Chapter 37: Chapter 37

"And why is that?" I ask.

"Don't act dumb, you know that he can never accept me." She sits on her bed, placing her hands on her face as she sulks.

Okay, this was not what I was expecting.

"I don't hey why you would think that. Did he tell you himself."

She frowns at me as she moves her hands away from her face. "No, but he is a human."

It's my turn to frown. "I don't see how that has to do with anything."

Slowly, I sit on the bed, beside her. So this is the reason she called me here. I guess that I was right. David is her mate after all.

Suddenly, she is staring at me like I've lost my mind or worst...

"Don't you get it, Isabella! He doesn't feel the bond like I do and he..." She pauses and looks down at her fingers. With a small whisper, she tells me. "He isn't immortal as I am. I'll live forever while he'll grow old and die. I can't live like that, I can't! So it's better you tell me how to reject him without feeling pain and I'll do it."

I wonder why she's coming to me about this. It's not like I know how to do that. She's such a child.

"Summer, you do know that as long as he has your mark and you accept him, he won't grow old, right?" I tell her.

Her face blanks. "What? Nobody told me that."

"We never expected your mate to be human but that's okay. I'm sure it will all work out." I assure her.

My hearing picks up a small sigh that comes from her. It seems like she is more relaxed now that I have cleared her doubts.

It looks like she isn't finished because she shoots me down with another question. "How am I going to explain the mate bond to him."

"Don't worry. That's covered already." And it's not like your parents will let you two be together at such a young age. I don't say this out loud though.

I am feeling smug with myself while she looks at me like she doesn't understand. "David already know about mates and I'm fifty percent sure that he knows who he is to you."

"Fifty percent sure... I guess that's okay for me but it would be better if he doesn't know too. We are still very young and he is clearly older than me. I don't think mum and dad will let me go close to him."

"Yeah, I thought you were too deep in thought to think about that part." I tell her and she frowns at me.

Uncle and aunt are just protective of her. I snap out of my thoughts when he stands up and the smile on her face looks brighter than ever.

"Oh, by the way. I was sent to call you for breakfast. I totally forgot!" She rushes out of the room, dragging me along...again.

"Mom's going to kill me." She pants.

"Are princesses supposed to run in the castle halls?" I smirk. Yes, her mom will likely murder both of us for coming late but if Summer drops some her charms and smiles, we might escape.

"Oh please shut up." She slows down but continues dragging me along. "If we go late... I mean, we have visitors that we shouldn't keep waiting."

I smile behind my hand. So she does care about what David thinks after all.

Throughout breakfast, Summer sneaks a peek at David once in a while but I notice that David hardly looks up from his food.

He squirms a lot and it makes me wonder if he can feel the bond as strongly as Summer can.

Breakfast is quick and as soon as it ends, I go back to my room. Summer is nervous about her 'mate situation' and so am I.

Since Nathan asked me on a date I've been freaking out... but I'm sure that I started freaking out way before that.

He's not in the room right now so I should probably check my wardrobe for cute dresses. No, I don't think I have those kind of things here and who knows if my aunt moved everything.

When I step into the room... I mean wardrobe. A face suddenly appears in front of me and I scream as I jump back startled.

"Hey, would you keep it down." The face speaks and I scream again. In return, I get an eye roll.

"When did you turn into a scaredy cat. Are you sure that you're the Isabella that I know?"

I blink once, then twice. The voice sounds familiar. Wait...

"Trixie?"

The fey grins at me. "So you remember me after all this time."

I let out a nervous laugh as she embraces me. "Sorry for not calling."

When she pulls back, she takes a long stare at me with serious eyes. "You've changed a lot."

My shoulders sag as I give her a blank stare. "I'll keep hearing that for the rest of the day, won't I."

She nods and pats my shoulders. "Yes, you will. Now stop talking and pick a dress. I have a lot of cute dresses right here!"

Not again.

"Trixie, a lot of people have been reading my mind lately. Please stop or I might begin to develop migraines very soon."

"Don't be dramatic." She says and waves me off as she digs into a pile of dress in front of her. I don't even want to ask how she or those clothes got in here.

Suddenly, the door bursts open and Nathan rushes in. "I heard a scream. Did you get hurt?"

He looks at me for a brief moment before he frowns, seeing that nothing is wrong with me.

Trixie pounces to my front and leans towards Nathan. "You must be the god, Nathan. I'm Isabella's best friend and also one of her cousins."

Nathan looks shocked when she stretches out her hand for a handshake.

"She didn't tell me she had a best friend."

Trixie turns to glare at me immediately. "Exactly! It's so annoying, don't you think?" She complains but he isn't staring at her anymore. His eyes are on the pile of clothes on the floor.

I suddenly have the urge to hide them from his view.

"Well, Isabella's best friend... can you tell me what's going on here?" He questions.

Trixie frowns while whispering. "Isabella's best friend... really, that's my name now?" She speaks up. "My name is Trixie."

"That's the first thing you would have told me."

"You shouldn't blame me. Take it on Isabella for not telling you anything about me." Trixie complains. I wonder how this has anything to do with me.

"Isabella, I'll be on the other side of this door, if you need help just call on me."

"Wouldn't it be better if you watched her get dressed... I mean, you're her mate right, and you guys have probably gotten intimate."

"Shut up, Trixie." My face turns red as I run to cover up her mouth while Nathan watches on with a smug look and also a bit of confusion.

"I don't need a dress since I'm going out for a run."

"Wait, in your wolf form?" She asks after prying my hand off her lips. "That's something I never thought you would say, like ever. Well, in that case, you don't need clothes at all. Why not go n-"

I cover up her mouth again before she can say anything stupid.

"You should ignore everything she has said her." I tell Nathan before I quickly release Trixie and drag Nathan out of the wardrobe and also the room.

"Let's go, Nathan."

I can't believe she has the nerve to embarrass me like that.

"You seem in a hurry. Is that a good or bad thing?"

I sigh. "You know, my aunt always says that Trixie reminds her of my mother. Apparently, I got my mom's looks while Trixie has her character even though she isn't related to my mom's side of the family."

"Character isn't inherited by blood, Isabella. I'm sure that a lot of people act like your mom and Trixie." Nathan tells me. "But where is this coming from; I have never heard you talk about your mother, or even your parents before."

"My mom's dead so there's nothing to talk about and besides, my parents both died before I was born."

He makes a humming sound as he tilts his head in confusion.

"You don't get it. Well, instead of growing up in my mom's womb, I grew up in something like an incubator; even just a few weeks after my existence I managed to live. I'm probably a miracle child of some sort."

"Yes, you are. After all, the Moon Goddess did contribute to your survival." He says and I gasp, looking up at him.

"Really, I didn't know that." I scowl.

"You're not supposed to." He tells me as he looks away. "She wanted it to be kept a secret, I guess. What I want to know is why you are so chirpy about yourself today."

"You said that you would like to know my wolf better. It's only logical that I tell you about myself too."

We walk pass the royal garden for a while before we get to the forest. I take a look at the tree that are closest to me and point to one.

"I'll go change... I mean shift over there so you should probably let go of my hand."

Simultaneously, our eyes turn to our intertwined fingers and I'm sure he smirks.

"I thought you were going to act like a school girl." He chuckles but slowly stops when he sees my face.

"What does a school girl have to do with how I act?"

He releases my hand and tucks both his hands nto his pockets. "You are very much classified as a cute school girl in my eyes.

I walk away from him as my face flames up. Thankfully, he doesn't see.

Shifting to my wolf form is not something I do often so I call out to my wolf and she instructs me on how to go about it.

Wait a sec, I never thought about communication. How will Nathan know what I'm saying.

'It's simple, just jump on him."

Shut up!

My wolf prances out of the cover of the trees but Nathan is no where to be found. In his place is a light black wolf, staring at me with golden yellow eyes.

Don't tell me that this is Nathan.

'Oh yes, this is him.' My wolf tells me.

But how did he...

'I am a god, I can change my features in anyway I want..' I hear Nathan's voice in my head and I blink at the wolf in front of me.

'This is far more than a change of features and how can he mindlink with me?' I ask my wolf.

'That's because he is a god.'

Ugh! Forget I even asked you anything. I guess a lot of things won't make sense when you have a god as your mate; he defiles all logic in this world.

'Isabella, I'm going to jump on him.'

That's not going to happen!
