when Elgin had an attack." this thrills me.
"In the Caelum palace." she replys. "How, did you see it? On which side of the palace is the girl being kept. Tell me everything you know. I will check when next, I go there."
"When you left that day, I was bored and decided to take a tour of the palace, this is when I found this room with that young girl in agonising. Unfortunately, a fat woman saw me and I had to run for my life. So I didn't take the time to process on which wing of the palace I was in. Sorry."
"Damn!. It's ok, you don't have to be sorry but I have to see this young girl. I have to understand whats happening to her, if it's similar to that of Elgin. Perhaps I can find a cure."
"I doubt you can find the cure, but I'm ready to help you." she says "Thank you. I will ask Maryline for permission to go to the Caelum Kingdom, I won't tell her why. I think it will be easier with Adams around." I say thoughtfully.
"Great, idea but please don't mention my name when asking for permission. Please, don't tell her that I'm coming with you. I don't want her to hate me more than she already does."
"Sure!" I nod. "I have to leave, it's already late afternoon and I have runs with some friends in the forest and I have to leave now so that I won't be late for dinner, I don't want my parents to get home before me, they are still mad at me for the last time. And I can't miss this run, I hope you understand." she begs with a tragic stare.
"You don't need to justify yourself." "I know, but I'm just sad to leave you alone in this big beautiful palace." she ends up teasing me.
"If you feel so bad for me, why don't you ask me to join you and your friends for the run."
"No, no, Eve, I don't want your lady-in-waiting to chop off my fingers. Please, please understand. I'm not a bad influence..." she ends up grimacing, she can't be serious even for a minute, she must end up making fun no matter how serious the issue is.
"Since Maryline is in the kitchen, what we will do now, is that we go to the kitchen, sit with her, then you greet her and leave. But... You don't leave, you simply go out and wait for me behind the palace, there is an exit there, I will meet you there shortly."
"This is risky!" she cries but I pull her with me to the kitchen, she can't even stand Maryline presence as she greets her and leaves immediately through the main gate.
After a few minutes "I have to rest. I will be in my room please no one should disturb me." with this said, I leave. "I will meet you shortly," Maryline adds as I leave and this makes me cry on my way to my room.
While Matilda stands there waiting for me to no avail...
