Chapter 58: Chapter 58

*Third person POV*

She makes her way to the third floor before heading for the consigliere's room. As she reaches the door step, she slowly opens the door and pokes her head into the room not stepping in. Her eyes meet the bed but it's empty. She furrows her brows before entering into the room and shuts the door behind her but she pauses when she sees someone sitting on the chair close to the end of the bed. She didn't need to look closely before knowing that he's a doctor.

She looks around and she can see a drip stand and other hospital equipments in the room while the doctor is documenting something. He hasn't noticed her presence so he's still focused on what he's doing. She moves closer to him and clears her throat to get the doctor's attention. He stops what he's doing and turns his head to look at her. Her eyes grow as she recognizes him as the same doctor who had treated her after she was brought back from Alhaji Bawa.

"Oh...Good morning doctor." She says quickly clutching on to the basket of blankets.

"Good morning miss...Um...I have seen you before, yes, I have treated you before right?"

She slowly nods her head, “Yes you have."

He smiles, “I see you are very much okay now. I'm glad."

She smiles, "Yes, thanks to you."

He shrugs, "I didn't do much..." His eyes travel to the basket in her arms. "You are here for?"

She nods quickly, "Yes yes. I came to um…To change the sheets."

He furrows his brows in confusion. "Change the sheet? l...I thought you are William’s..." He pauses when the sound of footstep approaches. The both of them turn their heads around to see William slowly walking out of the bathroom. His eyes travel to Kemi who's standing close to the doctor and a smile crawls to his lips before he walks over to her.

"You're here." He says with a delightful look on his face as if he's been waiting for her the entire time, which is true because he has indeed hoped she would at least come to see him.

"How are you?" She asks staring at him. She can see his hand hanging in the cast and also a cast around his neck while there's a plaster on his forehead.

A sudden groan from him makes startles her and she sees him place his hand over his injured arm while pouting like a child.

"I'm having pains. They're really... really painful..." He says with a face that looks as if he's going to die in any minute. Harry gives him a look like 'I'm your doctor and I don't know that?'

She becomes more worried and believes his nice acting and so she quickly moves to support him putting the basket on the floor.

"You should sit. Why did you move around when you're still feeling pains?" She asks him with a worried voice.

"There's no one to help me out and my doctor over there..." He points at Harry, like a child reporting his bully to his mother. "-Wouldn't even help me."

Harry shakes his head at him before focusing back to what he's doing. Kemi guides him over to the chair beside the bed. She stares at him neck before turning to the doctor. "Would his neck take long to heal?"

Harry turns to her and he's about to say something before his eyes meet William's, who is mouthing words to him. He stares at William's lips and figures out he's telling him to say 'it would take long to heal' which would be a flat lie because his neck will actually heal in a few days. Harry gives him a look like, 'are you seriously asking a doctor to lie?'

Kemi looks between the both of them in confusion before her eyes rest on Harry's, waiting for answers.

Harry clears his throat, "Well...He um...He would need a while to get better." It's better to lie than to face William's wrath.

William smiles inwardly before feigning a groan again making Kemi turn to him. She examines his neck with concern before reaching down to his hurt arm and then she looks at him but instead of hearing something like," Are you hurting? What should I do to help?" What he hears is...

"You're a man and cannot bear such pain." She shakes her head at him. "I'm disappointed."

William blinks in disbelief as he stares at her. One minute she was showing concern and worry for him and the next, she's scolding him?

"You shouldn't say that to a sick person." He pouts is lips at her.

Harry couldn't help but laugh before he stands up from the chair. "Are you here to look after him?" He asks her.

Kemi turns to him, "Um...I only came to change the sheets."

"What? Only that?" William's face turns into a deep frown and Kemi turns to look at him and could see his annoyed face. She couldn't help it as a slight smile appears on her face. He still looks adorable despite the deep scowl on his face. She moves away from him and takes up the basket to bring out a blanket. She removes the one on the bed before putting the new one. After changing the sheet, she helps him into the bed before sitting beside him.

"Have you had breakfast?" She asks him placing her hands beside him.

"No I haven't." He replies.

"Yes he has. A maid already brought him breakfast." Harry intervenes and William shoots him a hard glare.

Kemi chuckles, she could see that they have a nice doctor-patient relationship and it's adorable because she never expected him to be such a sweet person.

She nods, "I will have to leave soon; I'm helping someone to change the sheets."

William’s expression hardens, "And why would you do that?"

"She needed help, it won't take long. Besides, I have to be with Mrs. Patricia."

He looks away from her with his annoyed expression. "You know I can't just come to see you…" She starts to say. "I really wanted to help her but I also agreed to because l can see you with the opportunity."

His expression softens and he moves his eyes to looks at her. "You...You were worried about me?" He asks as if he needs assurance.

Kemi stares at him without saying anything. Her eyes travel to Harry who keeps staring at them with a confused expression in his face. Of course she came here to see him because she was worried but she doesn't want the doctor to suspect anything or start having wild thoughts so she didn't reply but only stared at the cast around his neck while William keeps staring at her waiting for a reply.

It's like it's the only thing he needed to hear her at the moment. He just wanted to know if she was at least worried about him-No; he needed to hear her say it. It's crazy because it's actually the first he has ever wanted an assurance from anyone but then again, everything with her is a first to him. He's the first time he's behaved so childish in so many years. He has never wanted anyone's attention but here he is, begging for hers. Where 80percent of the girls in Lagos would readily pretend to care and love him because of his money, this one girl leaves him confused. It's as if she could slip out of his hand at the slightest minute and it scares him. He would fall hard, really hard and that... actually scares him.

"I will bring you hot tea." She says as she moves to stand up but he pulls her back.

"Where are you going?"

"To bring you tea?"

He sighs and pulls her back down on the chair. "Just stay here, don't leave."

She stares at him for a while before relaxing on the chair. Harry starts changing casts on his hand and neck before taking out an injection. William stares at him as he flicks the injection and he shifts in his bed while Kemi turns to him.

She grins, "Don't tell me you're scared of injections?"

He gulps, "Of course not...Why...Why would I be scared of that?"

She purses her lips to hold her laughter."Oh really? You look tensed right now." She continues to tease him.

"I'm a man okay? I cannot actually be scared..."The word gets stuck in mouth as he sees Harry approaching him with the injection in his hand.

"Do you have to give um...Do I need an injection doctor?" He asks with the most confident look but his body tells otherwise as he slowly starts to move backwards.

Harry nods, "Yes you do, or don't you want the pain to heal fast?"

"I don't think its necessary you know. I will heal on my own."

"You should heal faster..." Kemi says smiling at him." I want you to heal faster; you can't keep lying on the bed. It doesn't suit you."

William stares at her for a while before sighing. "Fine."

She purses her lips as she smiles while moving away so Harry can get closer to him.

"Be...Be gentle." William says glaring at him.

"I thought you're not scared?" Kemi asks almost laughing.

Harry stares at him with the injection in his hand as if waiting for him to be ready but William glares harder at him.

"Are you doing your job or not? Who's scared of just a needle? Just be quick..." His voice trails off as feels the sharp needle pierces through his skin. "Ahh!" He screams out glaring hard at Harry for not warning him before hand.

Kemi, who couldn't hold it any longer, bursts into laughter "You should see the way you looked...” She says still laughing heartily. "God...It was so funny."

William drags his hand away from Harry's while giving him a 'you're so dead' look. Harry shakes his head and moves over to bring some drugs before he hands it over to Kemi.

"Please make sure he takes them. I assure you he won't if he doesn't get pressured." He says with a smile on his face. Kemi nods as she collects the drugs from him before looking at William. She shakes her head at him. Who knows the consigliere can be such a child? She actually finds it cute.

"Um, yes..I will." She answers the doctor.

Harry nods before moving over to William. He leans down to him and whispers into his ears. "Since when are you scared of injections, you pretender? You better not stress the beauty." He scolds him giving him a knowing look before moving away. William glares hard at him.

Harry turns to Kemi, "But don't worry too much, he won't die if he doesn't take them." He smiles at her before taking up his bad and wrapping his stethoscope around his neck. "Good bye missss..." He emphasizes the 'miss' as a way of asking her to tell him her name.

"Kemi." She quickly says.

"Good bye miss Kemi." He says with a smile and after a last glance at William, he exits the room. And then, Kemi turns to the door with attempt to leave the room.

"You're leaving?" William asks almost in panic.

She turns back to him, "Yes."

He swallows and since he cannot turn his head to look at her fully, he just sighs and lowers his eyes.

"I'm just going to get you tea.”She adds on.

His eyes shoot up and he smiles, "You're coming back then?

She nods, “Of course. You need to take your drugs."

His delightful face turns into a sour one at the mention of drugs. "He didn't say l have to take it now." He pouts.

"The instructions are written on them and it says you need to take them mornings and evenings after meal."

"Can't you get the tea later?"

"You don't want it?"

"Well..." He sighs and licks his lower lips. "I just want you...to stay here."

She pauses for a while before walking over to where he is.

She sits on the chair beside him. "I haven't showered." He says in a low voice.

"Why?"She asks.

"There's no one to help me out." He says with a sad voice like a child who has lost his lollipop.

Her eyes travel to his injured hand, his bandaged head and the cast around his neck before she nods.

"Okay then, I will help you… Sit." She orders. She must have sounded bossy because he stares at her with disbelief.

"You sounded like a mom." He winks at her and she can't help but laugh.

"Oh come on, just sit. I will help you take out your shirt through your injured arm."

She helps him takes off his chest revealing his fine bare chest. ‘Don't look, don't look, don't look, Kemi.’ She chides herself but as usual, the body never listens to the mind because her eyes glue to his abs and she can't seem to look away. She wonders how much he works out; he looks so fit with such a smooth skin. The man is a mountain of rolling muscles, not overly broad but moderate. And then, as if something hits her head, she shakes it abruptly and blinks many times.

"Are you done looking, already?" William asks with a smile on his face. “I could also show you my back. Would you like to touch?”

She blushes and stands up. "I have to go."

"No no no, you can't leave...” He says quickly grabbing her back. "I was only joking."

She nods, "I know. I will... "She sighs. She can't believe she has actually been looking at his body for so long. Wouldn't he think she's a pervert?

He pulls her close to his chest and her eyes grow wide at the sudden closeness. She tries to move away but he holds her tight.

"It's not wrong to stare..." He says looking down at her face."It was actually cute, you can stare longer, don't be shy, I like it." He smiles at her. She didn't look at him but keeps looking away as she feels her face is about to explode from redness.

"What's cute? I wasn't even looking...” She tries to say but the teasing look on his face makes her stop talking. She knows he’s definitely going to use this to tease her for a long time.

"Stop staring." She pouts.

"How do you know I'm staring? You're not even looking at me." He says with the smile not leaving his face.

"Let me go someone might come inside and see us like this." She says in a low voice but he pulls her closer even more causing her to rest her hand on his chest. Her eyes travel to his other hand that has a cast.

"Let them come in, I don't mind."

"Well I do mind. So let me..." She struggles again in vain before sighing. "Let me go or l will hit your hand." She threatens in a serious tone referring to his injured hand.

He opens his mouth in awe, "That would be wickedness Kemi. I'm hurt, you know that. Don’t you care about me?”

"You think I'm playing? If you don't..." She trails off because the next thing she hears is a loud groan from him and her eyes grow wide in confusion.

"What happened?"

He didn't say anything but winces hard and suddenly he slumps on the bed almost preternaturally still. She stands there staring at him in confusion, blinking consistently. She can’t understand what has happened to mean. Did she hit him? Is he hurt? She edge towards him as panic starts creeping into her. Her breath starts to shake as different weird thoughts come rushing down to her head. She knows he couldn't possibly be dead but she fixes her eyes to his chest to make sure he's still breathing.

"Oh Jesus, what have I... William?" She calls out to him but no answer. "William?" She calls again but still no response.

She moves closer leaning over him on the bed and cups his cheeks with her hands. "William, please say something, you’re scaring.”

Suddenly, his hand shoots out and he pulls her against his chest before chuckling loudly. She stares at him and a long sigh of relief comes out of her when she realizes he is only kidding around but then she frowns deeply.

"That wasn't funny. I'm leaving."

He pulls her back, "Hey hey, don't go. You really did hit my injured harm you know. How would I know you would stay back to check when you literally threatened to kill me?”

"I didn't threaten to kill you; I only said I would hit your hand which I wouldn't have."

"Hitting my hand is like killing me, which would hurt too and so I decided to scare you a little.” He smiles.

"Go shower and don't forget to take your drugs."She says before moving away from him.

"You won't give it to me?" he asks.

She walks over to pick up the basket. "You can take it yourself...You...You can manage to shower right?" She asks with concern. She can imagine how hard it would be for him to manage that.

"Do you want to help me with that too?" He asks smirking at her.

She rolls her eyes, "No, I will not." And then she walks out of the room with a smile on her face without anymore word.

William rests on the bed smiling broadly before his phone starts ringing. He reaches for it and glances at the caller before walking over to the window. He looks toward the door before answering.

"Ciao William." The deep masculine voice says from the call end.

"Hello Pablo." He says with a slight grin on his face.

*NOTE: The Italian language would be interpreted into English, in brackets.*

"I received your offer and Lo adoro (I love it)."

William smiles, "I'm glad you do, so do we have a deal?"

"Of course we do. Considerami il tuo compagno di vita (Consider me your life partner.)

William chuckles, "Thank you Pablo. Tu fai la tua parte e io farò la mia.(You just do your part, and I’ll do mine.)"

"Certo, buona giornata.(Of course, have a nice day.)" The voice says.

"Anche tu. (You too.)" The line goes dead and William swallows hard before heaving a sigh. A wide grin slowly appears on to his face and he stares through the window.

"Ina son wannan(I'm loving this.)" He says in his Hausa dialect before smirking widely.
