Chapter 19: Chapter 19
2019
Pearl’s POV
“You said Sebastian was a psychopath, right? Well, I think Lucas is a real mad man” Aurora’s words came back to me as I waited in the car for Lucas. He had successfully ruined his welcome back party. He’d dragged me out of the event hall making me wonder how he managed to remember me, after all, that scene he’d caused.
He’s currently exchanging the limousine for another car that I’m currently sitting in. I think one of his drivers brought the car for him.
“Are you sure you’re in the right state of mind to drive?” I asked him as soon as he got into the car with the key. He ignored my question and started driving. I stole a few glances at his swollen face and busted lips, he didn’t act like someone who just got punched. He was supposed to be angry but he looks indifferent about the whole fighting thing.
“Why do you call your mother by her name?” I asked.
He ignored me again.
“Lucas?” I called out, touching his arm.
He turned to face me, “What?” He asked.
“I asked you a question,”
“I didn’t hear you. What do you want?” He asked. My mouth almost dropped open at how he feigned ignorance. I’m hundred percent sure that he heard me.
“Nothing. Don’t bother,” I replied, annoyed at his childish act.
After a few seconds of silence, he suddenly spoke up, “She’s not my mother,” before I could ask anything else, “Don’t ask me any question again tonight,”
He dropped me off at home and zoomed off almost immediately. With the possibility of getting thrown out of the house tonight, yet, I walked in with courage.
“Why were you at the party? Dressed like you made plans to go in the arms of another man when you were supposed to go with Sebastian”
Immediately I stepped into my house, both of my parents were waiting and my dad growled as soon as he saw me.
“It just happened okay, daddy. I didn’t mean to and I never intended to go there with him. It just happened” It was a half-truth sentence.
“You lied to us Pearl, you told us you were stuck in traffic and made us choose your sister to go instead of you. You made us look dumb in front of Uncle Thomas and his son. You dragged my reputation in the mud by going to that party with another man, Pearl”
Even though I think dad was making too much of a big deal over the whole issue, I didn’t ask him to replace me with my sister.
“Stop making an issue out of nothing. It’s not a big deal. It just happened like that and there was nothing I could do to stop it” I screamed back at my dad.
“There was nothing you could do right? You planned everything, didn’t you? That was why you asked me if your sister would look good in a pink dress. You wanted to make her go to the party while you go with the other man” My mom added.
“No! It was never that. I didn’t plan it to go that way. I only intended to make her go with me to the party, not let her go by herself. I was so scared of the possibility of something bad happening to her. You both won’t understand how relieved I felt when I saw her doing fine” she explained.
“You got involved with a guy who disappeared for years and only to come back to be seen with my daughter for the first time in public. He could have hurt you. You know what, you’re grounded” What!
I swear I laughed.
“Excuse me, dad! I’m 24 and there’s no way on earth that you’ll ground me. I’m only staying in this house because of Aurora. I’ll move out, trust me, I’ll move out of your house and damn your stupid rules”
“All because you’re involved with a big shot, underground mafia’s son doesn’t mean you’re now on top of the world, child”
I stormed out of the room almost hitting Aurora as I walked away angrily. I got into my room and removed almost everything I’d put on. I picked up my phone and angrily sent a message to Luke.
*If I end up homeless, I swear that I’ll hunt you down till I deliver your body to the den of lions* With lots of knives and swords emoji. I threw my clothes into the laundry basket and lay on the bed, half-naked.
My sister walked into the room without knocking.
“Go away,” I told her.
“I never knew his father was in the mafia until dad mentioned it tonight,” She said. She took a seat beside me.
“You didn’t even know anything about him,” I told her truthfully.
“Well, I do. I heard about his disappearance from Lyla. He’s hot though and he looks like a lost puppy” I laughed.
“Seriously, what happened to your neck? Did Sebastian hurt you? Or did he give you those love bites?” I asked her again. I asked her about it immediately after I saw her at the party.
“No Sebastian didn’t hurt me. I wore a tight choker and before I knew it, it left marks” I cocked my eyebrow not believing what she was saying.
“You wore a choker, really sis? You want me to believe that. I know you more than anyone Aurora. You don’t like things like that” I stated. “Don’t lie to me, Aurora. If he did anything to hurt you, I’ll hunt him down and kill him”
“I’m fine Pearl, I wore a choker because I wanted to look good for the party. It’s in vogue, so I thought why not give it a try. Moreover, you can’t kill him, he’s your soon to be husband, right?” She asked.
“I don’t think that’ll be possible anymore, Aurora. I don’t want to get married. I don’t even want to live under this roof anymore. We’re supposed to be staying on our own already. I’m here because of you Aurora. I know they wouldn’t let you go due to your health issues and I can’t even imagine how lonely you’ll be if I leave. I want to go Aurora but I can’t” I confessed.
“The earlier you people realize that I’m fine, the faster y’all are going to move on with your lives. If you want to go sister, go! You’re a little birdie, you’re not supposed to be caged. You have a job, and you even have your savings, so do your thing girl”
“What about you?” I asked. “What do you want for yourself?”
“I’ll be fine. Sometimes….” My door was suddenly opened by my dad. I anticipated his naggings again but this time, he didn’t even spare me a glance, he was focused on Aurora with worry etched on his face.
“Aurora, Uncle Thomas requested for your hand in marriage to his grandson”
“What did you say to that, dad?”
“I didn’t have a choice princess, I agreed”
