Chapter 79: Chapter 79
After Christina left the mansion because she was fired by Melvin, Danas felt that life here had become much harder. Losing the person who was the only one on her side was a big blow to the woman.
Melvin had now hired someone to take special care of her. More precisely, for the benefit of the baby-to-be.
"No need to bother. I can take care of myself," Danas said at the time.
"It's not for your sake, but for the sake of the baby in your womb. Melvin's child. My grandson."
Aleta's stern and emphasized words made Danas' guts shrink. Although it felt excessive, but she was not given the power to refuse.
"Okay ...."
And now a young woman, who Danas felt seemed to be around her age, had been hired not long ago as his nanny. Her name was Winda.
For some reason, Danas has felt strange since Winda started working there. Danas didn't know exactly what, only that he felt she didn't like her very much.
"Let me bring the bag, Mrs. ...." Winda approached Danas who had just returned from the hospital.
Danas handed her the bag. "Please."
Winda also walked beside Danas, while watching the pregnant woman's steps. Especially when they started to walk up the stairs to Danas' room on the second floor.
"Shall I make some milk, ma'am?" asked Winda again, offering to help. But for Winda, this was her duty.
"No, thank you. I just wanna rest now. Milk later, please."
Danas declined the offer politely. Yet, seeing the suddenly happy look on Winda's face made Danas once again feel strange about his servant's behavior.
" Okay. If you need anything, please just call me." Winda walked away from the door of Danas' room.
Danas walked over to the closet. She placed her bag on the table. She took out a change of clothes from the closet. After changing, Danas went to the bed and started to lie down.
She took out her cell phone and took a picture of the ultrasound that showed the silhouette of the baby in her womb. Then she sends the photo to Davina via a messaging app. After that, she puts the phone back on the nightstand.
After a while of lying down, her mind drifted. She thinks of whatever comes to mind. Nothing was very clear, just a series of flashes of scenes and thoughts that she couldn't figure out how to interpret.
Slowly drowsiness began to attack. A faint sound from a distance caught her sense of hearing. But Danas didn't care. She gave herself up to the drowsiness that plagued her.
Winda walked into the kitchen. She approached the refrigerator and took out a sealed bottle of mineral water from inside. With a little effort, she managed to unscrew the seal. Immediately she took a sip of the water. A cold sensation invaded her throat. The thirst he had been feeling earlier now instantly disappeared.
She placed the remaining half of the bottle on the table next to the refrigerator. Just as she was about to leave, a reprimanding voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Throw away the bottle if you don't use it anymore." One of the waiters, a little older than Winda, reprimanded her.
"What?" she asked in a higher tone of voice.
"Throw the bottle away if you don't use it anymore." The waiter repeated.
"Throw it away yourself." Winda replied with an annoyed look, then walked away.
"Gosh, what the hell?" the waitress complained after Winda left.
The waiter could only shake her head at Winda's behavior. Even though Winda was a new waitress working at the mansion, her behavior was already annoying and upsetting people.
Winda, who had behaved casually and didn't want to bother with things she considered trivial, casually walked to her room. The servants and workers at the mansion were not supposed to rest during working hours, but Winda, who was bored, wanted to take a nap first.
Just as she lay down for a few moments, someone knocked on her door. Annoyed that she was about to fall asleep, only to wake up to a voice at the door, Winda woke up with a rumbling feeling.
When the door was opened, a woman older than she was appeared with a stern, stiff face.
"Why are you here? Isn't it still your duty hours?" the woman asked.
She was the senior maid who had taken Christina's place since she was fired. Her responsibility was to organize the servants and make sure they were working properly.
"I just wanted to rest for a while," Winda argued.
"You can rest when your work hours are over." The woman said. And also... watch your attitude. Fix that way of talking."
After reprimanding Winda, the senior maid just walked away.
"Gosh... I'm just a maid. Why do you have to be so polite," Winda muttered, apparently still within earshot of the maid.
The senior waitress stopped and turned back towards Winda. Winda felt panic as she realized she'd blurted out.
"I wonder why someone like you is accepted to work here. People here should be strictly screened and required to have good manners and ethics. Even though we're 'servants', at least we're not lowly servants.
"Don't try to make excuses anymore. Hurry back to your post and don't come back here if your shift isn't over."
After saying that, the senior maid walked away with a stiff, polite manner.
Winda felt her heart inflamed. The butler's words really hurt her. Indirectly, she was said to have no ethics.
Winda slammed the door quite hard.
"Aarrggghhh, shit!" she swore.
She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Staring at herself. It was normal at first, but suddenly her anger was directed at herself.
"Why does it have to be like this?" she asked herself.
Actually, she didn't like working as a maid either. Even getting this job was difficult. Moreover, this was all just to support her family. She was forced to work hard and live a hard life so far.
All because of her father who liked to play gambling, was a drunkard, and light-hearted. When Winda was at home, she and her mother were often beaten.
All this time, she didn't know why she had to live such a miserable life. There were many other people who were luckier, but why was she the unlucky one.
When she first came to the mansion, she was shocked to find a reality that was beyond her comprehension. She was assigned to take care of the master's wife, the owner of the mansion, who was pregnant. Surprisingly, the master also had a mistress. And the great thing was, the mistress lived under the same roof with them, along with the pregnant wife and her mother.
But Winda didn't bother with that. What made her angry was that there were two women who were lucky enough to live a good life and be able to live in this magnificent mansion. Even though they were the same age as Danas and Renata. However, she was the only one who had to live a difficult life.
"This is so not fair," she muttered. The fists on either side of her body hardened. "If those two women can do it, I should be able to do it too. I'll do everything I can to be in their shoes!"
Winda was determined. Her eyes glared at her reflection. No matter what happened, she had to use her current situation to change her fate. Even if it meant seizing someone else's.
"I must become the madame of this mansion."
Davina had just come out of the bathroom. Her damp hair was wrapped in a head towel. She grabbed her cell phone from the bed because she saw a blink that signaled an incoming notification.
Apparently it was a message from Danas.
"Waahhh!" she exclaimed after seeing the message. "Jagad has to see this too!"
Davina immediately sent the ultrasound photo showing Danas' baby to her brother.
After dinner Davina approached Jagad to his room.
"Have you seen what I sent earlier?" Davina asked.
"Yes, I have," Jagad replied briefly.
Davina was disappointed with the flat response. She was surprised because she had previously expected that Jagad would be happy after seeing the photo. However, her brother didn't show any reaction. She couldn't guess what exactly was on Jagad's mind about the photo.
"What do you think, Sis?" asked Davina again trying to provoke Jagad further.
"Thankfully, the baby is healthy."
Again, an unremarkable response. Unlike usual, this time the look on Jagad's face was a little different.
Perhaps...
"Are you okay?" Now Davina asked carefully. She didn't want to accidentally hurt Jagad's heart.
"Yes, I'm okay. What's wrong with me?" Jagad asked back.
Davina felt lost. It was difficult to find an opening to ask further questions. It was as if Jagad himself did not want to be questioned anymore.
