Chapter 200: Chapter 200

“Stay here, babe. I will go get it for you,” Lucien hurriedly said when he saw Brianna was about to leave the room again.

“I will wait for you here then. Thanks, babe,” Brianna answered.

She did not insist because that was exactly what she was hoping would be his response to her pretense. And she was assuming the man would take some time before he got to return if he kept looking for a phone that was actually turned off and hidden in the cushions of the sofa she was seated on.

As soon as Lucien was far enough not to hear her words, Brianna spoke to the old Don.

“You might not like my idea, but if we want this matter dealt with as soon as possible, I need to go out there,” Brianna sat close to Leandro and stated firmly, although with due respect and manner.

“Oh, dear,” Leandro sighed defeatedly. “If only I can decide about that on my own…” the old Michaelson shook his head gently. He was not surprised Anna noticed the weird atmosphere, no matter how discreet he and Enzo tried to act in front of her. “To be honest, I would love the idea. And I am more than confident you will have the best moves and techniques to deal with this situation, but we have to consider your man’s word about this. Luci might agree with you just like me, but I have doubts he would ever let you step into the battlefield.”

Leandro smiled faintly.

“But I don’t blame him for that. I could bet with my life that I would do the same if I were in his shoes. And he is not even aware that I just said Tatum will get his mom and dad to take them here when the truth is, they were almost abducted when fake patients were sent to the hospital for them to execute an emergency surgery.”

Just as Brianna perceived, the situation was not very pleasant to stay idle like she was doing at the moment. If the enemy could get as close as to almost abduct the Michaelsons couple, the enemies are getting bold and desperate. It would be fatal if they took the matter lightly.

“I will talk to him about this. We have been to many battles, but things weren’t as crucial as to have any of our parents in such a dangerous predicament. As I have said, his family will be my family, and his enemy will be my enemy, but I am guessing we are having common enemies, so we better join hands and beat them for good,” Brianna said assuringly. “Uncle Matthew’s life will be in constant threat of danger if we do not finish our enemies this time.”

The Mafia Don nodded as he agreed to every word Anna was saying.

“I am with you. Believe me, I agree with you and all the points you mentioned, but just the same as I have said, we cannot decide things on our own. Well, at least, for me, I cannot speak for Luci. We have to consider his say on all of this,” Leandro stated warmly.

Once again, he was astonished at this young lady’s bravery. And if he would be frank, he was tempted to agree. But the guilt of sending her to a warzone where she might get hurt, or worse, she might die and not make it alive to return and marry his grandson Lucien, was like a sharp knife that stabs him fiercely. He, as a man himself, would never allow such things to happen. But as a man who is also aware of the young lady’s capabilities, it was a shame to let the chance of winning slip off his fingers.

If only Anna were still a mere missionary for hire like she used to be for Charles Anderson!

“Oh, by the way, I have something to….” Don Leon’s words were cut midair when someone spoke other than Anna.

“If grandpa allows me to go with you, I will not stand in your way,” Lucien said, smiling sadly. “I want to prove to you that I also want to stand for your family as they will also be mine from now on. If Uncle Matthew’s life is on the line, I should not stand in your way if you want to rescue him. I want to do the same for my mom and dad,” Lucien’s gaze turned from his beloved Anna to his equally beloved grandpa.

Leandro’s eyes widen in surprise. He looked around to silently ask the people surrounding them if anyone had told Lucien anything.

“Nobody told me,” Lucien shrugged his shoulders as he made his grandfather understand how he came to know what was going on.

Lucien recalled seeing Anna holding her phone when they stepped out of his car earlier, so he was going to remind her about it when he overheard Anna and his grandpa talking on his way back to the living room. Lucien was sure to say he did not miss anything about what the two were discussing about because he did not get to the main door on his walk to find Anna’s phone in his car when the man walked back.

The man was having an argument with himself about how to handle the situation. Having seen how Anna would deal with their enemies in the past, Lucien should be more than confident she would make it again this time.

But the fear of the unknown will always be dreadful for anyone. Because their so-called enemies are not small-time ones or easy to deal with. There had always been the shadow of death, and both of them had been shot in some episodes. There was no guarantee that this time nothing ugly would ever happen to her or to anyone on their team.

However, when Anna mentioned how she was going to defend and protect his family as hers, too, Lucien’s defenses to disagree melted. And when she mentioned that her Uncle Matthew’s life was also in danger, it gave Lucien the perfect cue to tell the two that he was aware of what was happening.

The young Michaelson did not want to show it, but when his call to his dad did not get answered, he was already having an unspeakable fear. His dad or mom would never let their phone take calls when they were on duty and could not answer any calls. They have their lines automatically directed to a voicemail which would tell the caller that they cannot answer the call but will get to return them if the caller leaves a message after a beep sound. It was a setting of their phone connected to their schedule when they stepped into an operating room to do their job. But the moment they stepped out of it, the call would return to its regular setup.

“Then, let’s get going. We are wasting time the more we stay idle here,” Brianna sprang up from the couch.

“I almost forgot, I had to tell you, I am not sure, but I have a feeling Charles Anderson is also behind this, watch out,” Leandro also stood up from his chair and was going to walk with the two youngsters to the door. “I am sure you trust your men, but still, I want to insist that you watch each other’s back out there, okay?”

“Speaking of trust, how come the enemy was able to get close to Luci’s mom and dad?” Anna asked as they started to leave the sitting room.

“We have a mole. And this mole seemed to have the way paved for our enemy to let them into the extent of knowing Levi and Sandra’s schedules,” Leandro answered. He clenched his jaw. “But it’s not a simple dishonesty and betrayal case. Please don’t be too upset about it. That is why I am reminding you to watch your back cautiously,” the old Michaelson said with a deep sigh.

“What do you mean, grandpa?” Lucien asked.

“You know I always have an eye on my household. Not just my family, I also keep an eye on our men every now and then. I noticed one of our own had been noticeably bothered. I was not sure at first if he was just having a minor problem, so I started to dig into his medical condition. When it turned out fine, I looked at a different angle. But my suspicions about his uncalled actions were somehow telling me something, but not in a clear way. It turned out that he was sending me a silent signal was something was going on with him and that he needed my attention. It turned out that our man was threatened to leak the schedule in exchange for his family being saved. I was a little too late to receive his message, but I am still grateful he was honest enough to give me hints that something was going on.”
