Chapter 155: Chapter 155
"Are you safe in here?" Brianna asked Sam, looking around. "Do you mind if I leave a few men of my team to assist you?"
Sam stared at Brianna. It was as if she was checking any hidden message on what Brianna had just said. Brianna saw the hesitation in Sam's mien, so she made herself clear. She wasn't thinking about playing dirty games.
"You can look at it this way. They will be here to assist you if you remain to be as what you tell us of who you are, but if you turn sides or if it turns out that this is all just another trap, they will be the one to seize you. May I remind you, I have been played almost all my life after my parents' untimely death. I can't help being cautious after all I have been through. If you are confident we are on the same boat, I guess you don't have to worry about anything. You should feel more protected because they will put their lives to keep you safe," Brianna did not avoid Sam's eyes as she stated her lengthy piece.
"I see," Sam shortly answered. "I will hold you to that. If they are people you trust, then I don't mind. But you cannot blame me for having doubts as well. It's not easy living like a ghost and yet being haunted, not the one haunting. How ironic, don't you agree?"
Sam chuckled softly at the irony of her situation.
Jack reported to Brianna that according to their digging about Sam's activities over the years, physical movement, and even on the web, she had never contacted anyone suspicious. They saw some public posts where she would leave comments about her disagreements with certain government issues, but they were similar with other netizens. Expressing freedom of speech, but her words are not so sharp to attract attention.
This made Brianna realize that Sam was no different from her when it came to freedom.
"What would make you feel comfortable?" Brianna asked Sam.
"You," Sam replied swiftly. "You are among the reasons I kept myself safe, untraced, and unfound by the enemies. I was hoping you would not let your parents' death be as is and find justice to be served. And I want to assist in ways I am possible. I can't be with you side by side on the field, but I would love to have eyes and ears on everything. You can do the same on me to prove my loyalty is with you and only with you."
"Okay, you can choose. Do you wanna stay in your place, or are you willing to move where I decide to bring you?" Brianna asked.
"I am more comfortable here. I guess I better be where I am more efficient to move around," Sam chuckled.
"Okay then, I will send men to install additional security programs first thing in the morning, and they will also connect you to our meetings virtually. You can also join the discussions if you have anything to say or ideas to suggest," Brianna stood up from her seat. "We will leave, for now, call me if you need anything, okay?"
"Thank you. Thank you for staying alive all these years. Now I am relieved to realize that my instincts had led me well," Sam's face showed a serene smile. It seemed to wipe the wariness in her aura despite the fact that the battle was still to be won to celebrate.
Brianna did not say anything in return. She just nodded her head and signaled Lucien to leave.
"Thank you for your help and time, Sam," Lucien curtly nodded his head as he walked after Anna out of the house.
Unlike when they got in stealthily, this time, they were leisurely walking out of the house through the front door. And as soon as they got out, Brianna started to give orders.
"Blake, leave a few men behind to assist Sam. You should know what to do."
Blake replied snappily. He knew what Boss B wanted to be done. They need to monitor every in and out of everything and every activity in and around the vicinity. Blake was aware Big B was not yet a hundred percent trusting the witness. It was for security, double security, that she has assigned for her most reliable men to keep an eye on Sam.
"Jack, check everything about Terrence Clayton. I need to make sure he is not someone else being pinned on something he did not do. He deserves to be taken down because of so many evil things he has done over the years, including all he is still doing these days, but I need to know if he is the one behind my family's tragedy," Brianna firmly instructed. "I don't want to chase a wild goose again and let the real target play around freely."
Lucien, who was right beside Anna as they walked out of the yard, offered suggestions.
"Just leave one of your men to lead the team. I will ask Enzo to leave as many men needed behind and work under your man's supervision," Lucien said.
Everyone involved was listening, so they were just waiting for what the lady would say in response. They all had no problems working with each other. The men working for the Michaelsons respects Brianna and her team. While Brianna's team is grateful to the Michaelsons for rescuing their Boss B when they couldn't. Ever since their leaders agreed to be allies, each leaders' subordinates shook hands and pledged loyalty to each other.
"Do what you think is necessary, as long as the results are the same, the procedure won't be much of a matter to me," Anna replied. "I need to know the whereabouts of this man, Jack. Send me his itinerary for twenty-four hours, including last night."
"Copy that, B!" Jack replied.
"Everyone else can have a rest," Anna commanded.
Just as she commanded, the men assigned to do their respective tasks went to do what they had to do, while the rest were sent back and told to rest until further notice.
The two walked back to the car they used to get here with Lucien on the driver's side door. He was going to drive on their way back. He was worried she might really drop him off out of nowhere if he annoys her, playfully or intentionally. He cannot resist doing such things, knowing only he can be bold enough to tease her. But what he heard from her instructing Jack about Terrence Clayton's schedules was a slight warning that tells Lucien Anna was about to do something within the time she mentioned. He was not going to let her move on her own, whether she liked it or not.
"What is your next plan?" Lucien asked casually.
"I will keep an eye on this man until Jack confirms what is needed to be confirmed. Then I will take the shot as soon as I can. I have to know my enemy, so I need time before I pull the trigger if I can't strangle him with my bare hands," Anna replied casually.
"Do you believe everything Sam said earlier?"
"I do believe her. But I cannot be biased to take her side alone without checking the other party. The person involved doesn't need to defend himself, his actions, his deeds, and evidence will speak for him, and I will get the justice my parents' deserved," Anna leaned her head back and closed her eyes.
"Can you think of any reasons why she would lie to you, if ever?"
"She might be seeking personal revenge, but since she cannot do it herself, she might be using me to do the work she couldn't. There are many possible reasons, and as much as I hate to think about them, a part of me wants to believe she is who she claims she is," Anna sighed.
Lucien nodded his head as he agreed with Anna's thoughts. Unless proven, Sam's words will remain as her personal opinion.
