Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Karen's POV

It felt like I didn't sleep at all, dad took almost the whole night talking to me before he left. Yawning, I got up and stretched my hands. I gazed at Brody who was still sleeping and walked out of the room.

The whole house was quiet until I got downstairs and met Aunt Patricia, she had already seen me and ignoring her would be rude. "Good morning, aunt Patricia."

She frowned at me. "I don't need you to greet me," she muttered and placed the pillows correctly on the sofa. "You've managed to make everyone like you but your charms won't affect me."

My eyes widened, I didn't use charms on anyone. Why did she hate me so much? "I haven't done anything."

"Yes, you've done something and you've brought down the esteem of our family. You're nothing but a stupid lady who fell in love with a fool."

I didn't want to keep quiet again and I wouldn't tolerate her insulting me. Even though it was a contract, her insults were getting too much. "Ma'am, my love life should not be your concerned."

With that, I walked out of the house and found Bill driving into the compound. "Hi," I muttered.

He hugged me immediately and I pushed him slowly. "Are you insane? What if someone had seen us together?" I asked him, angrily looking around to see if anyone was watching us.

"Well, I was so anxious to see you, I didn't even close my eyes for a second. I just wanted to see you. I'm totally in love with you and your smiles just makes me happy."

"I felt the same way for you until I met Brody," I knew what I felt for Brody and I knew it was true love. I had finally accepted the fact that I was in love with him. "I'm in love with Brody and I'm not lying to you. Although I don't know if he feels the same way for me but my love for him is greater than yours. My dad was right, how could I not fall in love with him?"

Bill took hold of my hand and placed it on his chest. "Look, my heart beats for you anytime I see you. I'm totally in love with you, I can't afford to lose you."

I faked a smile. "You're married with two lovely kids."

"I'm getting a divorce because of you."

I took a few steps back, surprised. "How can you say this? I didn't ask you to do that because of me." I told him.

"Think about the kids, why do you think they locked us in my room the last time you came? They obviously want us together."

"No, that's not the reason we were locked in that room. You've brainwashed your kids and I don't know what to say but you're a bad father. I'm sure you were the one who asked them to lock us in that room because you asked me to follow you to your bedroom and I did."

He laughed and looked at me with a smirk. "Karen, you never cease to amaze me. It was just a coincidence. I didn't ask those kids to do anything."

"I'm no longer interested in you."

"Hope you know that I won't renew the contract when it stops."

I chuckled. Was he really dumb or trying to be dumb? "Mr Bill, you're not even a lawyer. You're just a therapist who advised me."

He held me violently and I winced in pain. "If you try anything funny, I'm going to kill you and make sure you're gone forever." He threatened and my heart shattered.

"What are you doing?" Brody asked loudly as he came out of the house and pushed him. I stepped back and hugged Brody.

"Stay out of this, it's not your business." Bill warned him.

"I want to cancel the contract." I announced.

Brody looked at me, shocked. "Karen, what are you saying? You can't possibly cancel the contract because of this. I don't want my parents to suspect anything." He said with teary eyes.

I was totally confused. I wanted to be safe from trouble and I knew that Bill was a psycho. "You can't cancel the contract because it's not yet over." Bill explained.

Brody gave him a punch on his face and Bill staggered. "You idiot, I'm not joking this time. Stay away from Karen, she doesn't love you."

Bill spat on the floor and narrowed his eyes at me. "The next time you would be hearing from me is soon and you'll be all dead by that time."

"Are you threatening me?" I asked him.

He chuckled and entered his car. Giving me a smile that seemed fake, he drove out of the compound. "Brody, are you alright?" I asked.

"I'm fine." He answered with a smile.

"We should just stop this contract, we're hurting each other." I suggested.

He hugged me. "I'm so attached to you, I don't want you to leave me yet."

"I won't." I assured him.

He gave me a quick kiss on my lips and walked in. My heart skipped a beat when I remembered Bill's threat. He was a criminal and his children were in danger. I ran inside the house and met Brody sitting on the sofa. "Bill's children might be in trouble."

He looked at me with shock. "What do you mean?"

"Bill might be a criminal and also a therapist. I don't know what I'm saying but his children's life might be in danger." I answered.

He paused, surveying my words. "Alright, I'll head over to the cops and file a complaint."

"I'll come with you."

He shook his head. "No, it's not advisable for you to come with me. Stay home and help mom, I'll be back soon."

I nodded and watched him leave the house. I had never been so worried before but his threats just seemed to haunt me. Diego came out of his room and smiled at me. "Hi Karen, how are you doing?" He asked.

"I'm .... I'm....." I stammered.

He chuckled and hugged me. "We're planning something special for you and although it's a secret I want to tell you."

I shrugged and sat down. "What's that?"

Helen came out of his room interrupting our conversation. "I didn't sleep well," she murmured. "Diego," she called out with a yawn. "Go to your room and dress up, we're all going somewhere." She ordered and Diego ran back into the room.

"Good morning, Helen." I greeted with a broad smile. "Should I also get ready? Where are you guys going?" I inquired.

I wondered what he wanted to tell me before his mother interrupted him.

"No, it's a surprise for you. You should stay at home." She answered with a smirk.

"That's great. I can't wait to see the surprise."

She smiled. "Believe me, you would love it. Where's my brother?" She asked.

"Huh, he went out to meet someone, he would be back soon." I informed her.

She giggled excitedly. "Fine, I'm sure you'll be excited when you see the surprise. I don't want to tell you now."

I nodded with a smile.
