Chapter 38: Chapter 38

I opened my eyes and it was already dark, I was happy that I survived the fall, but my body ache and hurts, I felt like I was bleeding all over, the hole was dark and cold and I curled myself up and hugged my knees as warm tears rolled down my cheek.

I looked up and it was already dark, It was noon when we set out for the race and I wonder what time it was now, I had left my phone at the camp and had no way to communicate with the others.

“Help me, anybody out there, help please.” I have lost all my strength and I was sure my voice hasn’t gone beyond this hole, who would possibly hear me or come to my rescue, it was late and the only thing around here may be a wild animal.

I looked around but I couldn’t see anything, I was too scared, my imaginations run wide, I wonder if this was a wild animal’s home if this was where I would die and no one would find me.

I have not seen this hole and if they come to find me, will anyone imagine I am in her, the only person who will know was Suzy, but she wants me gone, so she will never tell them I was in here.

I could hear noise coming closer, I was terrified that it might be a wide animal, so I closed my eyes to say a final goodbye, praying that my father’s new lover will bear a new child for him and he would shower his love on her just like he had done to me.

I will have to join my late mother and be happy with her, tears rolled down my cheek, my dad had set me up to meet the woman he loves after my trip, but now I won’t be able to see her.

“Cindy!” I heard a familiar voice and open up my eyes. “Cindy! Are you out there?” The voice called out again and I was shocked for a moment and couldn’t respond.

“Jeffery..” I muttered. “It’s Jeffery.” Fresh tears fell down my eyes as I tried to get up. “I am here, help me!” I shouted, but my voice came out hoarse.

“Cindy!”

“I am here Jeffery, in a hole, please help me!” I screamed, afraid that he won’t hear me and leave.

“Cindy.” He called out as he approaches the hole and lay close, flashing his touch inside, I began to sob loudly as I saw the light pointing at my face.

“I am here,” I said softly and I was too weak that I sat back in the hole, all my body ache and I was glad that someone has finally found me.

“Hang in there, let me find a rope.” He told me and ran off.

Shortly after, I saw a rope made out of tree straw. “Hold onto it, I will pull you out.” I obediently did as he instructed and as he told me, he pulled me out.

Immediately I got out of the hole, I hugged him tight as tears stream down my eyes. “Jeffery, I was so scared, I thought I would die there and no one will ever see me again.” I continue sobbing.

He wrapped his warm hand around me as his lips moved. “I am here now Cindy, I am right here.” Just those words were so comforting, but I kept on crying, I was more scared that I won’t see him and everyone I loved.

“It is alright, no harm will come to you, I am right here, nothing will ever harm you.” He refrained and held my cheek with his hands and stare right into my eyes.

“Are you hurt anywhere?” He asked and I was speechless, he flashed his touch on me and his eyes dilated. “Cindy you are bleeding, how did this happen?” He asked with a furrowed brow.

“I fell.” I lied, I couldn’t tell him it was Suzy’s doing, I was also being honest here, I had jerked back and happen to fall in. “I slipped and fell.” I fell into his embrace again. “Thank you, thank you for finding me and being here when I needed your help.

“It is okay, let’s go back and get your injuries treated.” He looked down at my legs. “Can you walk?” I was speechless so he squats in my front and pat his shoulder. “Get one, I will give you a piggyback ride.’

He put me on his shoulder and I lean on his back, I was weak to walk and there was no way apart from carrying me, I closed my eyes and let the warmth of his body envelope me, this was better than staying in that cold.

“Am I not heavy?” I asked him when we had gone a distance from the hole, also my tears had been dried up.

“No.” He responded. Jeffery had always given me a piggyback ride when we were little, he had always taken good care of me as a child, but it was different now that I have added some weight.

“Are you sure?” I asked again, he was about to answer when we both slipped a fall. “Ouch!”

He rushed over to my side and helped me sit up. “Are you alright?” He looked over me and help me dust off my short and shoulder.

It hurts, but not like the first time I fell into that hole. “Yes. Let’s rest a bit.” I told him also feeling tired, we were out of the hole and getting close to the camp, I knew since I have seen the map.

“Okay.” He sat next to me and we were both silents for a while before she looks at me and asks. “Why aren’t you asking me for an explanation?”

I saw his eyes staring at me and twinkling in the dark of the night, I wanted an explanation before, but I have already figured it out. “I don’t need it, I already understand.” I averted my gaze but knew he was still staring at me.

“I don’t love Suzy Dee.” He told me, but I didn’t look surprised, instead, I flashed him a smile and look into his eyes.

“I know.” I paused for a while. “I heard you made a bet with Russeli.” I wanted to know if he will deny it or tell me the truth, I hope he told me the truth this time.

“I lost.” He stared at me and I could see a line flashed between his eyebrows. “But, I am never going to let you go.” His words were so serious that I held his gaze. “Stay by my side Cindy, come over to my side, let’s date.”

This word made my heart leap and I beam. “Let’s date Jeffery, I love you, Jeffery,” I said softly with my eyes twinkling.

“I love you, Cindy.” With that he leans over to me and planted a kiss on my lips, as his other hand made its way to the back of my head pulling me closer, I gently close my eyes and let his warm lips assault mind
