Chapter 11: Chapter 11
"We aren't lost, I know the way back." Andrew tells me as he begins to walk.
"Are you sure? If you take a wrong step we could be lost even more."
I can't believe that I placed myself in this kind of situation. I am a werewolf but not the best tracker. Damn, my senses should be more stronger that a normal werewolf's own.
"I won't take a wrong step because I know where I am heading to. I only acted like I didn't so that you would freak out." He laughs.
"You do know that I can kill you with a few slashes of my claws, right?"
"You don't know how to threaten people, lady. Now come on or I will throw you over my shoulders." He says and I blink.
"I don't think that would be appropriate or needed. We can go now." I follow him slowly. "Please don't test my patience, I have a little amount of that."
"Knowing that you are the princess. I don't want to test you at all." He shiver in front of me. "Just trust me and follow me."
"Well, I don't trust you." I mutter under my breath, knowing fully well that he won't hear me. "Lead the way."
"I have been doing that since we started talking." He says.
He appears smug when we arrive back at his home. "Oh, look where we flew up to."
He opens the door and we walk inside. I take a moment to study his home for a moment. The decor and furnitures strikes me with no clue on who these people are.
Yes, they are humans but I don't really know their origin or story. So how will I know if I can trust them. I just have to manage what I know for now, they will lead me from where I came soon enough. Right now, all I know is their names.
"Wait here, I'll go get them." He says before he disappears into another room. When he gets back, he is still alone.
"Where is he? Is your brother not helping me out."
"He had so much to eat that he is now asleep, well, both of them passed out on the floor of their bedroom." He chuckles, his head a little tilted upwards. "In a way, I knew this would happen. They always get like this once they get filled up with food."
"So that means that I won't get back until they wake up." I sigh. "And since it is likely to get late soon, I will have to stay here for the night."
Just great. I know when to put myself in a stupid situation. My mind wanders to what Nathan will do once he finds out that I am gone. If luck is by my side, he won't be back till I arrive back safely.
"I can get you a blanket and some fresh clothes if you like. You are now my guest and it would be a pleasure to serve you." He bows and I begin to panic.
"Er- that's alright. You don't need to bow." I let out a nervous laugh. "I am just a normal person like you, no need for formalities."
Shockingly, he raises his head to look at me and he winks. "I'm kidding, I only wanted you to loosen up a bit. You act like you are about to go for war or something like that." He straightens up. "Now, follow me, Isabella."
Not minding his trick, I do as he says and he leads me to a room along the long hallway. This place reminds me a bit of my room back at Nathan's place.
"I hope it's to your taste." He tells me when he opens the door. "Call me if you need anything else. Just holler from the hallway and I will be here in a second."
"Thank you." I express my gratitude as I step into the room. "I'm guessing that you dropped a few of your clothes for me."
"Nothing can get passed you, can it." He laughs. "I'll be going to bed now. I have nothing to do anyway."
He walks away without another word, leaving me puzzled on what to do next and I decide to follow what Andrew says he will do.
Go to bed...
I don't sleep for long, I am restless. Staying in a different environment is hard for me to cope with. I think that I was able to cope with staying at Nathan's place because he was around but this isn't his place...
My sleeplessness wills me to get out of the room and to move around, so I obey. I walk into the hallway that's dark and I close the door behind me.
The darkness isn't as thick as I thought it would be. The little sparkles of moonlight from outside is finding its way in here and the air here is refreshing. I never thought that living close to the sea would be this nice.
I walk down the hallway and come across another dark path but I doubt that's what it is.
I think it's a small room... In fact, it is the place that I stepped in first, the living room.
Irrespective of the dark and the new air changes, I notice the figure seated on the ground and my lips tucks upward.
"You couldn't sleep too?" I ask as I walk to him and lower myself to the same position.
I sense it when he raises his head and stares back at me in the dark. Though his eyesight is a hundred times lower than mine, his eyes still sparkles vibrantly in the dark though I doubt that he can even see my face properly.
"I have a hard time sleeping everyday, so I come here to unwind my pent-up energy. I can't say that it works out all the time." Andrew answers me almost immediately.
"Everyday, you say." I raise my eyebrow. "So how do you sleep if you can't release this pent-up energy."
My mind wanders to ways that I can help release it for him but my wolf growls at me before I can suggest anything. And so... I remember that I have a mate now. Sleeping with another man will be like cheating on him but it's not like I wanted a mate in the first place...
My wolf growls loudly this time and I shut my eyes.
I want a mate but again, I don't trust him. He is a god and who knows what he is planning. He won't tell me anything about himself and I am sure that is not only what he is keeping from me. I won't be shocked if he turns out to not be my mate.
"Nights like that I don't sleep at all. I find myself watching over my sister." I can see him smiling in the darkness.
"A younger sister?" I didn't see her when I came around in the day and I don't think I sensed someone other than the three of them. "Or an older one?"
"A younger one, of course. The youngest of my siblings, her name is Shelia. She mostly stays in her room."
"The way you talk about her makes me know that something is wrong with her." I say once I notice his strange mood.
His head is handing low and his fists are clenched by his sides. Something is bothering him, I can tell and it may have something to do with this sister of his.
"She has been really sick for a while and the doctors all said that the illness is rare and can't be treated. I can't say more than that because she can be listening in on us." He explains.
"My kingdom acquires advance technology." I say as I stand to my feet and extend my arm to Andrew. "So come show me what's wrong with your sister and I will see what I can do to help."
I hear a small gasp before he raises his head to look at me. He appears to be having an inner battle as he stares at my outstretched arm intensely. I believe that he agreed because in the next minute, he takes a hold of my hand and stands on his feet.
"Alright then." I can see that he is trying to be carefree again but his emotions are getting in the way. "Just don't run away when you see her."
He tries to joke but I sense that it is more than a joke. It may be true. Do people really run away when they see his sister? What's so bad about her appearance?
"I won't promise you that but I will try my best." I tell him when he starts leading me through the dark.
He seems to know the place to go, irrespective of the fact that he is not seeing properly. This is his house and it's good that he knows the way around without seeing it.
We stop in front of a normal door and he tries to remove any doubt from his mind as he inhales. Finally, he twists the knob open and leads me in.
The smell in the room almost knock me off my feet before I fully step in. Just a whiff of it is able to leave me in some kind of shock. It's not like it is bad or good, well, that's the thing, I don't know if it's bad or if it's good.
I don't concentrate on the smell when I see her. A little girl. She's sleeping, her brown eyebrows furrowed, her nose scrunched up and her lips formed into a frown.
Whatever she must be dreaming is not good. When she makes a grunt from the back of her throat, I understand that she is in pain.
I step forward, aware of Andrew's eyes on me in the dark. They are sparkling and yet he can't see me properly. Humans...
"Let me take a look at her." I tell him before I step more closer to his sister. The last thing I want him to do is throw a fist. He is already too protective of her as it seems.
She grunts again and move her head to the side, her brown hair glittering in the moonlight as beads of sweat covers her face.
"Does the moonlight help her condition?" I ask Andrew once I notice that her window is open, revealing the moon and it shines gently on her body.
I feel Andrew shift behind me.
"I don't know. She likes to stare at the moon when she wakes up at night, that's why I leave the windows open."
I hum, like it's the most interesting thing I have heard all day.
Slowly, I place my hand on her stomach and raise up her shirt.
"When did the illness begin to affect her?" I ask him and he answers quickly but quietly.
I take it that he doesn't want to wake her up. Then I should be careful not to do that too.
"Erm, a month ago."
"As I thought." I say, staring at her rough skin. Four deep claws mark. They are deep but clean. "And I believe you saw this? It's a werewolf bite. She was bitten by a werewolf."
Beside, the claw marks is a full set of teeth marks. Teeth marks that only a werewolf has. I would know that.
A human's teeth are not like a werewolf's own, and here I thought that there wasn't any werewolf other than me that stayed here.
"She was attacked." I say when I don't hear his voice, when I don't receive his answer. "And this is the symptoms of her shift. She is about getting her wolf and since you have taken good care of her wounds, she won't be affected by any diseases."
Still no answer.
I scoff with a roll of my eyes. It's probably because he is in shock.
Nevertheless, I continue to explain everything to him. "It's too late for her to fight the change. If you would have known the real thing sooner, you would have stopped the change but it's been a month now and her change is sure." He moves closer to me but I don't stop. "You're lucky that you found me, you would've been in trouble if she started turning earlier."
"She's going to be a werewolf?" I hear his small whisper. It's calm and gentle. I know that's the opposite of what he is feeling right now. "She's not going to be human anymore."
"I'm sorry. I know that this must be hard for you. The best thing to do is hope she gets through it without much pain and be glad that I am here to help." I skim my fingers past the bite as gently as I can. "And she has werewolf hearing now, so be careful of what you say around the house. Lastly, she was never asleep."
In the next second, two dark eyes are staring back at me and I watch the two black orbs with the same intensity.
I hear Andrew gasp and I also sense him take several steps backwards. This makes the eyes turn to him.
"Don't move. Stand still." I inform him and the two black orbs turn back to me.
He doesn't listen to me. He is been motivated by his emotions, by fear but I know that he hears me.
"Andrew." My voice comes out in a warning tone. "Do not move or she wil-"
I hear a growl before a quick feel of the wind reaches me and I sigh.
He moved and she responded with an attack.
Damn it.
I glare at the empty bed in front of me and then turn to glare at the girl who once occupied it. She is standing on both feet with her hands far off from her body, showing her claws and she snarls at Andrew.
Before the little girl can go any further, I rush to her side and grab her hands, causing her to growl at me.
Andrew fear fills the air as he rushes to the door. I frown in his direction, making sure that I am not using my full strength on the little girl's hands.
"I told you to stop moving. Why can't you listen." I hiss in his direction. "Do you want to get yourself killed."
Suddenly, the little girl begins to struggle, she tries to claw at me and I move back before she can reach me, unfortunately, she gets free in the process.
I expect her to come after me but she rushes to Andrew with so much speed that I couldn't keep up and it caused me.
It caused me because she manages to slash Andrew with her claws before I can get the hold of her again.
And as I try to restrain her, Andrew begins to bleed out on the floor, the smell of fear is more evident now.
"Curse you, wolf."
My wolf smiles in my head, she knows I am talking to her. "I didn't do anything bad. I just decreased your speed a little and gave the little champ a great starting point. Bravo!"
I grunt at her reply.
