Chapter 86: Chapter 86

After Jagad left Danas' room, Aleta looked at Danas with a suspicious look. She was really bothered by the relationship between the doctor and his son-in-law. Not that Aleta cared about Danas' love story or was against it. It was just that the old woman didn't like it when Danas paid more attention to the man than the child in her womb.

"This actually bothers me. But what do you've to do with that doctor?" Aleta asked Danas with a cold stare.

Danas was surprised. She didn't understand why her mother-in-law would ask such a question.

"We're just friends," Danas explained hesitantly. She didn't know if her mother-in-law would be satisfied with such an answer.

Aleta snorted in annoyance. "Actually, it's none of my business. You're free to have relations with anyone. However, I don't want you to pay more attention to your personal interests than my son's children. You should focus more on your pregnancy," Aleta explained firmly.

Danas felt a little sad. Because, more than anyone else, she felt that she really cared about the child in her womb. She didn't expect her mother-in-law to say something like that.

"I get it," Danas replied with a gloomy face.

Aleta let out a long sigh. Then she continued to lecture Danas about her pregnancy.

"You really are. I know that you don't like carrying my son's child, but that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. You've got to think about how outsiders will view your relationship. Remember! Even though you are a murderer, you are currently the wife of my son. The people in the hospital can see how the doctor treats you very special."

The old woman didn't stop saying how disturbed she was by the behavior that Jagad had directed towards Danas. Even if she didn't like Danas, it didn't mean she could take the closeness between her daughter-in-law and another man lightly. Aleta probably clearly didn't want to keep Danas. Moreover, for Aleta, the woman who should be her daughter-in-law is Renata. However, the sight of Jagad being so attentive and showing a very different gaze towards Danas disturbed her. As she said earlier, how would an outsider see such a thing? Outsiders who don't know anything will definitely think all kinds of things when they see the closeness of the doctor with someone else's pregnant wife. It's not a pretty sight. Then, of course, it would invite bad rumors.

But Danas herself didn't think that she had that kind of relationship with Jagad. Jagad was a good man. A hero-like figure who is always present when the woman really needs help. Not only that, Jagad was the older brother of her own best friend. There was no way Danas could ignore that man after everything she went through together.

The words of her in-laws really hurt her. As if, it was her who had betrayed him. As if Danas was the one who had tarnished the family's good name. In fact, it was her own son who did all that. How could Aleta say such things while her son brought another woman into his house? In a house occupied by his own wife as well. Even though Melvin hated his wife, that didn't mean he could do whatever he wanted, right? Just thinking about it made Danas feel really hurt. The people in Melvin's family really didn't consider him a human being. Just a piece of meat in charge of carrying a baby.

"If you really like that man, I won't stop you. In fact, it's better for you to leave immediately after giving birth to Melvin's child. I've already asked Melvin to divorce you after giving birth. So after that it's up to you," Aleta said in a harsh tone.

Danas had nothing else to say in reply to her mother-in-law's words. She was silent, then lost in thought.

Danas couldn't immediately reject Aleta's idea. Because, she too had thought about divorce. In fact, all this time he wanted to get out of that hell-like house. Heaven's torment was driving her crazy. Divorce was probably the best way. After all, the woman thought that all the torment had stopped recently not because Heaven had started to like her a little, but solely for the sake of the child she was carrying. Had she chosen to stay by Melvin's side, of course that hell-like life would've continued.

Even so, Danas' heart couldn't make up its mind. Even though her feelings for Melvin's release were great, that didn't mean she could immediately choose a way to be free from him. Unlike when she was not yet pregnant, now she will have a child. The child who is her flesh and blood. The child she always carried in her stomach while pregnant. Danas could not ignore that important fact.

Leaving the house meant giving up the right to be with the child she had worked so hard to conceive. Wouldn't that be very painful? Even if Melvin wasn't the man Danas loved, it didn't mean she could just let go of her child. And, it was clear that Melvin's family wanted to take the child without considering her feelings as the mother of the child.

Then the scene when the child was about to be born crossed Danas' mind. How would it feel to hold a baby? How would it feel to take care of a baby? It might make her anxious, but it was also something she was looking forward to. However, upon leaving Melvin's house, that scene would definitely never materialize.

Danas was then in a dilemma. Accepting the torment and accusations for the sake of caring and accompanying her child to grow up or accepting the pain of having to let go of her child and leave the house.

Neither of these choices seemed right. Everything would only hurt Danas. However, another thought came to Danas. Who was to say that if she chose to be with Melvin, she could raise her child too? If she stayed there, Melvin's family wouldn't necessarily let her touch the child when it was born. She could have received the pain of not being able to take care of the child despite living under the same roof. Wouldn't that be more horrible? Maybe she was better off divorcing Melvin and leaving the house.

While Danas remained silent, in the cool room, Aleta broke the silence. The old woman was curious because Danas had not replied to her.

"Why are you silent? Don't tell me that you want to stay together with my son?" Aleta snapped. The old woman snorted again. "There's no way I'm going to allow that. You really don't know yourself, do you? You killed my son. Now you want to be a bastard in our family. Remember! We don't care about you. Only the child in your womb. That's Melvin's child," Aleta explained, making Danas even more speechless.

Danas wondered why people could be so mean in saying things. She hadn't even said anything yet. Danas wasn't even finished with her own thoughts, but her mother-in-law was already accusing her of all sorts of things.

In the room where she lay down, Danas' feelings were again tossed around. She didn't know, why did she have to go through all that? Had she done something really bad that God had cursed her destiny? Whereas she felt that she had never done anything that bad to anyone else. She wasn't even a murderer but was treated like a criminal. However, even proving it was meaningless. This was because the people in Melvin's family only believed what they wanted to believe. Those who knew absolutely nothing just needed someone to blame.

Ah, what should I do? Will there ever be a day when I'll be happy? Danas thought.

She saw that her father-in-law kept grumbling. A lot. To the point, Danas was no longer able to digest anything Aleta said. The old woman spoke like a record that kept running. Not a single word was stored in Danas's mind because she felt completely exhausted by the ramblings of her mother-in-law.

Danas thought, maybe Aleta did like to babble the things that were on her mind. Maybe the old woman would feel relieved after spilling whatever she wanted to spill. Danas finally accepted the treatment as a form of release from Aleta.

Danas was probably very tired of the way Melvin and Aleta treated her. However, at the same time there was a speck of compassion inside. The family repeatedly treated her rudely. But the treatment was aimed at punishing the perpetrator. In fact, she wasn't the perpetrator. Didn't Melvin's family really feel sorry for him because they thought they had made the perpetrator suffer, while the real perpetrator was still alive and roaming free out there? Danas sometimes feels sorry because the family hasn't known the truth behind the death of their family member until this very moment.
