Chapter 36: Chapter 36
The football match started, and as always the girls started their bets and taking sides, few were chit-chatting and other's were cheering the players on.
Kelly turned to me when she noticed I was just watching the field absent-minded. "Cindy, are you still choosing Jeffrey's team?"
"Ni," I told her immediately, not even wanting to hear his name mentioned around me.
Janet and Kelly were both surprised, I knew I chose his team last time, but this time I was rooting only for Russeli, if Jeffery loses, other students who admire him will know there is nothing special in him, but his looks.
"I choose Russeli's team this time," I said with a serious face and turn my eyes to watch the match, behind I could hear Suzy telling her friends she bet her life to it that Jeffery will win this time too.
I was seriously watching this match, I saw Russeli's team dribbling the ball to the other post, but Jeffery always defend their post and kicked the ball off.
I could see Jeffery and Russeli's seriousness in this game and they seem to be giving it their best as if theeir lives depended on it.
Russeli's team scored a goal and everyone cheer, I was also among those of them that were happy and I called out his name, he waved at me with a smile and gave me a signal, telling me that the lucky charm was working.
"I heard them making a bet."
I overheard a female student telling her friends and I turn my attention to them, to understand what she was saying.
"Who?" The other students asked her, curiously perhaps.
"Russeli and Jeffery," Daisy told her and I look back at the field, this must be the reason they are putting their whole effort into the game.
"Did you hear what the bet was about?" Sofia asked and I was eavesdropping, also curious about this, well this was something that the two people I am close to was involved in.
"Not clearly, but I overheard them saying whoever loses will let go of her hands and back off, something like that."
"Do you think the two boys love one girl?" Sofia asked and my eyes were dilated, I was in a bit of shock.
All I knew was that Jeffery loves Suzy and Russeli said he loves me, was this bet seriously real and who could the girl be, it must not be me, would it?
"If it is a girl, then it must be Suzy," Daisy added and her friend nod to it as they turn their attention back at the game.
I furrowed my brow as I looked from Jeffery to Russeli, they were both glaring at each other as the match began again.
Were they putting their life in line to win because of me, were they both toying with my heart?
I lost my focus on the game and my heart was engulfed with anger as I watch them both.
Soon Jeffrey's team scored a goal and they blew the whistle for a half time, I watch Suzy walk over to Jeffery and hands him a bottle of water.
He smiled at her and they talked for a few seconds, Suzy's face that was brightened suddenly darkened and she glared my way, I wonder what he had told her.
She smiled back at him and I watched her lips move, saying few words to him, she walked over to her bag and brought out something, she smiled evilly and walked over to Jeffery.
She smiles broadly and hands him the thing in her hands, he ate it and said a few words, perhaps one of appreciation.
She made a fist up for him like she was cheering for him, then the whistle was blown and they returned to the game, Suzy gave me a half-hearted smile and went back to her seat.
I sensed something was up, she was calm now and was smiling like a little evil, I looked back at the field as they began to play.
"What's wrong with him?" A panicked Vera said out loud and I also noticed it.
My eyes widen as I almost got up from my chair. "He is dizzy, is he ill?" I furrowed my brow.
Jeffery seems to energise as the match began, but soon he kept shaking his head like he couldn't see the ball clearly and he misses few shots.
"Something is wrong," Janet told me as Jeffery passed the ball to the other team instead of his team.
"He is not himself." Another student said as Russeli scored a goal and look at Jeffery who ought to defend the ball, but didn't.
I watched Chad walk over to Jeffery and said a few words, then Jeffery shook his head and wipe his eyes with his hands, trying to focus.
I found myself rooting for Jeffery as I keep shouting in my mind that he shoots the ball, I was sad when the final whistle was blown and Russeli was announced the winner.
I should be happy, but I knew it was not a fair game, Jeffery wasn't in his right state of mind and it was no longer counted as a fair game.
"Cindy your good luck charm worked," Russeli told me as he came over to him, everyone was jubilating, but I only forced a smile and congratulated him, but my eyes were on Jeffery who was also staring back at me.
