Chapter 6: Chapter 6
“So let me get this straight, you aren’t really british, you only like the accent. You’re not exactly from the human world, you stay aside from there and you are also not sure about this mate bond thing too?” My brows furrows as I repeat all his cryptic answers and he nods at me.
“You didn’t miss a thing.”
We have been walking aimlessly for a while and my attempt to know him ends up confusing me in the process. Let’s not talk about how everything he says doesn’t make sense at all. I barely have the time to question him more, my wolf is getting antsy with the way unmated females stare at him. I shake my head, trying to get rid of my overwhelming thoughts.
“You know that I don’t believe you right?”
“That’s true but I don’t lie, princess. It’s uncalled for and it destroys people’s relationship.” He says and he stuffs his hands into his pocket, turning his body to me a little as he walks.
“You don’t lie.” My words come with a lifted eyebrow, my head ticking quickly as my sixth sense spikes. “Or you can’t.”
He smiles at me, his steps a bit quicker. “I don’t lie, prince-”
My eyes narrow for once in a few hours. “If you say that again, I am going to hit you so hard that you will bleed.”
He leans back, also narrowing his eyes at me and then I notice that he has stopped walking and so have I. We have ventured into a quiet part of the city. The tall buildings stands tall, mocking us. Sometimes I wonder why the castle was built in a medieval style and at the same time, the city shows more of the technology we have. It almost looks like the human world, I have never stepped foot in there but I have watched about it on the television.
“Your threats excites me sometimes.”
A cocky smile plays on his lips as he says this. “You didn’t answer the question, Nathan.”
This makes my sixth sense work faster, my wolf hasn’t been active after our last talk and I have been very observant of things. In summary, I am back to myself, to the person I once was before she came back.
“No, I think I did, princess. You are the one who doesn’t get my answer.” He says, pointing to me and leaning closer at the same time. The way his eyes sparkles as he watches me almost knocks the air out of me again but I stand my ground.
“Are you trying to intimidate me?” I ask and cock an eyebrow at him and the response I get is a blink from him before he speaks.
“Again no, you’re the one who still doesn’t understand my answer, princess.”
I sigh as the itchy feeling crawls up my body. “Don’t call me that.”
“Aren’t you a princess?” He asks with his head tilted. “Or would you prefer that I called you my princess?” I glare at him and he doesn’t shrink away in fear. He stands on the spot, his hands in his pockets and a knowing smile on his face.
“So you create stupid sentences in that brain of yours.” I flash him a toothy smile. “How about I cut it open.”
“Still hopelessly in love with threats, I see. I can be the substitute for them if you want.”
The heaviness of my glare increases once I know what he is saying.
“Love is vile and poisonous.” I tell him, crossing my fingers as I stare at him head on. “I will never fall in love with you, Nathan.”
He watches me in amusement as I turn and storm off to the castle, not waiting for another word from him. When I reach the castle and enter my room, I see Summer and Trixie seated on the ground with their ankles crossed. They look at me when I come in, they seem to have been in a conversation.
“You’re late.” Summer speaks first, her tone and eyes daring me to counter back her words.
I raise my nose to the air and sniff. “You’re late too.” The freshness of her scent gives her off. Trixie has been here long before her.
She rolls her eyes, looking annoyed about something as I sit down beside them and we form a small circle. I turn to Trixie who is unusually quiet.
“And you brought a guest too.”
Trixie scoffs at my words. “You know why I am here.”
“Yes, I do but what I am curious about is why you agreed to come. I mean, you didn’t want to help me in the first place.”
“It’s more intense now, I don’t want you to wake up with a severely busted brain and I am already helping you. I literally helped you the first time!”
“I get your point, there’s no need to patronize.” I sigh and turn to Summer. “Let’s begin.”
Summer in turn faces Trixie. “You heard the boss. She doesn’t pay me for nothing.”
“No, she doesn’t because you’re her cousin.” Trixie’s eyes widens as she becomes mildly distracted. “Wow, that rhymes…a lot!”
I shake my head at her again and she continues. “So, I heard that you have found your mate. It is both thrilling and sad. I might not be able to see you again when you pack out.”
I am not surprised that she heard it so quickly. News travels fast here, with the wolves gossips and Ronald’s big mouth. The wolves doesn’t know about it so I am pointing my fingers at Ronald.
“I am not moving out, Trixie. We haven’t really gotten to that stage yet.”
“What stage are you guys in then? The flirting stage or the s-”
I close my eyes immediately as I try to block her out. I then remember that she is not my wolf, she is some annoying cousin that can’t shut up. “Please don’t say that.” I hold up a finger and my eyes slowly opens.
“Yeah, you’re right. Summer is too young to hear about how you want to jump his bones.”
I feel something slipping into my mind as she says this and the presence of my wolf intensifies, getting stronger till she is fully present. She tilts her big head, while accessing the situation. ‘I always liked Trixie. She has so much humor in her, unlike you.”
A hard glare is then directed at me and I scoff. “Thank you for the compliment.”
Trixie’s eyes widen even more further as she rocks herself back. “You’re talking to your wolf, aren’t you. I can’t believe that she is back.”
The enthusiasm she gets is then contaminated by my wolf and they both squeak like dying rabbits at the same time. It makes me wonder if Trixie is reading my mind right now.
“Don’t you have anything better to do.”
Her nose wrinkles and she nods. “Oh yeah, I do, sorry about that. Now, hold your hands together everyone.”
We do as she says and my wolf curiosity passes through me. ‘What are they doing?’ She asks when Trixie commands us to close our eyes.
‘We do this every week. It’s sort of a ritual.’ I tell her.
‘What type of ritual?’
‘You’ll see.’ I smile, feeling the magical sensation in my body, flowing so smoothly that I come to enjoy it. My wolf starts to panic when the sensation gets to her, dragging her over to the barrier she was once in.
‘Isabella, what’s happening. Isabella, Izz-’ Her voice stops and her presence is gone like the wind, my head becomes clearer in seconds. I open my eyes and see Trixie and Summer staring at me with expectation.
It’s nice to have a clear mind again. I can actually think without expecting someone to answer or judge my thoughts.
“She’s gone.” I say, looking up at the two females in front of me. “It’s sort of a relief.”
“Sort of?’ Trixie raises an eyebrow at my speech. “This is not something you’re going to regret right? Because I don’t have the time or courage to hold on to you while you cry.”
“I have never cried before.” I say and she snaps her fingers together.
“Exactly. So it’s going to look like a full blown war happened in here, including everywhere you go.”
“You don’t know that.” I stare at her with critical eyes. I don’t cry. I have never cried, not even when I am in pain, not even when I first transformed into my wolf. Never! And I am not going to start now. No, I am not.
Summer stands to her feet as quickly as she can and when she reaches the door, she pauses and turns to us for a brief second. “I am going to train. Don’t lose important details and tell me all about it when I get back.”
She walks out after that and I turn to Trixie who is more confused than I am.
“Our cousin is a bit loose in the head, don’t you think? Well, I don’t.” I am more confused when Trixie speaks and I show this by shaking my head.
“You do know that you’re the one with the loose head, right?”
She shakes her head vigorously at me when we stand to our feet. “I am a fey, so it’s normal to act this way. Summer and I are normal… I am just a bit too normal.”
She sighs, managing to confuse me even more.
“But mom said it’s okay. She said that it is.”
I nod my head to show how I understand but I really don’t. I really need to stop spending time with these people even though we are blood related.
“Just say hi to Owen for me and leave a kiss on each of his cheeks too.”
Owen is Trixie’s younger brother. He is the matured one and again, the most cunning among the two.
“That will be gross and I am sure that if your mate hears about this, he will be mad. My brother is too young to be in a war but he might kill your human mate, after all, he is eight and still undergoing the awkward changes of a fey.”
I roll my eyes at this. “No one is going to kill anyone and there will be no war. I just asked you to kiss his cheeks, Trixie. He is your brother!”
“That doesn’t make it less gross. You of all people should know that boys have cooties, those things could be highly contacted.” A portal shimmers opens in my room and she walks through it while still talking. “I am not exactly sure if it can be contacted but don’t worry, I will blow him a kiss for you.”
She winks at me before the portal closes behind her. I am left alone in the room and I scoff at the irony. My head is empty too. With nothing to do, I walk aimlessly around the castle. That’s how it is. Boring.
Even with the piles of paperwork I normally do, nothing stops the loneliness from slipping in. It’s more of boredom though. Nevertheless, this boredom or loneliness won’t stop me from loving this place. This is my home, the place I grew up in.
The place that my mother grew up in, the place she died, this is the place I was born and even though I have found my mate, my mind can not fathom the idea of leaving here.
Leaving everything behind, my aunt and uncle, my grandparents and cousins, dare I say, even my mom. It just hurts when things go against the way I want them.
I hear hurried footsteps coming to my side, making me look up. Lost in my thoughts, I have managed to go quite far away from my chambers but Summer finds me. Her eyes seems calm but her body movement is frantic.
“What happened?”
She answers immediately, not hiding the point.
“You need to come with me quickly or your mate is going to kill the human.”
My brows furrow as I ask. “What human? Who is Nathan trying to kill?”
I don’t get my answer but before my legs can stop me, I begin to move with my cousin as she takes me outside the castle and closer to the city. “See for yourself.”
We are at the beginning of the city, not many wolves live here. They are just a few houses around. My eyes doesn’t take long to spot out the slightly curly haired male. His long fingers are positioned tightly on the human’s neck.
The human. He is the one who rudely addressed me that day in the training grounds. I am awkwardly not surprised that he is in trouble again. He seems to be a barrier of it. I feel like he can and will cause trouble everywhere he goes and he will pay for it, very deeply.
The sound of the human’s heart beat slowing down comes into my hearing and if possible, Nathan’s hand tightens on his neck.
The human continues to wheeze and struggles fruitlessly as I leave my cousin behind and walk to where they are.
“What are you doing, Nathan?” It’s dumb, yes. But somehow I am hesitant to touch him or move any closer. “Nathan, put the human down.”
I take cautious steps to them but I don’t manage to get Nathan’s attention. It’s almost like he got sucked into his own world.
The human’s heartbeat slows down drastically and the human blinks, his arms falling slowly at his side as he gives up on struggling. In return, my arms reach out to touch Nathan’s and as if been shocked, he turns to me immediately.
I gasp, almost staggering back. The male staring at me isn’t the Nathan I have known for almost a full day. This one has eyes that I have never seen before. Eyes that have no exact colour and the power emitting from him, that’s another level. I have no idea where it comes from but it doesn’t attack me or frighten me.
It’s just wraps itself around me, like it’s trying to comfort me. I peer up at him with wide eyes, my mouth partly open as I understand what’s happening. This kind of power…it’s blinding.
“You’re a god, aren’t you.” My mouth utters it before I fathom what I said. “You are a god. Shit! How did I not notice this before.”
He stares at me but his hold on the human doesn’t release and it is then I notice that the human has stopped struggling and his heart is beating its last few beats, very slowly.
In a moment of panic, I do the one thing that comes into my mind. I grab his face in my hands and I plant my lips on his. I kiss him and he lets go of the human and holds on to my face as well.
