Chapter 36: Chapter 36
I Will Let You Go For Good!
"Do you mind asking your witches about my sister? I haven't seen her since we came here." Jason looked worried.
"What makes you think they'll give her up even if she's with them?" Jemimah asked.
"Isn't it obvious? They answer to you."
"No they don't!"
"Of course they do!" Sophie cut in. She was still shaking. "It's a good thing this is all over. Do what you must and let's leave this place, sister."
"Let's even pretend I know where this place is, where am I supposed to head to?" Tears rolled down Jemimah's cheek. "I am now a killer. I inspire terror in people's minds. I'm a wanted criminal!"
"That's not who you are." Sophie chided her. "You are an amazing person. The most loveable one I know."
"Do not patronize me!" Jemimah wiped her tears. "I'm cursed. It's best to stay away from me."
"Perhaps you are. But you didn't choose to be this way intentionally, did you?" Sophie walked close to her sister and held her hand. "I am Omafaya, remember? That means I inherited a fair share of the curse as well…"
"Can you just stop wallowing in self-pity and uncertainty!" Jason seemed irritated by their conversation. "This is neither a blessing nor a curse. We've just been exposed to powers the vast majority of the human race doesn't know about."
"Sweetheart, that isn't helping." Jemimah looked at him. "Stop it!"
"Really? How long will it take for you to tell yourself the truth, Jemmy?" He said out loud. "With great power comes great responsibility. Else, there would be dire consequences. Like what's happening right now."
"What do you mean?" Sophie asked.
"We must accept that we are stronger than some and others are stronger than us. But with the power we have, we must take care of those that are dear to us. Unnecessary complaints won't solve anything!"
"Really? You think this is unnecessary?" Jemimah couldn't conceal her shock. "What has come over you?"
"Nothing is wrong with me," Jason replied. "You have your sister to wallow in self pity with, don't you? Where is mine?"
"I don't know!" Jemimah screamed.
"Am I supposed to just accept that and fold my hands?" Jason looked her straight in the eyes. "You've got to find her. If you don't, I'll do whatever it takes to get her back. Consequences be damned! Time is of the essence."
"Calm down, Mr. Sam. We've all been through a lot." Sophie intervened. "Don't you think you are overreacting?"
"Oh! Am I?" Jason replied sarcastically.
"Yes you are!" Jemimah said on top of her lungs. "Don't get me upset with you. This isn't our fault!"
"What if I do?" He dared her. "What the hell are you going to do about it?"
"Don't you think this is getting out of hand?" Sophie spoke to them but they didn't listen.
"We outnumber you. Don't put me to a test." Jemimah warned.
"Do you think I am threatened by that?" Jason asked. "The bride and I are powerful enough to deal with each and every one of you if that's what you want."
"Little wonder why you wasted no time to pull her to yourself." Jemmy's face darkened. "You couldn't wait to make passionate love to her, could you?"
"Just like you couldn't wait to give yourself so cheaply to that monster," Jason replied. "You could have stopped everything the other day, but you chose not to."
"I have a conscience and I used to think the same of you. But maybe I was wrong about you. What's the point in killing a child before it's even born?" Jemimah maintained her gaze. "Why do you think he is deserving of such a fate?"
"Stop the holier-than-thou attitude, alright? The baby wasn't going to be an ordinary one and you knew it. We could have saved the world from so much evil!" There was a stern look on Jason's face. "Well, that's in the past now. Just help me find my sister and I'll go away for good."
"Are you going to leave me all of a sudden?" Tears rolled down Jemimah's cheek.
"Shouldn't I?" Jason replied. "I have always been devoted to you whether or not the odds were in my favor. But I have never messed up this bad. I felt the seed leaving me and going into Ariana. I have just created the bane of the human race!"
"No you haven't!" Jemimah wiped her tears. "And even if you have, you didn't do it in your right senses. I succumbed to the hawk as well. It wasn't intentional. I know who I love."
"You may be correct. But it changes nothing. Olana shall be reborn."
"Not if we convince your bride to have an abortion if it results in a pregnancy."
"She won't agree to that. I'm very sure." Jason held Jemimah's hand. "Olana will take control of her the moment she takes in."
"Let's cross that bridge when we get to it. By the way, you are her groom. If anybody can convince her, then it's you."
"No he isn't hers," Sophie looked at her sister. "He is your groom."
"Can we just be realistic for a moment?" Jemmy asked. "Both of them are the leaders of a secret cult. They've been united by an ancient prophecy for over many centuries."
"Yes, but that's not of their own volition, is it?" Sophie replied. "Look at Ariana over there, she's in love with Roberto. And you, my dear, have fallen for Mr. Sam."
She looked at Jason and smiled. "Mr. Jason Sam loathes himself for making you see him make love to another woman. I saw the jealousy in his eyes when he saw you with another man. He has been committed to you since the day you had an accident. He is definitely not perfect, but if that isn't love, then I don't know what is."
Sophie tapped her sister on the shoulder and continued to talk. "Tell me Jemmy, weren't you hurt when you got to know that he saw you with another man?"
"I think we shouldn't talk about that anymore." Jason turned towards Sophie. "Kindly help me convince her to find my sister."
"I will do my best. But what happens after that?"
"I will, I…" he stuttered.
"You didn't even bother to ask me who I meant when I said I knew who I loved, did you?" Jemimah asked Jason. "Was it because you didn't care or you are rest assured about who the person is?"
He didn't say a word in response. He just stared at her.
"Tell me you don't love me and I swear to whatever is sacred, I will let you go for good!" Jemimah said seriously.
Jason's gaze became more intense. Still he maintained his silence.
