Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Brody's POV

The atmosphere suddenly seemed boring and my mother climbed down from the stairs already dressed up in a long red gown for the party. "You look ravishing, mom." I commented.

"Thanks, you should probably get ready for the party too. The guests would be here soon."

I smiled at her. "You don't have to be so anxious, I'll certainly dress up early for the party."

"Did you see the makeup artist I brought for Karen?" She asked.

I nodded. "I'm sure Karen would look fantastic." I told her with a smile. I was trying to make her happy and also like Karen. I just didn't understand why she disliked her

"You night be right but her poverty has covered her beauty." She murmured.

I became offended at her scolding words. "You don't have to insult her, she's also a human like you."

"I never said she was an alien." Mom retorted.

"Mom, I don't…."

She interrupted and aggressively whispered to me. "I don't like that girl."

"It's really difficult to put up with things at work." I murmured, changing the subject.

Karen walked down the stairs and I almost wanted to hug her immediately. The make-up artist made her look more beautiful. "Wow, I'm amazed by your stunning beauty."

She blushed and I placed a kiss on her forehead. "Mom, how does she look?" I asked and almost regretted my question.

My mom gave her a scornful look before answering me. "The clothes look good on her but her personality is bad. You can easily change clothes but you can't change her from being poor." My mom insulted her and climbed the stairs.

Looking at Karen, I suddenly felt sorry for her. "I'm sorry for my mother's behavior." I pleaded on her behalf.

She sat on the sofa and avoided my gaze. "I expected her to get angry." She simply replied.

I suddenly felt like a fool for apologizing to her. "I'm sorry for what you're going through, I know I shouldn't have informed you about my family before you signed the contract but I was confused. I didn't know what I was doing."

She looked at me with an angry expression. "Of course, I'm happy you know that it's your fault and not mine, if you had told me about your family, I wouldn't have even bothered to sign that motherfucking contract."

"I didn't force you to sign." I reminded her.

She scoffed. "I didn't want to sign but I decided to pity you because I knew that no lady would want a rapist as a boyfriend."

I frowned. Why was she still angry at me? She was drunk that night and wouldn't even know if something happened. "We didn't have sex and I'm not a rapist."

She laughed. "I woke up in the morning that day and you were not around, I was half naked when I woke up. What does that imply to a normal human?"

"You were drunk that night, you didn't even know what you were doing. I've told you the truth and I don't care if you believe me or not." I told her, sternly.

The door opened and Helen walked in with her bag. "Hey guys," She muttered and hugged me. Turning to look at Karen, she giggled excitedly. "I can't wait to get to know you. I had to come home early for the party, I didn't want to miss the fun."

Karen shot me an irritated look before looking at my sister. "I'm sorry but I don't know you."

Helen looked at me confused. "Why didn't you tell her about me?" She asked me and I couldn't even answer.

Silence draped the atmosphere. "Where's mom?" She asked.

"Upstairs," I answered, thinking of lies to tell Karen but I couldn't find any. "Mom's upstairs and your son is in his room." I told her.

"That's wonderful."

"Are you going to stay for long?" I asked.

"Yeah, I guess so."

The maids brought in her luggage and took it to Diego's room. I stole a glance at Karen, she was shocked on seeing Helen's luggage. Helen quickly climbed the stairs to look for mother.

I turned to face Karen. "I'm so sorry, I can explain what's going on."

"Who's she?"

"Okay, her name's Helen, she's my junior sister and also the mother of diego." I explained briefly wondering if she would understand.

"When is your dad coming?" She asked, sarcastically.

"I didn't plan for this, they all wanted to meet my girlfriend and I didn't have one, I decided to offer that huge amount of money to anyone who can pretend to be my girlfriend."

"Really?" She mocked.

My face darkened in anger. "Are you even considerate?"

"I'm better than a liar. You didn't tell me that your family would be coming to visit you."

I needed to explain things to her because she didn't understand. "This is a family house and there's nothing wrong if my parents come here. I don't know why you're getting annoyed unnecessarily."

She cleared her throat and occupied a seat. "What was the agreement?" She asked.

"Bill read out the terms and I have the right to bring my family to this house. This is not your house so you shouldn't be annoyed at what I'm doing."

"Why shouldn't I be annoyed? You didn't tell me your mom was coming. She came and started making preparations for a party. I found Diego when I entered your house for the first time and now, your junior sister is here." I looked at her with a frown. "Who else should I expect?" She asked rudely?"

"Maybe my younger brother also." I joked and she threw a pillow at me with a smile on my face.

"You're really handsome and believe me, I'm not lying." She muttered.

"That sounds great."

She gave me a seductive smile. "The contract was worth signing." She muttered. "Was it worth it?"

"No but the money was worth it, we're in a fake relationship and we can't love each other." She answered and I turned towards the stairs and found Diego staring at us. I stood up, shocked.

Did he listen to all our conversations? "Diego, have you been standing there for a long time?" I asked, sacred and he nodded.

"What did you hear?"

He chuckled and walked towards Karen, she carried him and he sat on her lap. She looked at me and I stared at her blankly. I hoped he didn't hear everything.

"I heard everything."

My heart skipped a beat. "I don't believe you."

"Yeah, I was sure you wouldn't," he replied with a smirk. "I heard about the contract. Karen signed a contract to be your fake girlfriend."

My heart almost shattered into pieces. He would certainly tell everyone everything. I had never been so scared in my life. "I didn't say that." I lied.

He chuckled. "I'm sure of what I heard. "Telling mom would be the right thing." He said and jumped down from her laps.

"You don't have to tell anyone anything, I'm begging you." Karen pleaded, almost crying.

I knew that she was more worried about the money I'll pay her for the contract. "Fine but I have a request to make."

"What's that?" I asked.

He giggled excitedly and pecked Karen. "I want the both of you to get married."

I was shocked by his request. "Are you...."

He interrupted. "Alright, we will but not now." I replied and avoided her gaze.

Diego nodded and went into his room.

I knew that I lied to him but I wasn't bothered, I didn't want him to tell my family about the contract. "We should get ready for the party." I told her.
