Chapter 109: Chapter 109
"Timer starts... now!" Chad Yates' voice was the only one heard over their audio.
"Go! Go!" Brianna ordered with urgency.
She decided to take the front entrance into the building. She had Tatum with her, she was planning to create a diversion so her men could get to where they know the hostages were being held. And when there is anyone bold enough to invade the place through the front door, the other party would usually be caught off-guarded and her team would be able to move quickly and easily.
As expected, the people assumed to be guarding the main entrance were taken by surprise and easily subdued. But one was able to run. Brianna knew he was going to alert his comrades about their unexpected guests. But she did not let him go too far, Brianna shoot him in the middle of his nape. He fell down kneeling then dropped on his tummy to the ground.
Tatum saw someone trying to aim at Anna while she was shooting the other guy so he stood with his back to Anna and made the shot the other guy but not before the guy could fire a shot. Only its bullet was met by Tatum's and he made a quick shot after it to hit the other guy on his forehead. They were now back to back as many started to follow the sound of shooting at the main entrance area and gathered to stop whoever wanted to invade their lair. Brianna's team, along with Tatum had suppressors on their weapons but the other party did not. Their response to Brianna and Tatum's shooting created gunshots that were heard all over the place. It was quiet, after all.
"I missed this!" Tatum could not keep smiling even in the midst of war.
"I don't know if your crazy or just plainly suicidal," Brianna murmured back. But Tatum just smiled wider. He cannot avoid being thought the way she does, but it's the rush in the field of mission that makes his adrenaline go crazy.
The two moved to pursue their way in. Shooting anyone who would pop out of nowhere and try to stop them. The ground floor of the building was like a wide receiving area, wall to wall, and a spiral stair was in the middle. Elevator was behind the stairs.
"Guys, this place is too quiet. Something is weird," she murmured as she walked her way to the stairs. Checking the upper floor for anyone.
"Beckett, do you see anything?" Brianna asked. She was even more alert feeling something was not right.
The building they were about to invade has five-story floors with an open rooftop serving as its helipad. The whole place looked like a vacation hotel in the mountain. It looked so fancy although it seemed too difficult to get there.
The whole building structure seemed to have the whole area for whoever owned it.
"From my spot. Negative, Boss!" Max Beckett replied. He tried to check every direction accessible to him from his position but he could not see anything or anyone moving in the whole building. Brianna and Tatum looked at each other. They were both having the same thoughts about waiting downstairs. They took posts standing on each pillar where they could get a clear view of anyone going up or down the stairs, while also making sure no one is behind them.
"Boss, we got the hostages! We are taking them out of the building," Blake Gordon reported with a stern voice, yet happiness was audible in it.
"Good! We will be right behind you. You take them out of there safely," Brianna ordered. Her suspicions getting stronger. The enemy seemed to have loosened their guard on the hostages. That is not common, nor does it make any sense. "Everyone, be careful, do not let your guard down. I don't think it's as easy as how things are going on," Brianna whispered on her mic.
Just as she was about to look up the stairs again after looking around her surroundings, something flying caught her sight. Without even thinking, she shot as it and it blew in the air. Creating a deafening sound. It was a high explosive grenade. Had it landed closer to her or Tatum's spot, they would have died if not fatally wounded. But as they were behind a pillar and the grenade blew in the mid-air, the shrapnels landed everywhere but nothing hit the two.
Lucien and Leandro who was nervously watching before the widescreen monitor jumped up when they heard the loud sound of an explosion.
"Anna!!!! Oh my god!!! What did just happen?" Lucien screamed as he pulled the headset out of him. He turned to look at his grandpa. "Grandpa?"
Their vision was from Tatum's camera but as he was looking in a different direction when Brianna saw that thing flying in the air from upstairs and fired a shot on it right away, the camera did not capture whatever happened. They only heard the loud horrifying sound of the explosion.
"Calm down, wait. Let's ask Eliott," Leandro did not panic. He saw his grandson already in such a state, joining Lucien will not give any clear mind on how to deal with the situation.
"Enzo, prepare our men! Deploy as soon as possible," Leandro gave his orders to his assistant as fast as a lighting speed.
"Grandpa, I am going with them. You cannot stop me, I cannot wait here with so much worry, I might die not by a bullet but in heartache," Lucien's resolute melted as he pleaded. The grandpa could not be decisive and turn his grandson down. He knew Lucien will never be calmed down unless he is sure Anna was taken home safely. Leandro Michaelson was worried not only about Lucien's safety. He was also afraid of how his son and daughter-in-law would
react if they found out their only son went into a war zone without their permission. They have not known about Lucien's every episode being endangered as per Lucien's request so his beloved parents would never have to worry about him and hate the old Michaelson in the process. Now, Leandro Michaelson was not sure how to handle his situation.
Thinking Lucien is the most urgent one to deal with, he gave orders again.
"You are going with them in many conditions, young man!" Leandro stated firmly.
"I am willing to do everything you will tell me to, just please, please...?" Lucien replied eagerly.
"You are not to move on your own. You are to follow immediate orders. I know you are going there to get Anna back safe and alive, but the people going with you has you as their first priority. You will take their lead, if they say it's safe, you move, if not, you will wait. Is that clear?!" Leandro spoke with stern and clarity as they walk to the armory where they will have Lucien geared up.
"Yes, clear!" Lucien replied firmly as he started to put on his bulletproof vest.
All this while, Tatum and Anna were still a bit dizzy from that strong blast. They could not move as fast as earlier and soon they saw a lot of armed men surrounding the two of them.
