Chapter 13: Chapter 13

A week has passed and I am still staying with Andrew's family. A week that I haven't seen Nathan or Jasmine and though I try to hide my feelings at the back of my mind, it doesn't work that well.

The mate bond is pulling at me, making me think of him every second of the day and my wolf is doing more of the nagging.

Sheila's change is not really aparent and this confuses me. She suppose to be changing by now but she remains the same. It makes me wonder if I am doing anything wrong.

I try to assure myself that everything is fine because if I don't believe it, how will I make Andrew and his siblings believe it too.

Shelia. She's a beautiful girl, both inside and out. It's pretty obvious that she holds her family in her heart and she cares for them deeply. They all care for each other and it reminds me of my family.

My train of thoughts makes me wonder when I turned to this kind of girl. Normally, I don't think about all these things because it will brings out memories... Memories and feelings that I choose to bury down.

I can sense my wolf's curiosity at its peek and I shut her put before she can even say a word.

"You zone out a lot these days. Is anything wrong?"

I look up to see Shelia's eyes staring right at me and as usual, they hold so much wonder and concern.

I almost scoff at myself. It's strange how a little girl worries about me, when she should be worrying about herself. Her mumbles about knowing that she will die soon, hasn't stopped but she doesn't say anything like that when any of her siblings are close by. I respect her for that.

"Sorry about that. I'm finding it weird that I get lost in thought this days." I send her an easy smile. "Now, how are you doing. Does anything hurt."

She shakes her head. "Not really but I do know that my heart hurts when you and my brother act like there's nothing going on between the two of you."

My smile widens at her attempt. I'll just call it, one of her many ploys to get me to go on a date with her oldest brother.

"There's nothing going on between us, Shelia. I give you my word." I assure her, for the hundredth times. It's probably more than that. "If you want me to go out with anyone here then perhaps I would choose your youngest brother, Todd but that would look like child abuse so I'll wait till he is older."

Her eyes sparkles as she leans forward on her bed, she is unconsciously rubbing her hands on her bedsheets. It's a habit of hers that I have come to know. When she is been a pester, she does this but what I don't know is the emotions that triggers it.

"You're just trying to throw me off you and my brother's case." She argues, squinting her eyes at me and I laugh at her funny she looks.

"No, you're the one trying to throw me towards your brother." I counter back and then, with a low voice, I say. "I'm starting to wonder if he is the one who is making you do this."

"That's absurd. He didn't put me through anything, I am just helping him out. Since he seems to have lost his sense of taste, it is my job to bring him back to his senses." She throws the covers off her body and jumps to her feet, her hands placed on her waist as she turns her face towards the wall at the right of the room.

"You look like a super hero." I giggle as I watch her in amusement. "A supper hero hell-bent on getting her brother a mate."

When I say this her once lighted up face crumbles into a small frown. She tilts her head. "What is a mate?"

I stand on my feet with a sigh before I walk to her and help her get down from the bed. It's almost as if it squeaks happily at me.

"A mate is something that most supernatural beings have. I wouldn't say that they are a thing, it's more like a person and this person is the other half of a supernatural being's soul."

"A person who is the other half of someone else. That's strange." She mutters under her breath. "I'm guessing that theses people are made for each other. They complete each other?"

I nod and ruffle her hair. "Look at you go! You're picking up so fast, little smartie pants."

She frowns at the nickname. "You do know that I am 15, a fully grown woman and not a dog."

"You're a teenage. It's cool to be a teenager, I am one myself." I say, not looking surprised when her eyes begin to sparkle.

She is in her teens but most of the time, her behaviour makes me wonder if she is really one. She acts like a child and I have a feeling that she didn't really have much of a childhood. I hope that I am wrong thought.

"I'm going to let this pass because you're also a teenager like me, even though you don't look that age..." She paused. "You aren't really a teenager, are you?"

I laugh silently. "No, I'm in my twenties."

"Well, that explains a lot but what it doesn't explain is why humans don't have mates like supernatural people do."

I don't bother to correct her as I go straight to the point. Shelia's a lost cause when it comes to listening to corrections. If she doesn't want to do it, then she won't.

"Actually, humans do have mates. I believe that every being on the planet does." Somehow this includes gods. "Humans don't have the ability to sense their mate and this results in them settling down with the wrong person. Most times, some humans are lucky enough to end up with their mates."

"So, I won't be able to have my mate, right?" She questions. "I'll be dead soon but will my mate be able to have another mate?"

"I think so..." I don't have the courage to tell her that she might not find her mate. It's very uncommon for humans but it's not rare. "But you won't die, remember that."

"Okay?" She raises her eyebrow. "I guess that it's time to take my syprup right?"

"Yes, I think it is time too." I nod. "Just stop squeezing your face like that."

I rinse my hands in the water and use a towel to dry it after that.

"What are you doing behind me now. Can't you sleep anymore?"

I hear a laugh and it comes closer in the next second, making me turn to its direction. My eyes squint at the dark even though I can see properly in the dark.

"Why am I not surprised." The laughter continues. "I was planning on surprising you but you just sniffed me out in a matter of seconds."

"I actually sensed your presence first." I don't bother to explain more because I know that he won't understand and it will cost me to answer more questions.

"So you sense people's presence and also smell them. That's cool."

"I also heard you coming in. Your footsteps aren't quiet at all and please close the door more gently next time." I move away from the sink and pass him, walking into the room.

"Shelia's asleep and so are your other siblings." I move away from the sink, walking into my bedroom. "Now, why are you here."

He watches me as I take a sit on the bed and I stare back at him, waiting patiently for an answer.

"When a turning werewolf slashes someone with their claws, will the wound start growing after a week?" He says, trying to be subtle but I catch on the meaning quickly.

"What?" I rush to him and raise his shirt up, revealing a dark purple colour splattered around the claws marks on his stomach. The thing that shocks me is that they are triple the size of before.

He looks down at me and I hide my panic.

"That's not a good look." And he begins to panic.
