Chapter 9: Chapter 9
"Good morning." I walk into living room and watch Nathan make an attempt of cleaning but his eyes follows my long legs for a while.
I have the urge to cover myself up but if I want this to work, that will be a no.
"Are you ready to tell me what kind of god you are?"
His eyes moves to my face as I stand still by the entrance of the living room.
"Not today."
He goes back to cleaning. It seems like he is trying to concentrate on what he is doing.
"Are gods supposed to clean?"
"We do everything that humans do, Isabella. The only difference is our powers and status." He answers.
"So you're a human but a god."
He stares up at me blankly and his movements stops. "Not today, Isabella."
"How am I your mate then. I know that gods don't have mates." I continue to push.
"Not today, Isabella."
"Not today, Isabella." I repeat his words in a mocking tone and he doesn't spare me a glance as I expected.
The bowl is no longer on the counter, where I dropped it yesterday. So he did get his face eaten by that goo, how delightful.
That will teach him not to make things like that for me again, but I may say that it was actually good...
My hands slides down the counter as I stare up at god who seems to be dedicating his time to cleaning.
"Do you do this everyday?" I ask, "Is your house so messy that you clean it everyday?"
"That's a lot of questions, darling."
"Don't call me that." My mood turns sour in a second and I glare at the god. "Why won't you answer any question I ask. Huh?"
"Like I said before. You ask too much questions that I find myself thinking over which one to answer first."
This bastard.
"If that's the case then I can ask you a question at a time..."
"That won't be necessary." Somehow I feel like he is avoiding that question. The 'what are you the god of' question. Oh yeah, he is avoiding it.
Is it me or do I feel strange today.
He looks up at me, his hands pausing on his actions for a while.
"If you don't mind, I could use some assistance here. I bet..."
"No, thanks." I interrupt him before he can finish his sentence and I begin to walk back to my bedroom.
So much for trying to seduce him. I have to be really clever about this. About anything that involves him. He is a god, he can be reading my mind right now. He could be working with the other gods too.
I walk to my room and decide to take a bath. The water cools my nerves and aching body. I never knew that I needed the rest.
I guess that I haven't thought about the castle that much. I already miss Summer's inquisitiveness and Ronald's silly attempts to annoy me.
I am at my strongest there. Always so uptight but here, I am different. I feel different. Like the shield I had built around myself is no more.
This is bad in a way. I must regain the shield if I am going to go ahead with my plans. This new Isabella is not sitting well with me at all. She is too childish for my liking.
I spend so much time in my head that I don't notice when I am done taking my bath. I unconsciously go into the walk-in closet, or clothes library as the silly part of me calls it, alright, let me just call it walk-in closet and then I choose the least revealing set of cloth in there. A skinny jeans and blue off shoulder top.
I manage to get myself together when I hear a knock on the door.
"Isabella, can I come in?" His voice comes from the other side of the door. I am surprised that he has the decency to knock.
I quickly trade my towel for the clothes in my hands before I open the door.
He is a different attire and slightly leaning on the door frame. His hair is tuzzled to the side. He looks nothing like the ma- I mean god, I saw a few minutes ago.
"What do you want?"
His eyes rakes my form, up and down. "Would you like to go out?"
I frown. "What?"
Like a date... Is he asking me on a date?
"I noticed that your attires are different and since it was your aunt who packed them I am not surprised that she changed your clothing."
The only thing I can say is. "Oh."
My eyes becomes downcast for a brief moment before I look up at him again, my mind in a swirling mess.
"Wait, don't tell me that you peeked at my things."
My face turns in a horrified expression. I am sure of it. He saw the lingerie.
Oh my gosh, the gods can kill me now.
I have never been so embarrassed in my life. My face heats up and my fingers digs into my palm.
"Of course not. I didn't see anything inappropriate, I can assure you of that." Says Nathan.
I don't know if I can trust his words. After all, he did manipulate me to come here. Again, I just have to behave like I trust him if I want this plan to work and so I nod.
"Alright." I walk out of the room and he moves out of the way, allowing me to close the door behind me. "Where are we going then?"
"Shopping." He says with a small smile on his face. I don't fully understand what he is saying until he guides me behind the house.
A red car. A red car that I don't exactly know it's name or how it got here. Well, it's not like I have been to his house before, I only arrived a few hours ago, almost a day now.
He doesn't say another word as he opens the door and I hop in, he follows after me.
"I didn't know that you had a car." Damn, I didn't know that gods use cars. Why am I getting surprised with every little thing he does.
As I close the door beside me, I take notice of the new car smell coming from the car. It's seats are red too and I can tell that it's pure leather or is it... I am not a huge fan of cars. Correction, I know nothing about them.
He turns the car on, leaving me to wallow in my thoughts. To be frank, I am intrigued at his silence. I don't think we have ever been this quiet before but again, I might be wrong.
In a few moments, he drives out of the premises, leaving me to stare at the trees that we pass by.
"Are we going to heaven?" My question knocks him off guard and I turn to him quickly enough to catch a smile on his face.
"No," His answer almost sounds curt. "Why would you think that?"
"Because you won't answer any of my questions and I am trying to look for the ones that you will answer."
He laughs. He actually laughs. Oh gosh, why do I feel like slapping him now.
"I never said that I won't answer your questions, Isabella." What? "I only said that it is not time for you to know."
"And I am saying that I don't care. Look god, I don't have time for this. If you don't want to share anything about yourself to me then how will I know anything about you."
"That is a very complex statement, Isabella." The smile that pulls on his lips makes me clench my fists.
Isabella, breath. Just breath.
"Okay then. Tell me what you think I need to know. What do you want me to know about you?"
He finally glances my way, only for a brief moment. "My name is Nathan..."
I almost roll my eyes. I know what your name is. He continues anyway, not hearing my thoughts.
I am somewhat expecting him to say something like, I am a god, but what he says next leaves me speechless.
"I don't remember when I was born but I remember that I had the most loving parents. Unfortunately, they died when I was only a child. I have been alone ever since."
"B-But gods don't have parents. Right?"
He turns to me and then his eyes are back in the road. With the brief moment I got to see the look in his eyes, I blank, waiting for his answer.
"I don't know. I just know that I had parents... once."
I nod. It takes a while before I know that the car has stopped and when I look up, I see a whole civilization before us.
"Why am I not surprised that there are people here."
His loud laugh booms through the air.
"That's because you unconsciously trust me, Isabella. I would never try to lock you away from other people."
Somehow, I don't believe him. I definitely don't.
His face shows a carefree smile as he turns to me. "Come on, we don't have much time to waste and don't worry, these people are all humans."
"And I'm guessing that these humans know about us?"
"All humans know about the supernatural world now, Isabella." He has been saying my name many times now. I take note of this as he steps down from the car and is swiftly at my side, and he opens my door too.
'Such a gentleman. I wonder how he will be in bed.'
That's not what you will keep getting, dear wolf.
'Oh please, you did say that you will seduce him right? Make him fall in love with you?'
Shut up! I am not sure if he can hear you or not.
'Well, if he can, it won't matter. I am as innocent as a monkey.'
A monkey isn't innocent, wolf.
She turns away in my head and her presence disappears. When I get out of the car, Nathan is looking down at me, worried.
"Is there something on your mind?"
Instead of answering I look around and ask. "Where are we now?"
His eyes scan the environment too before he leads me away from the car and towards a building beside us.
"Wait, are we in the human world?"
"Yes, and no." I frown at his response. "This place is inhabited by humans but yet again, other supernatural beings come here once in a while but they leave as quickly as they came."
"You mean that you scare them away."
He opens the glass door for me and I walk pass, ignoring the humans that stares at us.
"Not really. I think my presence does."
As he positions himself by my side I face him with a frown. "Your presence? I don't feel your presence."
"Yes, I hid it from you. Honestly, I never wanted you to know what I was so quickly." He frowns too and a couple of humans close to us move away like they are been chased. "I wanted to ease it into you slowly and I sure didn't want to bring you here so fast. We haven't gotten to know each other that much."
Somehow, he reminds me of... me. Okay, that sounds strange.
"So that's why you don't want to tell me more about this god stuff." I tilt my head. "You want me to get used to you first. You think that I will run to the hills once I know who you truly are, a scary god I presume?"
He smiles, moving his head backwards. "You are as smart as I expected."
"But that doesn't explain why I am your mate. You do know that gods don't have mate."
He nods, his eyes never leaving mine and the small smile on his face slowly disappearing. "Yes, but that is not for you to know now."
"Will the truth be so much for me to handle or you just don't want me to kill you for deceiving me." The words spill out of my mouth before I can stop them but he doesn't look surprised.
He doesn't say a word after that and I am positive that it has nothing to do with us now in front of a shop with clothes... Maybe it does.
A short lady walks out of the shop and comes towards us with a pretty smile. Her eyes moves from Nathan in recognization and to me in confusion and also wonder. So far she looks friendly.
"How may I help you today, sir."
The movement is so small but I manage to catch her bowing her head his Nathan's direction. I am not shocked that everyone knows who he is here.
My eyes widen a bit as I think of something. If I want to know more, I can simply ask the little miss over here. I can use this to my advantage.
"Do you have anything that is suitable for a young lady like this." Nathan gestures to me with a small smile on his lips. "I will be glad if she can get some comfortable clothes."
The woman turns to me and smile. "Of course. Please follow me, miss."
Her tone is polite and so I do as she says, only glimpsing back to stare at Nathan as he slowly disappears out of my view and I, walking deeper into the shop.
Several dresses pass my eyes as I follow the short lady to wherever she is taking me.
With a few more steps, she stops and turns to me after she has scooped a couple of dresses in her hands.
"Make your pick." She drops them on a large chair before me. "There is a changing room there." She points to a door with a black knob and my eyes follow her finger. "I will be back with a few shirts and skirts."
"And trousers too." I add. "Don't bother to pick up any under garment, I have a lot of those."
A lot of undignified undies.
She only nods at me and disappears into the way we came from. I stand still for a moment before I bend down the pick a dress.
It's soft and reminds me of the dresses that my aunt picked out for me. With a sigh, I choose another and walk into the changing room to try it out. The short lady comes in a few minutes with a few clothes and I spend the next hour trying out clothes and frowning at how I look in them.
The short lady helps me put on some of them as I continue to try the clothing. Through our little actions, I catch her name, Jasmine. She seems like be a nice girl, and after a while, she loosens up.
She's actually a non-stop talker and that's some thing that I am not. Talking too much is not my thing. Honestly, I don't like talking.
"This looks really nice on you, Isabella." She almost looks like a cartoon as she pushes my hair to the side and smiles at me, trying to stay steady on her toes.
"You only say that because it matches my hair." I tell her. "Help me get it off."
She does as I say and I drop it with the other clothes I have chosen. I don't bother to admire the clothes I put on.
"This has been fun, Jasmine. However, it is time to leave. How much are all of these." I say when I put on my normal clothes.
"That's not for you to worry. Sir Nathan has taken care of it." She says as she packs my clothes into bags. The way she does it nearly and carefully amazes me.
"Sir Nathan? Why do you call him that?"
She stops, her next action is to stare at me, stunned. "Well, because... Oh you don't know about his nature."
"I do actually. He is a god." She nods at my words and I continue. "But I don't know what kind of god he is."
"It would be better if you ask him then. He doesn't do well to people saying things about him behind his back. If you don't know about this then he doesn't want you to know."
Her words are true but I have been trying to get the information out of him since I met him.
She hands me the bags and pushes me out of the changing room softly. "And I am sure that nobody here will tell you too. They don't want any trouble from him."
And so, I must meet the big dog then...
"Did Nathan always live here?"
"Yes," She catches me in a surprise when she answers. "He has lived here all his life and from what I have heard, he was born here."
"From what you have heard?" My ears spikes up immediately. "What do you mean by that."
She shrugs. "Not my tale to tell. You better ask him all the questions you want."
Before I can open my mouth to say something else, Nathan walks inside and I keep shut.
His eyes scan me for some unknown reason before they are on the female.
"Thank you, Jasmine. We will be on our way."
"Erm, you didn't even pay her." I frown in confusion as he grabs my wrist and pulls to my start walking. "Or have you already done that."
She is able to hear us from afar and she speaks. "Don't worry about that. It's on the house."
I smile back at her as we leave the shop and head to the car. My mind can only be occupied by what she told me.
Nathan had been born here. My mind is just in a mess, I have had so much revelations today that I fear if I know another thing, I may combust.
"Have anyone ever told you that curiosity killed the cat." Nathan says when he has placed the bags in the car and we are also inside too.
"I knew that you could hear what we were talking about. Why can't you keep your ears to yourself, they can put you in big trouble." I tease and he smiles.
"I hope that they don't. I love my ears." He says. "I take it that you enjoyed your shopping."
"It wasn't much of the shopping I wanted but it was much more better than what I did at home." I shrug, feeling obligated to answer.
"So in general, you loved it." He sings with a teasing smile on his lips.
I roll my eyes and look away. "Shut up and drive. I am hungry and don't you think of making that thing you prepared yesterday."
He places his hands on his chest in playful hurt. "What? But it was delicious and you loved it."
"I never said that! And I still won't!"
