Chapter 59: Chapter 59

Heartbreak is always very painful because before we had given our whole heart to someone precious. Whether it ends in disappointment, heartache or indeed love that is left but broken by circumstances.

No matter how we are hurt, the longing will still come to fill our minds. The irony is that when we are alone, all we can remember are the wonderful memories that make us miss that person indeed more and torment us with the longing we have.

We’re going to get stopped and have no idea to live our lives the way we used to. It’s like we’re standing in front of a dead end. We can try to get along our lives again, not by pretending to be okay. But deep down we always felt there was a big hole in our hearts that made us feel empty. It’s like we’ve been trapped and have no way out.

The day went back to normal. The morning sunlight comes with its warm orange glow greeting the dewy foliage of the dawn and the fowl that are asleep in its nest. The birds woke up to the greeting of the morning sun, and then they chirped melodiously.

Ruby, who was sitting on a hospital garden bench alone, smiled broadly at the sunrise view. She closed her eyes and breathed a long breath with a big smile adorning her face. She seemed thrilled and excited to welcome her new day at school.

After enjoying the sunrise, Ruby rushes to her room and prepares to go to school. She was so happy when she wore her school uniform that she kept humming. So excited, Ruby even ran a little out the hospital gate. Her smile grew wider and her views glowed as she saw Ricky standing waiting for her in front of the gate with his car.

“ What the hell is this? Are you going to drive me?” asked Ruby with her glowing eyes.

Ricky smiled and walked up to Ruby. With his warm hands he caresses Ruby’s hair gently, making Ruby smile and look at him with a happy and comfortable stare.

“ Yes, I’ll take you to school today. Come on, get in!” said Ricky with his loving smile.

Ricky grabbed Ruby’s hand and took her near the car and opened the car door and allowed Ruby to come in. Ruby looks pleased even when she’s already sitting in the side seat, her eyes don’t stop staring at Ricky. She’s delighted because it’s Ricky’s first time dropping her off after she’s back in school.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Are you that happy?” asked Ricky, who realized Ruby kept staring at him.

“Yes, I’m so happy! It’s been a long time since we went to school together, it makes me remember the past.” Ruby said while smiling thinly and remembering her memories.

“If so, do you want me to drop you off every day? I can hit you, too...” Ricky said and made Ruby look at him with a big smile.

“Really? You’re going to drop me off and pick me up every day? Really?” said an excited Ruby.

“Yes, whatever makes you happy,” Ricky replied.

Ruby got so excited, she was so happy even she started to get impatient and hope time rolled around fast. Ricky smiles as he glances at Ruby’s excited face. Even when they get to the school gates, Ruby gets really excited. And when Ruby got out of the car and was about to enter through the gate, she spun around and ran back to Ricky then hugged him tightly. Ricky smiled and rubbed Ruby’s head gently.

Even when the crowd saw them, Ruby didn’t care and kept hugging Ricky tightly. She was very happy and it was clearly visible from her big smiling face. But Ruby didn’t realize that among the crowd of passers-by and saw it was Alex and Drake. Alex, who had just arrived, looked somber, his legs stopped to step and his eyes wide open but trembled at the sight of Ruby distantly.

Drake who saw it immediately embraced Alex’s shoulder. He smiles at his best friend and tries to get Alex to distract him. By pretending not to see anything Drake tries to persuade Alex to leave, so he doesn’t drown in his heartbreak any longer.

“Come on, I heard there’s new flavored bread in the cafeteria. We’d better go to the cafeteria before the bread runs out.” Drake said while pulling Alex slowly.

Alex knew it was just Drake’s reason to take him away from there. Alex accepted Drake’s invitation and went to the cafeteria. That’s because Alex knows even if he’s hurt or jealous of seeing Ruby hug another man, he still doesn’t have any right to be angry. So, he can’t do anything.

Instead of having to stand there and get sad about seeing Ruby cuddle up with another man, Alex prefers to try to calm down with something else. Maybe eating and talking to Drake can make him feel better. It’s possible that what he’s seen could have been forgotten by keeping himself busy with something else.

But it’s all just Alex’s mind. Things didn’t happen the way he thought, in fact, he just kept thinking about Ruby looking so happy when she hugged Ricky. Even though he's been trying to get himself into talking to Drake and indeed trying to think of something else, he still can’t stop thinking about Ruby and drowning in his jealousy.

Even when the class started, Alex couldn’t focus on the lessons and the teacher’s explanation in front of the class. He just kept glancing at Ruby. He gets even more overcome when he realizes Ruby is becoming so glad that she keeps smiling thinly, even yet her attention is on the teacher.

Alex gets upset because he knows what makes Ruby so happy is Ricky. Seeing how the girl he liked became so happy that another man-made Alex so furious and burned with jealousy that what was right for someone else had taken away him. Even though he doesn’t or may not yet have that right.

Alex really wants to ask Ruby or maybe he just wants to tell her how he feels right now. But Alex restrained himself and tried to be patient until the break. Waiting for a few hours until classes change is upsetting and things keep piling up. His emotions grew as time went on. Alex went to great lengths to contain his emotions.
