Chapter 10: Chapter 10

POV

I knocked on the door for about 2 minutes before Emily finally opened the door. "What were you doing?" I asked her and walked into house.

Throwing my bag on the table, I slumped down on the sofa tired. "That question should be directed to you." She answered.

I frowned, raising an eyebrow. "I don't really understand your point."

"Where have you been?"

I chuckled. "I came home this morning, I didn't meet you at home. I wondered if you didn't sleep here."

"I slept at Henry's apartment." She confessed and I rolled my eyes.

"Why?" I asked, surprised.

"I was scared of staying alone." She answered with a smirk.

I nodded and smiled at her. "It's your fault, you watched a horror film."

"I'm not the one who's at fault, what happened? Did you guys do anything?" I asked, sitting up. I wanted to hear everything that transpired between them last night.

She frowned. "The guy is a little bit dumb, the main reason I went to his house was to have fun and maybe on his bed too but he didn't understand or he didn't want to do it." She said.

I made an annoying noise which eventually turned into laughter. "Henry does seem like a virgin." I replied and she just shook her head.

"He doesn't seem like one, the worse part of it is that he slept in the parlor leaving me on his bed." She said in annoyance.

There was nothing I could do than just to laugh, I didn't really expect her to have interest in Henry who always behaved innocent. "I like guys like that, they don't take advantage of women." I told her.

She took a steadying breath and pushed her hair out of her eyes. "How was the party last night? Was Brody good?" She asked.

My face turned sour. "I actually pray we didn't do anything last night, I don't want to downgrade myself. I was too drunk to remember what happened."

"Too drunk?" She asked and I nodded. "I don't think there's any man who wouldn't take advantage of a drunk lady."

Fear iced through my veins. "I thought he took advantage of me but he denied it and Brody doesn't look like a cheat." I explained, my voice thin with stress.

She laughed. "I'm still happy for you, Brody seems like a cool man, he's actually great for you."

"Guess what!"

"I'm not good at guessing things, you know I'm always wrong." She replied.

"Alright, I'll help you then. Brody is the guy who wants a girl who'll pretend to be his girlfriend and I also signed the contract today.' I said.

She screamed excitedly and ran to the fridge, she brought out a chilled Apple juice and poured it into my blue mug. "This certainly calls for celebration," she said. "Brody's so hot, I can't imagine not dating him. If you'd come here without signing that contract, I would have sued you for denial of contract." She joked and gave me a congratulatory hug.

I chuckled and picked up the mug hurriedly gulping down it's content."

"Bill actually tried for you. I hated him before but now, I feel he's great."

Smiling, I stood up. "Bill has always been there for me, he deserves a good life." I muttered.

"Now, what's the contract amount? How much is Brody going to pay you for pretending to be his girlfriend?" She asked with enthusiasm and colour tinted my cheeks.

I exhaled slowly and made a dramatic illustration, I waved my hands in the air and screamed. "One million dollars."

"Hey, you'll attract robbers with the shout." She reminded me and my cheeks flushed red in embarrassment.

"I'm so sorry, I was really excited." I apologized.

"That's a huge amount of money, how many years?" She asked, her smile was beginning to feel a little frozen.

"Years?" I asked back with a smirk on my face.

"Yeah, how many years, the contract is not for a day, is it?" She inquired, a little fake sarcastic amusement drawn across her face.

I frowned. "The contract is for two weeks, I'm going to be his girlfriend for two weeks." I almost screamed again.

"Contract girlfriend." She said, irritation rasped in her voice.

"Yeah." I muttered with a sigh.

"This is great, I wish I got the contract but it's actually alright since you got it." She said and went to the kitchen.

I didn't actually get her last statement, wasn't she happy for me? I picked up my bag and climbed the stairs. "One millions dollars is not a small amount of money." I shouted walking into my room.

Dropping my bag on the bed, I took of my clothes. I walked into the whow and turned on the water. The water started off cold but quickly turned warm making me sigh.

I walked out of the bathroom after that quick bath and wore a pink gown, I looked at my face in the mirror and applied a slight makeup.

Walking out of my room, I climbed down the stairs and met Bill sitting on the sofa. He was alone staring at the television. "Bill?" I called out slowly.

He turned and met my gaze. "Hi Karen, you look really beautiful." He commended and I looked at my outfit and mouthed "Thank you."

I was still in shocked that he came to my apartment, "I'll like to take you out, we could just spend some time at my house." He suggested.

Frowning, I pondered on his suggestion. "It doesn't look like a good idea."

He smiled. "I just need someone to talk to and you're the only one, my daughter has been disturbing me, she wants to see her mother who doesn't want to see her." He explained.

I totally understood his pain but I couldn't help him. "I don't know how I can help you, Tricia is still a kid, she doesn't understand what's going on."

"She needs someone to talk to, my family is crumbling into pieces." He said, I could feel the pain in his heart, he definitely needed my help.

"It won't." I replied sharply.

"That's why you need to talk to her." He pleaded as tears tickled in his eyes.

I didn't want to see him crying. "Fine, I'll follow you to your house and talk to Tricia and Alvin but I can't promise you anything."
