Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Pearl's POV

Did I forget to mention that I slapped my boss after he asked me to sleep with him? Actually, I did and I don’t regret it. The next morning at work, I was expecting a sack letter or an appeal for me to submit my resignation letter from the HR department.

“Good morning. Pearl,” Rose smiled at me as I got to the reception. “You look amazing today, I love your dress” She complimented and I blushed.

“Thank you, it’s just a simple outfit,” To be sincere, it wasn’t a simple outfit like I’d mentioned.

I was putting on a black bodycon dress with a red blazer. I adorned the outfit with some flashy

Tiffany and co earrings and red heels. I wanted to look my best as I finally leave Luke’s company successfully.

“You look amazing as well,” I complimented,

“What? Don’t try to scam me, girl. I look like this always,” We both smiled.

“Let’s have lunch together today,” she suggested and I nodded.

“Cool, let’s hope I last longer than that period today,”

“What do you mean?” She asked, paying attention to her laptop.

“I’ll tell you at lunch,” Rose lifted her head to look at me before she raised her eyebrow and smiled.

I walked away from the reception to my office with a tense posture. I was waiting, waiting for a sack letter and not a court letter. I was tapping my feet against the floor aggressively. I know Luke’s crazy and he can go to any extent to prove his level of madness but Christ Jesus, please don’t let it be that serious.

My door suddenly opened wide, revealing Luke Anderson in yet another designer's black suit that fitted his body so well you would think he was born with it. He crossed his legs as he leaned against the door frame. I quickly stood up.

“Good morning, Mr. Anderson,” I greeted, at least I should be polite one last time before I leave this hell-hole. A part of me was happy and another part was worried about what he’ll do.

I bit my lower lip as he continued watching me without saying a word.

“Uhm, this is why I like you, Pearl,”

“What?” I asked, confused.

“You’ll be attending a party with me tomorrow night,” He announced, walking closer to me. He sat on my desk, directly opposite me, and raised his hand. I shifted back and surprisingly, he slid his other hand through my waist and pulled me closer to him. He pulled out my lower lips from between my lips, drawing blood.

I winced.

“You don’t have to come to work tomorrow, you’re free to use all day for your shopping but make sure you get to my apartment by six in the evening. It’s non-negotiable,” He rubbed his thumb against my bleeding lip. “If you think I’ll be letting you go because you hit me, think twice, Sil, and try harder,”

He dropped a paper and a black card on my table before he began walking towards the door.

“What do you want from me?” I asked angrily.

“Sil, you know me far better than anyone that when I want something, I must always have it. My offer still stands, by the way, I’m only yours,” He smirked and left the room.

I dropped to the floor as every hope of leaving got dashed. I cried out as I hit the chair angrily. Why am I doing this? Why did I ever try to get a job and got trapped in the hands of a demon? Why didn’t I do proper research before coming here? I was only ecstatic about finally getting a job and I didn’t bother to do a background check.

After wallowing in my regret and self-blame acts for hours, it was finally time for lunch and I had to go just because I’d promised Rose I would join her for lunch. The office served lunch to its workers and Rose had already sent me a text to meet her at the office cafeteria.

“Hey,” I touched her shoulder from behind. She was busy talking to someone.

“You’re here,” She said excitedly.

“Yes,” I groaned.

“What’s wrong? You’re not excited. If it’s about having lunch here, we can go somewhere else,”

“No, it’s something else. This place is good,” I told her and she pouts, making me laugh.

“Will you introduce us?” A guy asked from behind her and Rose hit her forehead with her palm.

“Bad manners. Martins, this is Pearl, she works with Voldemort,” I laughed softly. “Pearl, this is Martins, he works at the human resources department,”

“Cool, nice to meet you,”

“Same here,” We exchanged a handshake.

Martins looks like a total flower boy. Boys with a face like that belong to the entertainment world, not offices especially one belonging to a demon. He looks so innocent you would hardly believe he took PE classes in school. After getting our lunch, the three of us proceed to an empty table and sat down.

“Tell me, Pearl, what’s a rich girl like you doing here?”

Martins suddenly asked.

“I’m no rich girl,” I replied, smiling.

Rose's hand flew to her chest and she grinned. “I heard rich people are actually the modest one and now I have it confirmed,”

I was confused. “I don’t understand you guys,”

“One, you’re wearing jewelry that’ll probably pay for my salary for a year, and should we talk about the Prada blazer you’re putting on or the DG heels that probably cost a tooth, and two, your surname is Augustus, baby” Rose analyzed.

I couldn’t believe my ears. I knew my dressing was going to call for attention but still, I didn’t have any other thing to wear, these were the least expensive things that I own.

“I didn’t know anyone would notice,” martins snorted.

“People notice a lot of things and they’ve been talking about you since you started working. A fucking heiress working as a PA is a story that calls for attention,”

“I’m not as rich as you think,”

“Fine, we believe you, ma’am,” Martins said with a bow.

Soon, the clicking of heels against the floor was heard and when I turned, Charlotte and two other girls walk into the cafeteria.

“They think they run this place,” Rose said with a frown.

“Charlotte thinks being close to Luke is a visa to a good life,”

“And she’s proud about it, moreover, this isn’t high school” I completed.

“How’s life with them?” Rose asked with an unbelievable serious look on her face.

“It’s—every fucking bad word you can find in the dictionary,” I told them with a blanched expression.

“I guess as much. Keep coping, one of them might trip and break their neck soon,” Rose said.

“I hope it’s Charlotte,”

“I hope it's Luke,” I and Martins said at the same time and the three of us started laughing gaining the attention of everyone.

After lunch, I headed back to my office and looked forward to another time with the two of them. I think Lunch will be my favorite time of the day. I picked up the paper containing the address and the black card he left on my table and wished I could squeeze the life out of it and threw them at that handsome face of his.
