Chapter 19: Chapter 19
I turn my attention to my food for a while before I look back at him. "Did you cook this?"
As I open the plate covers what stares back at me is a lot of delicious food. My nose is pretty good in sniffing out things since I am a werewolf so I am able to know how delicious it is...
"Yeah. I had a little help from Jasmine because I wanted to make it worth while."
I frown. "Wanted? Sounds like it's not your objective anymore."
"I still want to but it's your choice to taste it." He gestures to the food, waiting for me to take a bite and I slowly look down at the several plates full of cool dishes.
"If I eat this, will you help Shelia? I know that I am asking a lot of things from you right now but she really needs help."
Help from this curse you sensed.
Slowly, I cross my fingers under the table.
Please don't tell me that the character he was portraying in the time he sensed that was the one of someone who lies. Please don't or I might kill him right now.
I peer at him through my eyelashes and watch as he nods.
"I should be able to do that tomorrow or next."
"Why not today?" I scowl at this. Does he even want to help?
"You see, it took a lot more power than I expected to search for the curse. I may know who put it on her." The last sentence he speaks is so low that I strain my ears before I hear it.
"You know the god who cursed her?" The same person that may be responsible for her parents death. "That's a bonus."
I don't know how I move to the edge of my seat as my fingers pick up my cutleries on the table.
"I can't tell you, I'm sorry for that but the god's identity will remain hidden."
My eyes widen at the impact of his words. "A god was the one who made the curse? What the hell would a god want with a little girl."
"I don't know and I can't really ask."
"Wait a second, Shelia got cursed in that forest and then yesterday, you were mumbling something about a goddess." His eyes darkens when I say this. "She is the one who laid this curse on Shelia, isn't she but you don't want to tell me who she is for some unknown reason."
I tilt my head as I watch his expression and I add. "Is she your lover?"
Silence. It greets me and I welcome it. The only thing I hear from him is his harsh intake of air and my eyes narrows.
"So that's a yes."
"I can assure you that my relationship with her is in the past now. It has been like this for a long time and it's not going to change."
"I don't care about that, Nathan." I quickly stand to my feet but my eyes don't leave him. "If you are involved in whatever is going on with Shelia, if this involves what happened between you and your lover or if it has anything to do with you, I'll torture you then I'll kill you."
He doesn't say a word, he only stares at me with equal intensity. "I give you my word that I don't have anything to do with her. If I did then I would have told you."
"How do I know if you're lying or not." I dip my chin up. "All I know is that you are saying things and acting in different ways just to please me but that's not enough. Maybe you are feeling guilty because of what you did to her and you want to fix this."
"I understand your reasoning but I did no such thing. I would never harm those kids, not even their parents."
I fold my arm. "You said kids and their parents too I didn't tell you who went into the woods that day."
"And you didn't have to. I'm a god, I know all these things and I also know that you shouldn't be scooping around or looking for any tabs on this forest and the goddess."
"You are talking like she is dangerous." I slowly sit down and the tension that he was feeling eases up. It's strange how I didn't realize he it.
"Because she is." He sighs. "Please eat and then we can talk."
I slowly obey him, taking a few seconds interval to look at him and then back at my food.
"What kind of god are you, Nathan?" I pick the food in front of me. "You said that you would answer my questions, right, so here I am waiting for some answers."
"And you didn't waste a second to jump into asking." I catch a small glimpse of his smirk before he says. "I am a god that manipulates time."
"Time?" I tilt my head. "I don't understand. Well, I do but at the same time, I don't. And now, I'm confusing myself."
I grumble lowly and glare at the food in front of me before I take a piece of chicken into my mouth. It explodes in my mouth, leaving me in a delightful mess and a smile breaks on my face.
"You really made this?" I ask in shock.
"Like I said, I had help from Jasmine but yes, I did most of the heavy work."
"And I find myself not believing a word you just said." After I said this, I feel his eyes on me. It bored into my skin and I squirm but keep my eyes on the food.
It's almost like he can see everything. It's like I am naked in front of him. It's not a good feeling.
"You should know that I can't lie."
His words makes me look up at him with a puzzled expression. "You can't or you won't."
"My parents taught me the essentials of telling the truth and I guess I honour their teaching by keeping to it. It reminds me of them and overtime it became one with me so it's both. I can't lie and I won't lie."
I blink at him, once then twice, not knowing what to say next. "Do you... have a territory or something. Like a place you take care of?"
When I ask this question, I expect him to tense up but he is at ease and so relaxed that I am tempted to watch his every movement.
"In a way, yeah. I guess you could say that I am the god of the Fae Folks."
My eyes widen and the cutleries in my hands drop back on the table. "You- you're the god of what?"
He chews on his lower lip as he watches me. I don't know if he is amused or puzzled by my behaviour. "Yes, you know them as Feys or Faeries. Well, a lot of species created different names for them and I assume that they go as these names..."
A small grin spreads on my face and I think that I am beginning to feel excited. I lean closer to the table with speed. "How did they come to exist? Did you have to sleep with a woman or something?"
"No, I didn't sleep with anyone and to be honest, it's not that clear to me. It's been so many years and the memory has almost gone out of my mind."
"Almost! So it's not gone yet. Tell me, and I'll write it down in a book. You'll never forget it."
He sighs and smiles at me. "It's not that special, Isabella."
"Well, I want to hear it. I want to hear everything so don't leave a single thing out." I tell him. I can't believe you forget things when you are the god of time."
He chuckles. "And you think that will give me an advantage how? If you want to hear about this then you can search for it in the Fae Folks library."
He stands to his feet and starts gathering the plates, making me scowl.
"Oh come on. I am still eating and I wanna know from you. Please tell me." I pout. "I promise not to judge you if you slept with a woman."
He rolls his eyes. "I told you, I didn't sleep with anyone. It was an experiment okay?"
I smirk, resting my chin on my palm and I use the table to support myself. "Now hold your horses, you didn't tell me about the last one. What experiment are you talking about?"
"I was young and foolish." He rolls his eyes again and continues to pack the dishes. "I really don't want to talk about this. Not right now."
I notice the drastic change of his mood and decide to keep my mouth shut about the topic.
"Do you read people's mind?"
He pauses and I hear a heavy exhale leave his lips before he stops gathering the empty dishes. "Yes, it's one of my many powers."
"What else do you do?" My eyes twinkles suddenly. "Can you fly?"
"No, I can't." He lets out a small chuckle. "I don't have any wings so, no."
"You don't need to have wings to fly. Can't you like float or something?" When he continues to pack the dishes, I decide to help him and we manage to gather them and take them to the kitchen. The leftovers stare at me, begging me to eat them but right now, I am begging for answers.
"I am definitely not a superhero, Isabella." I can hear the smile in his voice as he moves to wash the dirty dishes and I smile too.
"But you're a god. That's more than a superhero, you're unique."
A few seconds ago, his hands were moving as he tried to wash away the dirt on the plates but now they stop and he turns his head, slightly to my direction.
"I don't think I am, Isabella." I hear a hidden emotion in his voice, it's too strong for me to not acknowledge it but I can't figure out what it is. "I'm just a normal guy who was just lucky. That's all."
His hands start moving again and he looks focused on his task. I don't know what makes me move but I find myself slowly hugging him from behind.
When I know what's happening, we are both tensed up. It isn't my wolf who did it, it's me and as his back moves I observe that he is relaxing slowly.
I press my face to his back and mumble lowly. "Then it's my job to show you how unique you are, Nathan. You're more than lucky."
