Chapter 27: Chapter 27
“Who… who are you?" I asked in fear as I grabbed the empty flower vase lying on the nearby table.
The man turned to face me and I was able to see his face. I think I've seen him somewhere. Nevertheless, I was still vigilant…. If he poses any threat, I will use my weapon on him.
Seeing the stern look on my face and the way I positioned my weapon, his pupils dilated in something I couldn't comprehend before he spoke up, “Calm down ma'am, I'm Victor… your husband's driver and a friend."
Hearing what he said, I was slightly convinced because his face looks familiar. I still didn't drop my weapon as my eyes were stuck on him. I want to be sure he's one of the men I saw with my husband when we travelled to London before I could relax and drop my weapon.
“Constance."
I heard my husband's voice. I turned to look at him.
“He's my driver, so drop your weapon," he added.
I bite my lips feeling a bit embarrassed. Well, I was only trying to be vigilant. I stare at the man.
“I'm sorry," I mumbled and dropped the flower vase, the man only nodded to my apology…. He looks like someone that doesn't speak much, just like my husband.
“Go get the car ready, we are going back to the mansion," my husband said to the tall brown skinned man. He nodded and walked away.
He turned towards me and said,“Here, I bought you some clothes… go put it on so we can leave."
He gave me a fanciable paper bag. I collected it from him and walked back to the room. So he left to buy some clothes for me? How thoughtful of him. It never occurred to me that he will act so nice, my husband is definitely acting strange.
I wanted to ask him to lend me his phone so that I will call Jocelyn but I shrugged it off, he might not want to share his phone with me.
The simple but yet beautiful pink dress he bought for me fitted perfectly on my milky body, I can't believe he knows my size. The quality of this dress shows that it must be expensive.
..
The drive back to the mansion was silent. My husband was on his phone throughout the drive, the only thing I could do is stare out through the car window. After the long and boring drive, we finally arrived at the mansion.
“You can go ahead, I need to go somewhere," my husband said when we arrived at the family's mansion. I just nodded without saying anything.
I stepped out from the car and watched as it drove out from the same gate it drove in a while ago.
Entering the house, I saw Hannah. Finally, she's back. I was happy to see her.
I went to grandfather's room and he was finally relieved when he saw me. I spent some time with him before using the family's landline to call Jocelyn.
“Hello Jocelyn, is me Constance," I said through the phone.
“What! Constance. My dear friend, are you okay, did something bad happen to you? You suddenly vanished from the party and I was dead worried. I'm even on my way to report your missing to the police. I wanted to do that last night but my friends stopped me, they said it is too early to make a missing report. I couldn't sleep all night. You don't know how happy I am to hear your voice. Tell me Constance, what happened?"
She asked countless questions as she rushed off her words. I could imagine how worried she has been since last night. I felt guilty about it but it's actually not my fault for making her so worried because I didn't disappear from the party on my own will.
“I'm fine Jocelyn. I'm sorry I made you worried, I will tell you what happened at school, I called to tell you that I'm fine because I know you must be worried about me."
“I was really worried but now I'm relieved knowing that you are okay. What made me so worried was because you left your porch and phone behind so it made me believe that something bad happened to you because even if it was an emergency you had and needed to go, you will definitely go with your porch and phone.
“Brandon said that you staggered towards the restroom and didn't return afterwards. We checked the whole available restroom, looking for you but couldn't find you. It left us all worried and this morning I was in a rush to go report the case to the police," she said through the phone
After talking with Jocelyn through the phone, I returned to my room. She told me that she's with my phone and I was glad. I don't want to lose that phone, it is a special gift from grandfather.
..
Annabelle was in panic, she's just coming back from the hospital where the man whom she paid to take advantage of Constance was confined.
Instead of receiving countless nude photos of Constance on a bed with that good for nothing man, she received a call from the waitress, she paid to add something into Constance's drink.
The waitress told her that she went to check how the plan was going but rather found the man unconscious, they snuck him out through the back door with the help of her bodyguards and took him to the hospital.
When the fool regained consciousness this morning, he told her what happened. He said he couldn't see the face of the man that beat him up and nearly killed him when he was trying to carry out the plan.
Annabelle felt that the man must be Jace, that's why she's in panic. If that man turns out to be Jace, then she's in great trouble… he will definitely not forgive her, not when it looks like he has started feeling something for that wife of his.
She was so jealous and didn't think twice to do something despicable to that girl but she doesn't regret what she did. The only thing she regrets is that the plan didn't work.
She couldn't believe that Jace had fallen for that girl. The look in his eyes when staring at her, says it all. He hasn't realized his love for the girl and Annabelle wanted to stop him from doing so. She believes that gathering the nude pictures of that girl on a bed with another man other than her husband will make him see her as a cheap whore and that will kill any type of love feelings he's having towards her. She planned on sending the pictures to him through a fake email but everything was ruined. How can this unfavorable happen to their brilliant plan.
'What if Jace was the one that beat up that man? Oh no! I hope he's not the one. But even if he's the one, he won't know that I have a hand in it' she mumbled within herself.
Having this thought she was able to calm down and her panic ceased. No need to panic, Jace doesn't know anything…. He doesn't know she made such a plan. She was careful not to let the plan trace back to her.
But her mind abruptly flinched greatly when she heard a knock on her apartment door. She wonders who it could be because she isn't expecting any visitors.
She was hesitant to go open the door but later she did. Her heart nearly jumped out from her chest when her eyes fell on the enraged face of Jace. The rage in him was vivid on his face.
“Jace," she stuttered and tottered backwards, her eyes full of fear. Could it mean that Jace knew the truth? But how? Her plan was so smooth and can't trace back to her, so how did Jace find out?
Jace walked into her apartment with a very stern face, he was clearly angry. The deadly look on his face made Annabelle gulp down in fear and her heart started beating nervously.
“Why did you do that?" Jace's voice was so frigid. His dark eyes have darkened more due to anger.
Jace knew what she did but how? Since he knew what she did, he must be the one that beat up that useless man. She gulped down in fear knowing the trouble she has gotten herself into. Jace is a very powerful man, so powerful than she is. He can ruin her life by just a snap of his finger.
How can her own plan backfire on her, how did Jace know of her plan and stop it before it could hatch and now he came enraged, she wonders what he's going to do to her.
Something rang to her mind, how did she not think about that. Jace's eyes were on that wife of his during the party and he couldn't even bat an eye. Maybe he saw the girl when she tottered towards the restroom and he followed her. Yes, that must be how he found that man before he could rape that girl.
She didn't see Jace go after that girl because she didn't pay attention. After watching the girl pass through the brown door that led to the restroom, her attention left there as she called that useless man to remember their plan because their target was on her way.
How can she be so careless, why didn't it occur to her that Jace went after his wife when she looked at the position he was sitting and didn't find him there. She thought he has already left the party because Jace is not someone that enjoys a party and can't spend much time in one.
But even if Jace saw the man trying to rape his wife, how did he know that she was the one that paid the man to do so.
That stupid man… he must have ratted her out.
She stares at Jace's stormy face. How can she save herself from Jace's wrath? Jace is still angry with her for what she did back in London and now she has committed another offence, will he forgive her?
“I asked you a question Annabelle!" Jace's angry voice hollers as he grips her two shoulders in fury, his blazing eyes boring into her. “How wicked are you Annabelle, you paid a man to rape an innocent girl. You are a woman, how will you feel when you're raped!"
Annabelle was drowned in fear. She has never seen Jace this way… he looks like a furious devil, right now she fears for her life.
