Chapter 23: Chapter 23

After the kiss, I stay clear from Nathan for a while. My cheeks seems to be stained red permanently. It's a bit annoying how he affects me this much and frustrating that I like it. My mind is a mess and he is the cause of it. I think this is how it feels to have a mate.

When his hands left my body the only thing I thought about was to run into the kitchen. Here he won't dare touch me...

Yeah, this is where we cook food so he won't try to kiss me. Why am I panicking again?

"Are you alright?" He speaks from behind, startling me to my senses.

"Sure, sure." I laugh out nervously and hurry out of the kitchen. "Just don't come near you."

"Come near you? Is there a problem?"

'Damn it, Isabella. Calm yourself and shut your big mouth up.' My wolf growls in my head. It's been a long time since she talked to me so I become a bit surprised.

Not minding the fact that I don't like her tone, I take her advice. "It's nothing. Do you need anything? Anything that is not me."

"Huh?" He frowns in confusion. "What are you talking about? Anyways, I wanted to ask you something."

It's my turn to frown.

Maybe he wants to ask me on a date. Will I say yes?

"It's nothing really. I just want you to come to a birthday party with me." I swear that I see a blush on his cheeks for a second there. "It's a close friend of mine sister's birthday. I would like it if you go with me then maybe you can know me better."

"Like a date?"

"Sure. If that's what you want to call it then, yes."

Hmm. A date..

"Alright then. When will it begin?"

"A few days from today. If you don't mind Jasmine will be coming with us." He turns his back to me. "She'll be mostly your bodyguard."

"My bodyguard?" I blink. "You don't believe that I can take care of myself, do you?"

"No, I don't." With that, he walks away and leaves me in a brief shock.

My hands clench into fists as I imagine cutting his limbs off one by one. It gives me a little satisfaction.

"You stupid bastard." I grit my teeth.

I have never felt this angry in my entire life. It turns out that he is a jerk after all. A pyschopathic jerk.

I begin to walk away from him before I do anything stupid. My plan has changed now. I will murder this kid.

"I don't believe that you can't take care of yourself, Isabella." His smug voice makes me stop on my tracks. "I'm just taking no chances with your safety. Where we are going is pretty dangerous."

I gasp and turn to him. I catch his smirk and glimmering yellow eyes immediately. "You're a very beautiful girl, Isabella and you're mine, a lot of people are going to exploit those two things. Including the fact that you are royalty."

"Huh? How many people know who I am."

"Everybody in this city, all the gods and everybody I have ever known in my life."

My eyes widen as I hear this. He looks so confident when he speaks. "I'm sure that's a lot."

"You can protect yourself but I'd like to be on the safe side. Even gods have enemies." His voice turns into a whisper as he walks away. "And do something for me, reconcile with your wolf. It'll be bad if you keep pushing her away. She's a part of you and you know that."

I try to remain calm as he walks past me but I can't stop myself from glaring at his back and clenching my fist.

He is now showing his true colours. What did I expect from him.

"You didn't even apologise for doubting her, that's something you should fix."

"How dare you..." My left eye twitches. "She can remain at the back of my head. It's better that way."

"You may think so but it really not how it should be." He speaks and I wonder why he hasn't left yet. "You'll need her, after all, both of you are unique."

My wolf whines in my head and I visualize her wagging her tail happily.

"How did you know about my wolf."

To answer my question, he taps his head and I glare at him even more.

"You have been reading my mind all this while?!"

"No, I can actually hear what your wolf says. It's something that I can't turn off." He shrugs. "It's not my fault, Isabella, you need to calm down."

"I have never felt so calm in my life." My left eye twitches even more and he stares at me like I have started developing another head.

"Are you sure?"

I nod, smiling as sweetly as I can. "I'm positive. I just need your phone real quick. I need to call someone."

With a little hesitation, he hands over his phone to me after he digs it out of his pocket.

"Why do I feel like I won't get it back."

"Because you won't." I turn away from him and walk into my room. "And don't follow me."

I can sense his confusion but it only gives me more drive to do what I have planned.

When I am in the security of my room, I make sure that he is nowhere near the door before I search for Jasmine number and call her.

She answers within two beeps.

"Hey, Sir Nathan. Are you having trouble with Miss Isabella."

"Yes, apparently, he is." I sigh.

"Um, Isabella is that you? What are you doing with Sir Nathan's phone."

"I'm calling you with it." I roll my eyes. "Can you direct me to your house, there's something I need to talk to you about."

"Talk to me? Isn't it better that I come over?"

"No, no, no." I rush out theses words. "I don't want Nathan to hear what I have to say, it's kind of private so can I come over."

"Okay." She seems hesitant but she manages to tell me a spot that we should meet before we go to her house.

I pack some of my clothes in a small bag without making a noise before I jump out of the window. I land on the ground safely.

It's possible that he was listening in on our conversation over the phone and he knows where I am going but I don't have time to explain anything to him when he catches me and that's why I followed the window.

He might as well be waiting for me by the door but he isn't going to have the chance to see me walk through it. It sucks to be him.

'When you get mad, you abandon your cool composure and then your real self comes out. I kind of like this part of you very much.'

I grit my teeth when my wolf speaks. It seems like today is 'chatting day' for us. Nevertheless, I begin to walk as I answer her. I will not give her the satisfaction she wants from my silence.

"And why is that?" I whisper lowly to not attract bystanders' attention.

'Because this part of you reminds me of myself.'

I make up my mind to ignore everything she says after this and focus on the task I have before me. When she sees that I don't talk, I feel her presence leave me.

At that same time, I sight Jasmine in the spot she told me to meet her. She waves at me when she sees me and I walk to her.

"Hey, Isabella. It's good to see you but what is it you wanted to talk about so badly." Her face moves from glee to confusion in a flash.

"You're too hyperactive for me to keep up with you sometimes."

"Erm, what do you mean?" Her frown deepens even more.

"Let's go to your house first. If that's alright with you."

"Sure..." She hesitates before she leads me to her house. I don't bother to look around, admire or observe the place, I walk inside with speed and lock the door behind me.

She stares at me with furrowed brows. "Is there something wrong?"

"Not at all. I just wanted to tell you that I'll stay at your place from now on." I smile as I place my bag on the nearest thing I see, a black couch.

"Stay at my place? You aren't making any sense. Is there something going on between you and Sir Nathan? I really don't think it's a good idea to stay here. And why do you have Sir Nathan's phone in your hands?"

"I can tell that you're really confused but please understand that I need space from that jerk."

"Jerk?" She says like she can't believe her ears. "Are you sure that you're okay." She pauses and brings out her phone, already typing on it. "I'll send Sir Nathan a message to come pick you up."

A small ping come from the phone in my hands and I raise it to her view with a deadpan look. "Remember that you're the one who said I was holding his phone. Look, I will stay for maybe a few months before I get a place of my own. If that isn't okay with you, I can also go."

I take a few steps back and she rushes forward to grab my shoulders with an awkward smile. "Erm, that's okay. You can stay. I was just a bit surprised that you wanted to stay with me since we come from different worlds."

"Different worlds?"

"Yeah, different classes..." She rocks on her heels and flashes me a much more awkward smile as she nervously plays with her hair. "We're basically different species, you're a werewolf and... I'm just me."

Oh, I get it now.

"That's all right. I won't try to bite you when you're asleep or anything. You don't have to worry about that." I laugh out. "I like you, you're nice."

She retorts to playing with her fingers but her rocking doesn't stop. "I hope that will do. It's a honour to have you in my house."

"Yeah, just don't tell Nathan that I am here. There might be a chance that he already knows but it'll be better not to prove him right."

"Okay?? I hope you don't get me in trouble."

"I don't plan on doing that." I wave the phone in the air. "That's why I took his phone with me."

"Doesn't that mean that he can track his phone to you."

I shut up after that and my smile disappears.
