I went in search of Jeffrey's friends, no matter what they were the ones that will tell me what Jeffery loves most and I could get few ideas from them on what to get for him.

I met D’mally first by the lobby and I blocked his path. “D’mally, I need your help,” I remember in the past, D’mally was one of the people I play with and he was more close to Jeffery after me, he must know what Jeffery will need.

“in what?” He must be surprised by the way I came up to him.

“Can you tell me what Jeffery loves the most in this world?” I looked at him expectantly as I waited for his reply.

“It is you.” He finally said after contemplating for a long time and I look at him like he was crazy, but remembered I didn’t put the question right.

“I mean material things. It is his birthday today and I am struggling with what to get for him.” I explained it much better and he seems to now have a clue.

“Ah… Jeffery doesn’t like material things, since he has almost everything he wants.” He told me and this was true.

Jeffery was wealthy and he must not be lacking anything, I had thought of getting him a shoe or a shirt, but he seems to have a lot and that didn’t go well with me either. I run my hands through my hair, this is difficult, if it was Russell's birthday I would have to know what to get him at my second guess.

“But I have a solution,” D’mally said and I looked up at him curiously. “He would appreciate a meal specially prepared by you.”

“Aish!” my jaw drooped and I looked up at D’mally with a paused lips. “That would be difficult.” I lean on the wall and saw D’mally curious eyes staring down at me. “I can’t cook.” I spelt it out for him, all these while it has been my father that always prepare meals at home.

“Really?” D’mally lifts the corner of his brow.

“This is hopeless! I would just have to hang out with him today, thank you.” I turned and walked away, counting my step as I left.

I went back to class and buried my face on my desk as my two friends came over. “Cindy, you didn’t eat lunch today why?” Kelly asked me with concern and I look at her with my face still on the desk.

“I want to get very hungry today,” I muttered and her eyebrow raised slowly as she stares at me in curiosity. “He wants that and I feel bad that it is the only thing I could do for him today.” Before I was angry that I had to go hungry just because he asked me to, but now it was so annoying that this was the only thing my brain could do for him even when it was his birthday, how would I call myself his girlfriend when I can do only this much and not figure out what my boyfriend likes and I even forgot about his birthday.

“What are you saying?” Janet and Kelly asked me at the same time and I sat up, facing the both of them.

“I am having a date with Jeffery and it is also his birthday today.” I spat all the words out, but they were both smiling like a joker.

“Then you should be happy about it,” Janet said and Kelly nods to it.

“He reminded me of his birthday,” I said softly and braced myself for their outburst.

“What! You forgot your boyfriend’s birthday!” They both said at a time and I knew this was how it will all go down.

“And the worst of it all is that I don’t know what to get as a birthday present for him.” I placed my head back on the desk.

“I am surprised you don’t know what your childhood friend and boyfriend likes, I suggest you cook him a meal,” Kelly said and Janet looked at Kelly with a raised brow.

“Kelly, have you forgotten that Cindy can’t cook.” Janet reminded her and Kelly sighed.

“I am a fool anyway,” I mumbled as I hit my head lightly on the desk. “There must be something he likes when he was little… remember Cindy…think Cindy.” I was mumbling to myself, trying to remember what he loves as a kid.

I had said he threw our memories away, but it seems I was the one who forgot about all of it, I was the one who threw that away. I shut my eyes to think back to one thing we did as kids on his birthday, one thing he loves and smiled for and then the memories came rushing in like a sound of music.

I raised my head with a triumphant smile. “I got it!” I looked at my two friends who had jerked back because of my sudden movement.

They were asking me about it, but I focus my eyes on Jeffery and muttered. “You are trapped today Jeffery since you will receive a lovely present from me.” I took out my phone and started browsing through it in happy glee.
