Chapter 17: Chapter 17

-16-Caring wife.

"Nurturing is not complex. it enables you to have empathy for others and to live a life based on devotion, love, and compassion for the people around you. It can be tempting to fall into a life of selfishness and to focus only on your own goals, but your days will be far more rewarding if you think about what the people in your life are thinking and feeling. Being caring means providing a listening ear, noticing when someone needs help, and helping your community without asking for a reward. So be caring.

Also,

I wish you have that someone who will take care of you with everything they could offer."[Author]

.....

"My heart aches every time I see you in pain." [Riley]

....

Now here they were, perched on a cold November evening at what felt like a certain end, in a state of suspension, as the seconds flew.

When Riley focussed onto him again there he was, hooked and wired, legs in weighted traction, wearing a neck brace. He was so pale That she could see a network of veins under his face. He looked as if he’d just washed up on a limpid tide after the storm, having been a shipwrecked party to some unspeakable acts. His cheeks and forehead were pimpled with the buckshot of the shattered windshield. He struggled to raise his head. And Riley couldn’t look away.

"Ah," he said with difficulty, then fell back to his morphine pillow.

His eyelids fluttered shut while She stood awkwardly, watching him sink beneath the surface as if bearing witness to a drowning.

The silence around them was interrupted by the ringing of her cellphone. It was her mother.

"Hello, Mom," Riley answered the phone, her eyebrows softened and her voice was softer than usual.

Milly: How's he now Ril-boo?

Riley: Thankfully, He just has regained his consciousness like two minutes ago.....

Milly: That's great news Ril-boo. Is he speaking yet?

Riley: "No, Not yet Mom.

Milly: Don't worry, he will be fine. by the way, I was thinking of cooking porridge for him before coming. Is it possible if you can inquire about what he can eat?

Riley: "Ah! No Mom. You don't have to do that. I will take care of it.

Milly: But Riley, He saved you. I want to thank him.

Riley: No, Mom Please let me do that for him. I want to cook for him.

Milly: "But, Riley.

Riley: Mom Please.

Milly sighed on the other end and said "Okay. Can I visit him?"

"No. Mom, I think visiting hours are over. You can come over tomorrow.

"Okay. Take care, Riley. And do ask me if you need any kind of help."

"Yeah. Okay, I will mom."

Putting her phone aside, she sighed to herself. Her mother wanted to cook porridge for Christian, Despite her disappointment in them. She was really lucky. But it would be wrong to make her mama cook for Christian. Since it was her duty as a wife.

Riley looked down and noticed how Christian's brows were furrowed together.

She didn't know how to comfort him, feeling that at this moment any words she could provide would be useless. His wound we're still horrible and he had experienced that kind of pain because of her.

She stood up and hugged him carefully as he stayed atop the bed.

His head was leaning against her chest, his nose was inhaling her breath, and her warmth was being transmitted onto his bruised cheeks.

All of a sudden, the sound of her heartbeat came into his ears. it was as if all the blood he lost has been pumping into the region near his heart. Beneath her touch, his heart was beating faster than usual.

"I can’t make this less painful for you Mindy, I'm sorry.”

"Don't worry, Riley. it's no longer painful now." Christian said.

Riley was slightly relieved and only then did she noticed their current position seemed to be a little inappropriate.

She looked up at him with a sincere expression and hurriedly stood up wiping the remaining tear tracks on her face, a wave of emotions came from her heart.

Her face had a faint look of sadness on it, which combined with her scattered hair, made one unable to help but feel pity.

Christian only felt a jolt in his heart, as if something had been touched.

The nostalgic atmosphere was broken by Doctor's arrival.

The doctor and nurse had just visited to run some basic tests on him.

"Hello, Dr."

"Hello, We need to run some basic tests on him. So, You will have to stay in the waiting area, Miss Riley."

"Okay, Dr. I was wondering if he can have some porridge?"

"Yeah sure. But do make sure to avoid excess sodium or high sugars. He can have some porridge in the nighttime."

"Okay, Doctor. Thank you."

"You are welcome," Dr said.

Since blood tests were commonly part of routine preventive care. Riley didn't bother the doctor at all.

Only after drawing some of his, blood and conducting some examination. Doctors will determine Christian's condition more properly. And maybe it will make her feel less regretful.

"Mindy. Rest well in the hospital and don't worry about anything. I'm going to prepare your porridge." Her eyes were misty with tears as she told him.

Christian stared at her, The depth of her soul was too deep for him to comprehend. Letting out a deep sigh, He nodded meekly.

His eyes followed Riley's every movement till she left the navy double doors. The moment the door was closed His eyes turned cold instantly.

In a matter of seconds, he demanded a phone from the Nurse and instructing them to vacate his room.

The blue-eyed Doctor glared at him, However seeing his condition he handed Christian his phone.

"Name?" Christian asked.

"Dr. Jasper." Doctor answered

While Christian furrowed his eyebrows. He wasn't asking for his name. Stupid Doctor.

"I was asking about the hospital's name? Doctor" Christian said through gritted teeth.

"Oh City hospital," Dr said embarrassingly.

"Mr. Mendicant we need to perform some tests on you, to inquire about your condition. So I hope you can cooperate."

Christian snorted,

"Just let me call first. I will cooperate with you after this."

Jasper hasn't seen a patient that weird in his life. 'How can he be so rude to someone who saved his life?' But he didn't have the time to teach him a lesson, So he decided to leave.

The moment Doctor left, Christian sighed and Called his stupid assistant. Here he was in hospital but there was no news of her.

"Hello." Cynthia almost shouted the word, because she was in the bathroom.

"Where the fuck are you." He shouted with a hoarse voice.

"Boss." Didn't he say not to contact him for two days? Why was he calling now and that too with the other phone? She didn't get the time to voice out her thoughts when Her boss's voice rang out in her ears again.

"You know the place where Emma was admitted last year, Do u remember that hospital?" Christian questioned his secretary Cynthia.

"Yes sir. I remember. What about it?" Cynthia inquired feeling confused. What happened to her boss again. Why does he suddenly remember the hospital?

"I had an accident," Christian answered nonchalantly.

"What... You...Accident....Si...Sir... Are you alright Sir?" Cynthia's reaction Surprised Christian 'was she that stupid. Again why Did he even hired her? '

'Oh. yeah, it was only because he wanted to make things simpler for him. She was the only one who didn't make a disgusting face when he was interviewing her. And even the outfit she was wearing was quite funny when he met her in his office room. it was a coral blazer and baggy pants with a white blouse. Even her words were quite funny When she was nervous. Christian was impressed by her funny personality and even her transformation has been amazing since the day he hired her. Beyond that even her work ethics were Strong.

"Hello. Sir are you there?" Cynthia's voice brought him back from his train of thoughts.

"Yes. I am fine. I want you here in twenty minutes." He Ordered and ended the call.

While Cynthia was shocked. Is he stupid? There was no way in hell to reach there in twenty minutes. it will almost take a minimum of one hour. Her boss must be crazy.
